Winding up the day feeling pretty good.

Burritaelita, I have the same fondness for slugs that I do for pelicans. They have always fascinated me- so awkward looking but successful at what they do. However I prefer to be neither. lol

I love dragonflies; that definitely would work for a goal image.

Reading the unicorn suggestion I got a beautiful sort of flowing image in my mind; I can picture the transition from slug to unicorn. Very cool!

After reading about slugs, I've have to say that I have a new-found respect and admiration for them. They are quite remarkable. They move slowly, but they definitely have their place in the interconnected web of all living things.

The most effective health-care is self-care.

Nutrition is the prescription.

You can literally stretch your lifespan by shrinking your waistline.

Nutrition and other lifestyle factors that you can choose are a more significant determinant of your health than genetics.

I was thinking that slugs eat greens, and becoming bigger happier slugs, BUT i like the dragonfly answer better!

I'm going to say slugs turn into dragon flies. May not be true but I can choose to believe it! Dragon flies are MAGIC !

I still feel like a big slug. :( I need a really good night of sleep tonight.

Tomorrow I will be online only very briefly as I have to go to work early and then spend some of the rest of the day with my husband. I will check in though.

Keep rooting for me!

If caterpillars turn into butterflies, what do slugs turn into? Use your imagination because I don't think a scientific answer would be too appealing.

Anne, thank you sharing with us what you're dealing with, and just chill as much as you can for awhile, even if that means going offline until you feel less stressed out. Your plan of action sounds great to me, and I support you in whatever you need to do for your health, strength and peace of mind. Let me know if I can help.

55, Very interesting observations about the mind-body connection and the feelings that go along with eating poorly. I am slowly realizing that my blood pressure pill really had more to do with my weight and inactivity than any family genes.

emoticon You guys are awesome.

Observations:

I am feeling something I have not felt in so long that I had forgotten about it. In fact, it was so "normal" at one time that I didn't know that it wasn't natural.
I am aware of my stomach/belly/guts/mid-section and my head. I had not realized that, as my health and habits improved, everything about me became more integrated.

Today I am overwhelmed with feelings and memories of those feelings of heaviness in my middle and a fogginess in my brain. This is a huge contrast to the energy, vitality, buoyancy of the past year.

It is the difference between feeling old and feeling youthful, because, yes, at 55 I have felt much much younger than I have in previous decades.

It is the difference between sinking back into what has been and leaning forward into the future.

I'm glad you've got a plan. It might also help to reach out to some people in your area--some social group where you can relax and forget about your family stuff for awhile.... People can be irritating, but people can also be soothing, depending on the venue...

I have lost it completely the last few days. Not junking myself up but grazing endlessly at home even though I am not the least bit hungry.

Reasons:
~ stressful family issues
~ not getting rested

Excuses:
~ there are NO excuses

It's complicated
~ I am in the vicious cycle of stress impairing my sleep which affects my food behavior which affects my stress which....

I totally know what I need to do and how to do it and why I have to do it.
~ Focus on repairing things.
~ Stress relief for me begins with breathing. I have always had a tendency to hold my breath or breathe irregularly a lot when stressed. "Breathe in breathe out" is where I start fixing this.
~ Food. Nothing for the next eight hours and then sit at the table to eat a bowl of beans and greens with a piece of fresh fruit.
~ Anything I do this weekend is secondary to getting back on track. Ask myself before I do anything if this is the healthiest choice of behavior.

Yep- me first. It goes back to the oxygen mask dropping on the airplane in an emergency. You put your own mask on before you do anything else.
