i am so glad you guys are doing broth from scratch it's amazing! So I just found out there is a vegan restaurant about 1/2 mile from my house! Very small little hole in the wall,if I hadn't seen it on line I never would of found it!So the cook and owner (all one) is the tallest Jamaican dude I've ever seen! He doesn't have any animal products in the place and 2 of the items had wheat which I can't eat,so he fills a styrofoam container with all the different stuff for $8!!!! And oh my goodness it is all out of this world!!! There is enough in it for 4 meals!! DH wanted lobster for dinner so I got him some. When he came home I told him he has lobster but he was gonna be jealous when he tastes mine!! He is,for someone who doesn't want to give up meat he can't stop talking about my vegan dinner, and how he's gonna stop there and get some for dinner one night!!! AHA!! LOL Diane

Hello everyone, we didn't go out to eat last night. My friend called an hour later and said she was too tired. I wonder what happened to her in that hour???

Mu hubby let me make him a smoothie in the vitamix last night. We took our son's glassful out and then adulterated the remains. Like I told my uncle when he was questioning me on becoming vegan (he is vegetarian and has unsuccessfully tried to go vegan many times), "I didn't stop drinking!" Anyway, the smoothie was 100% whole fruit except for the small amount of vodka. emoticon

Just in case you are worrying about me, I have one "special" smoothie and one glass of white wine in an average week. I don't think there is anything worrisome there, but feel free to worry, if you like.

Have a great weekend!!! It is cold and rainy here.
emoticon
You guys have inspired me to keep my veggie clippings in the fridge and make some broth once I get a nice pile...

Has anyone made veggie broth after roasting the vegetables? I am wondering if that would make for a more intense broth.

I am going to ask for a VitaMix for Christmas this year. I'm going to ask as a 'group' present from various family members so it becomes a more doable thing for everyone. (Or maybe contributions for one and I'll make up the difference. We'll see how amenable the fam is to this idea!)

So, the VitaMix really gets rid of the raspberry seeds??? Oooooh, I'm getting excited now! Made a smoothie yesterday in my old Hamilton Beach blender with Concord grapes (haven't had them in probably 30 years). The grapes alone smelled incredible and tasted like eating candy. Amazing. Threw about 1/2 cup into the smoothie, and what a flavor. But the seeds, as usual, were still there and kind of irritating. I drank it and enjoyed it, of course, but would LOVE to be able to grind up those seeds!

We started saving up all the veggie scraps this week and my fiance made some veggie broth yesterday. It was marvelous!! I can't believe he didn't add any salt, because the flavor really was excellent. Wish we knew what all went in there, but it was just lots of miscellaneous scraps of stuff.

Jana, hope you had a good evening out with friends.

Diane, I admire your initiative and resourcefulness. I keep thinking I will get in the habit of making broth. I need to clean out my freezer first so that I can store what is good. I have some old things that didn’t get used and need to go.

Good evening all! Now my blender is dying and I told DH I wanted a vitamix for xmas, then I saw the price and I am sure it is well worth it,but I can not justify it right now.So went to bed ,bath and beyond have a 30% off coupon and picked out a really nice one for him to give me.He felt bad and kept saying he would get the vita mix,but I'm trying to cut back on work so I said not right now!! Then went to the grocery store and got tons of veggies and bananas on the few day old cart (love that thing!) The bananas I peeled, cut and froze for my shakes and the veggie's went into my stir fry!! I also took all the ends and parts of the veggies I cut off and threw them in a pot with water, cooked long and slow, strained out the veg parts and I have a great home made vegetable stock in the freezer now!!! Time to go thru my pots and pans and tag sale a lot of them!! Diane

I love my vitamix. I got my first one in 1973 when my son was born. I never bought baby food, I used it to make my own. It lasted 30 years and would probably still be going if I took better care of it. I got a new one last year. I bought cheaper ones but nothing compares to it.

Try making the ice cream it is so good even my husband eats it. I like the strawberry and peach best. I haven't made chocolate but one of these days.

I had Paula Dean's Broccoli, cauliflower, & carrots, in asiago sauce for lunch. It came in a steam bag. It was delicious but oh duh! I ate the whole bag! 4 servings. Only 320 calories but I thought it was 2 servings and 160 calories. Oh well, I'm still only 575 calories for the day so it isn't terrible.

