Thanks much for the website. For me full and enough are synonymous- for me if I am satisfied with the food I have eaten. When I take time to plan, and prepare the food that I enjoy and it is an equitable portion, the plate is pretty and the food looks good, then I have enough and I am full.

I have a weight problem because I did not have to wait to be hungry, I ate - in my worse, I had one long meal the whole day. I was often over-fed and consequently not well. Now, I am taking the time to enjoy the flavors, the smells and the textures and I like to chew.

Wow! I bookmarked it to go back and read for detail, but what I read is pretty telling. We are doing our health GOOD! And I KNOW that my hunger (desire to eat) has changed significantly since I started this way of eating.

I had an appointment to go to this morning so I did one of my favorite "grab & go" breakfasts. A peanut butter and banana sandwich. Two slices of whole wheat bread, two tablespoons of peanut butter and one banana. After I ate it I was FULL, I mean really full. There was a time when I would have automatically made TWO sandwiches, because that's the way I ate. I must have felt totally stuffed after eating two of them. I don't remember feeling stuffed, but I know how I felt this morning after one. I can't even fathom eating two! It's almost 12:30 and I'm still not hungry.

I am learning to appreciate then feeling of an empty stomach, I have stuffed my self so much that an full stomach is a trigger to eat more. 75 to 80 percent full is as much as I want.

LOL!!!

I have several types of hunger as well...and I agree being "full" is not a good thing unless it's movie time afterward.

I like being "satisfied" not hungry anymore, and completely happy with the food I just had.

ROTFL

A dictionary of hunger, and a very interesting one at that.

LV, if you typed what came to your mind when you read my first post of the thread, then you answered the question. The idea is to stimulate thought and conversation here.

I REALLY like being slightly overfull. My contentment centers get all happy and it is like a big sigh of relief. But now on ETL I don't do that very often anymore, though some of my lunch salads do make me pretty full. I don't like being stuffed (where you are overly full and then stand up and feel like you are going to pop) that makes me tired and sluggish.

If I eat light I get hungry pretty fast and can make some bad decisions. I try to eat 3 meals a day (plus post workout when necessary).

So Full is slightly over
Enough is slightly less than that, but not enough to make me hungry again in less than an hour.
Hungry has many forms for me. I'm a hungry person!

I have under nourished hungry. This is where my tummy is full but I don't feel like I've gotten the nutrients (like eating a loaf of white break-tummy full but nothing to it and not satisfied).
I have my toxic hungry- which I am still having trouble with even now (tummy growling, tummy pain- can even be doubling over in hungry).
I have headache hungry. I may or may not have felt hungry but not eating has given me a migraine. This can go along with poor food choices (like the white bread).
I have sheer desire hungry- everyone else is eating ice cream now i am hungry for ice cream.
I have ETL "true hunger" which I am still working on.
I have time of the day hungry- it's 11 time for lunch.
Then I have regular overly hungry (mentioned by others!) where bad decisions can be made.

Okay this was way too much info, and I have forgotten the original question (sorry Walker!) so I might not have answered it.

What can I say, I just worked out so my brain is a little foggy.

My goal is to remain as often as possible between "sleepy full" (and if you're diabetic, you know what that feels like; if not, just think about how you feel after the Thanksgiving meal) and "irritable hungry." Diabetics also know what it is like to become irritable mainly because you are hungry.

I generally don't like feeling hungry to the point of being weak and dizzy. It feels as much like self-abuse as sleepy-hungry, or overfiberized and uncomfortable.

You learn as you go, especially when pacing the foods you normally eat during the day.

The most effective health-care is self-care.

Nutrition is the prescription.

You can literally stretch your lifespan by shrinking your waistline.

Nutrition and other lifestyle factors that you can choose are a more significant determinant of your health than genetics.

Filling your stomach with high-nutrient foods is like by-pass surgery without the surgery.

We are all born with an innate desire to not only survive but thrive.

Letting myself get REALLY hungry is a danger zone for me. Like Anne, getting OVER full makes me feel slow, sluggish and just generally yucky. ( Yucky is a technical term) !!

In between those two I guess I don't really pay too much attention to my hunger level. When I start feeling hungry, really empty, I generally do a mental inventory of what's available to eat. If I'm at home it means figuring out if I'm going to cook, build a salad or grab something that's ready to eat. If cooking or salad building is involved it needs to be done before I get overly hungry. If I'm out and about, what do I have with me? Or where is the nearest place to grab a banana or some other ETL appropriate food.

If I am going to be eating as part of my social life or business schedule I try to arrange it that I'm going to be hungry at the appropriate times, without letting myself get overly hungry. Like today, I have a women's networking group luncheon at 11:30. I had a smoothie early, I'll eat a little something before I go so I won't be too hungry, and I'll be just fine. This luncheon is a "build your own sandwich" so I have rye bread with lettuce, tomato and mustard, and a bottle of water.

I rarely eat a huge meal or amount of food at one sitting so getting that over full feeling doesn't happen very often. There are some exceptions of course. Pasta, especially in a restaurant, can trigger over-eating. It goes down SO easy. Then I'm miserable. At home I stick to whole wheat pasta that is more difficult to over eat, because I do start to feel satisfied, and I measure my portion size before cooking. When it's gone, I'm done.

I drank too much smoothie yesterday morning and really felt VERY full, I put the rest in the fridge. But two hours later I was hungry again.

I don't really need any "Tips to Stay full Longer." I've learned to like feeling "empty" and when I start getting truly hungry, I eat something.

They say it's not true that your stomach shrinks, but I know I don't have the capacity for the volume of food that I use to.

Good topic Anne. Thanks.

I stay on my road and I don't change lanes.

Browsing spark articles I saw one that was titled "Tips to Stay full Longer" and realized that my reaction to that was very very different from what it would have been a year and a half ago.

I used to work pretty intensively not only on feeling full all the time but on feeling stuffed all the time. I didn't know I was doing this; it was emotional eating and a lack of understanding of what I should actually feel physically. Gradually my idea of being healthier became to "stay full longer without being overstuffed".

In the progression of things, now "feeling full longer" seems to mean that I have overeaten. It makes me sluggish to "feel full". For me "feeling full" is not necessary, only "not feeling hungry". Going from full to hungry is not a one click event. I don't have to be full to not be hungry.

I know it is all linguistics~
What does "full" mean to you?
What is "enough"?
Do you want to "stay full longer"?
How much energy do you put into monitoring how your stomach feels?