Good morning everyone! Broke in our new vitamix blender this morning. My son and I shared a fruit smoothie. The raspberry seeds weren't even there anymore! Amazing. I really wasn't convinced there was going to be any difference. I was wrong.

Tonight will be leftovers and a big salad for dinner. Chili for the boys and either a potato or rice dish (and salad) for me. Big salad and beans for lunch. Lately I have been marinating some chopped tomato in balsamic vinegar and throwing that on top of my salad as my dressing. Yummers.

Diane and Vikki, we all need to learn from you about taking our own "stuff".

Morning all. I am going get a much needed hair cut at noon today. My hair grows so slowly and I whack on it when I know I shouldn't. That results in my putting off getting it done professionally until it is so out of shape that I am desperate.

I have a community cocktail pot luck gathering tonight and an annual meeting tomorrow. I need to think about an appetizer to take tonight. I also need to plan a lunch pot luck dish for the Church luncheon on Sunday.

Went out to dinner tonight with friends from the Polk County Spark Team! Got a plain salad and took my own "add ons." Garbanzo beans, green pepper, onions and salad peppers. Took my own salad dressing. Had a perfect vegan meal, enjoyed some fun friends, spread the Spark and had a great time!

Good morning!

Well, I am 6 weeks in to this nutritarian lifestyle and I have bid adieu to 16 pounds. I am feeling great and looking forward to the next set of pounds lost. I gave away my ETL book and I am not sure if I am supposed to continue eating the same way or add back in some grains and/or starchy veggies. I had shut it down to 2-3 servings each a week.

I agree. I like this team better than some of my vegetarian / vegan teams because we are all so different, and yet we're all on the same path. Gaining health and losing or maintaining weight.

The truth is we are all different, there's no one size fits all in health or eating. The key is to find YOUR path, get on it, stay on it, have some fun and make some friends along the way !!

Gain health, lose weight, have fun !!

I LOVE THIS TEAM whether they are vegan, vegetarian or carnivores.
I am not vegan, I don't intend on ever going that way. My completely revised and updated ETL Book offers meal plans for non-vegetarians. It is not necessary to go as extreme as some do. I have gotten great results following a nutritarian diet that includes small amounts of lean meat, egg whites and low/no fat cheese. I buy all my food at Kroger. I enjoy trying new recipes and cooking tips that are shared on this team.

As long as you are trying your very best, there is no question of failure.

Well my ETL (revised and updated) book certainly does tout not eating any animal products.

I'm all for cutting back on animal products, however much and where you can is good. And Fruhman has many plans--Eat for Health and being a Nutriarian to strictly plant strong.

Each person is here for their own reasons. Take whatever parts work for you and work it.

Fuhrman and ETL don't really promote a full vegan diet. Several of us on the team ARE vegan, but you can be nutritarian without being vegan.

Vegan, a pre-historic word for lousy hunter.

I don't believe there were prehistoric vegans. I believe they were omnivores. They ate what they could get when they could get it.

There are places in the US where children eat dirt when they are hungry. Humans are not vegans they are omnivores.

I like the nutritarian ideas of Dr. Fuhrman but I don't belive the vegan stuff.

Hi all!

I'm new to ETL and I left my book at work over the weekend :( and I'm working from home today. Is Malt-O Meal okay for breakfast? If not, I can whip up a green smoothie.

Thanks!

Good morning everyone and happy Halloween! I've been doing ETL for a couple of months, but have been getting a little lax. Too many nuts and grains, etc. It's funny because I think I lose more weight when I eat more nuts and grains. I'm going to experiment this week and eat exactly on plan and see how much I lose compared to when I am not so strict.

I did see Dr. Oz. It was so good. She was a great spokes person for a plant based diet. It's too bad they put it in a zoo and made it seem SO EXTREME! The second part, showing the different meals was much better.

BUELLRIDER, picking a video would be good. I think I will pick two or three exercises to do each morning.

Maureen, welcome. Reading other people’s blogs helped me tremendously.

Hi everyone! I just started ETL yesterday and so far so good. I am so thankful for everyone who blogs about the program. I was in a rut for the last month and luckily came across some blogs and decided to give the 6 week program a try.

It felt amazing today to skip my mid-afternoon snack of soda and sunflowers seeds.

Hope you all have a good weekend!

Mautn have you ever tryed the sparkpeople videos under HeathyLifestyle tab and then select Videos. There is a varitiy of different muscles to work on for 10 min or 15 min. You can select as many as you like. Just 10 min can get you started.

SWEETLIPS, I did water exercises this Summer, but our community pool is closed now for the Winter. There is a liberal arts university 7 miles away, but they only offer one hour of open swim and frankly I do not want to be seen in a bathing suit by all of the employees I worked with for thirty years. There is a community center with a pool down the mountain and 35 miles away. They have more hours open and even have a heated therapeutic shallow, and I should begin to go at least once a week.

I have a group of five ladies I hike with—when the weather is okay—when most are in town. We sometimes hike every week and then may miss for one or more weeks. We hike with packs and usually from 2 ½ to 7 mile. We hiked today, but had missed the last two weeks.

I need to work on making myself do something every day or most days. The workman finished my little dock today so now I can get my kayak in and out of the lake and I live in a gated community of 2000 acres with roughly 13 miles of paved roads. Availability, time, and money are not the problem. I am the problem. But I am working on that.

I am glad to see everyone is doing well on this lovely Monday.

Well my goal was really to start the 6 week phase today. And I did well minus 2 tootsie rolls and a snack (which was an apple). I really felt the struggle around 3:30 and felt hungry and couldn't fight it so I had 2 tootsie rolls out of weakness and then broke down and ate an apple. Tomorrow I am going to plan a snack. If I didn't have that apple I can't imagine my after work workout. I think for me I need that snack until I learn how to properly time my eating and the right amount of food to eat. but I am glad the day went well. I am bloated from all of the beans so I really hope that passes in a day or two.

Hey everybody. Mautin, have you thought about going to your local community college. I take water aerobics, yoga and now adding in belly dancing. Water aerobics is good for the joints and we have a lot of camaraderie going on.

Your exercise issues sound like me. I definitely have my PT twice a week and Taekwondo on Friday, but the rest of the week I make excuses. There's no walk-in tennis at my level except on Wed. But on Wed I get together with my mom and she will only be here through the end of this month, don't want to miss the time with her...etc.

Thanks for the support. I need to figure out how to begin exercising consistently. I can go with my hiking group on a 3 to 6 mile hike one day, but may not have any other exercise for another week or two. I could get out for a walk, but find all too many excuses not to. Arthritis and pain, weather, functions that I need to go to. You name it, I can find an excuse not to do it. Although not perfect, I figured out the eating plan. I keep waiting for that "click" to figure out the exercise problem.

Congratulations, MAUTIN!

LOL, the timing. DH brought home leftovers from a business lunch with 'homemade' chips. They didn't even taste great but the evil things 'had' to be eaten anyway. Hopped on here to get myself back in line and here's this thread. Agreed evil, indeed. :oP

Live the little things.

MAUTn Great! I am so happy for you!
And ditto what MAUITN said to everyone else...
Yesterday I ended up eating out for lunch. I asked the guy for no cheese on the sandwich (first bread in a month) and asked if he had balsamic vinegar. He said yes. I got cheese on my sandwich (and mayo, my fault, scraped it off as best I could) and a heavily dressed salad with oily vinaigrette. Oh, well. That night, at a fast-food place, I got a side salad. She said she could put in some balsamic vinegar. It was lite-vinaigrette. Apparently more than one person thinks there is no difference between vinegar and vinaigrette... Something to keep in mind.

RAINWATCHERDAR I am so glad you are coming out of the detox fog.

Artistgrl, hang in there. I hope you have a stock of pantry items you can use.

Shel, Vikki, and BURRITAELITA don’t even go there with the fries and chips. Lol

Anne, I have never heard of that appliance, but it sounds like a great ideal.

Morning all. I reached a small goal today. I have been stuck on a number on the scale and couldn't get below it. Finally this morning, I am below that number. Just barely, but it works for me.

I am going to a lecture today and have a chiropractor's appointment later in the afternoon.

Grateful to be a member of this team, up early today for the first time in 6 days feeling good and no headache of withdrawal. So grateful that I love veggies and fruit, also that I have a knack for throwing herbs and seasonings together so have been able to enjoy my salads with oil free, salt free, sugar free dressings every day with my own quick concoctions. When I don't think of other items I am choosing not to eat, I do love the food I AM eating and really enjoy it. Grateful for that!! Looking forward to a new day.
