Ooooooo!
I'd love to be apart of the next 30 day challange!

I've always read about the shred one.. but never actually done it. Maybe i'll read up on it right now....
Perhaps a good thing for post holiday craziness

Okay, ladies. There are 10 days left. If I stick to plan and complete the four Shred workouts I have scheduled, that'll give me 17 for the 30 day challenge period. RainyFriday could tie with a Shred session a day from here on out.

Since I'm on the verge of "clinching" the challenge, I thought maybe I'd help make things interesting. How about we start fresh and use the next 9 days (starting Monday 11/8), where the most Shred sessions completed during that timeframe wins the prize SPRING4FAL is offering? I've put asterisks in the days I'm planning to do the workouts, which totals 4 over the next 9 days. All you have to do is do one more than that.

Think of it as a momentum-builder. Get on a roll over the next 9-10 days and you're only a third of the way to 30.

Whaddya say?

Hey everybody!!!

So sorry I have been MIA! I ran a half marathon on 10/24 and it set my whole schedule into a tailspin and I haven't been back in the grove with my workouts yet. I am happy to see that a few of you have been getting those "shred" sessions in!!! Way to go!!!

Bob, thank you for giving great advice while I was MIA! I agree that people should just jump in and start the challenge. These are great workouts, especially if you don't have a lot of time or can't get to the gym.

I can't wait to award the winner of this challenge with some sparkgoodies! :)

Let's go team!!! Shred it up!!!

Thanks for the advice! Sometimes I feel I can do a longer workout after level one, and some days I don't. I also like the idea of doing it in addition to some of my regular workout classes at the gym when I can handle it. I love doing Zumba and think I could handle it and a 20 min shred workout. Glad to know this isn't going to mess up the shred workout.

It's a 30 day program, so you could say spend 10 days on a level before "graduating" to the next, but in reality, you'd have to judge for yourself if you feel ready.

I chose to sequence through the levels rapidly, doing 1, then 2, then 3 and then starting over, just to keep it interesting and non-repetitive. That's pretty non-standard, I'm sure. But I'm a renegade like that.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't do two in a row if you can handle it. I've just started trying that now to get a longer workout. But as for the 30-day program concept, doing a "2-fer" shouldn't count for 2 days. The idea is to do it once a day for results. Doing 2 sessions and skipping the next day doesn't amount to the same thing.

I'm not that rigid. I'm using it more as a compliment to my existing regimen, so some days I'd consider it overtraining to work in a Shred session. I like mixing it up and going off script. Who's to say that's wrong?

Day 5 of 30 day shred! Question, when should you switch to level 2? and then to level 3? Can and should you do two or three levels in one workout?

I wouldn't think it's too late as far as the group "competition" or social support is concerned. It is a 30-day program and there are only 15 days left in the "challenge" period.

But, you can use these next 15 days to build some momentum and then continue on after the challenge to complete the whole sequence.

I say...Just Do It.

I know this is designed to be a 30 day program of 30 consecutive days. But I hope no one is thinking that if you miss a set of days you've "blown it" and find no point in continuing on.

I'm approaching the workouts a little unconventionally, and I'm purposely not doing it everyday, but I'm still finding great value and benefit. I'm surprised to find myself saying that because I'm not really a DVD workout kind of guy.

I guess what I'm doing is a little cheerleading. Don't think that the train has left the station and you're "out" of the challenge because you drifted off or never got started.

Yikes! I forgot about this. I said before that I think it would help if people would check in here either just before or after they record their workout on the spreadsheet. I do better when I'm getting an email to remind me! emoticon

I was beginning to wonder if you all left me hanging high and dry. But checking the spreadsheet just now I see I'm not the only one still plugging along.

Come on, ladies. You got me into this. Don't let me "win" by default.

YIBYAB - glad you are joining the "ladies" on this challenge!! LOL! The workouts are definitely not a walk in the park and are pretty short. Great for beginners or an "extra" for us cardio junkies! LOL! You can ask Kelly about P90X because she has them on her computer and might be able to get you a copy of them!

Way to go folks! I am so excited that people are participating. Yay!

Day 2 is done and I am not sure that I will get the video in today but I am going to try. My muscles are sore and that is good. Yay to that!

We are off to a great start team. Let's keep up the momentum!

Just saw the sparkmail! Woot! I'm so in! I did BFBM on Monday because of the rain but not yesterday because I didn't know about the challenge! Boo. But I'll definately try to do it daily from now on! I'll either be doing 30DS, BFBM or some P90X dvd.

I did level 1 last night. Yeah, Jillian addresses the audience as "ladies" a couple of times. I chuckled...and sweated.

I have a tendency to get hungry in the evenings and snack. Not real "hunger." Just habit hunger. I'm having a hard time breaking myself of the urge to nosh on something long after dinner but before bed. And the craving is usually for something cookie-ish or chip-ish. Definitely empty calorie sort of thing, and it will sometimes "blow" a perfect calorie balance day if I give in.

I can sometimes knock down the urge with a banana or a protein shake. I noticed after spending 20-25 minutes with Jillian, I never experienced that craving. Instead of consuming an extra and unnecessary 200-300 calories, I figure I burned an extra 200 or so. And slept well later as well.

Cool beans. I'm going to try to keep this up and see if I can make it a habit. Glad I noticed the challenge and didn't ignore it as a "ladies-only" thing.

Yibyab- my husband agreed to do the 30DS with me since I did P90X with him. Somewhere along the line Jillian says "Alright ladies" and he just looked at me. Lol. I told him he didn't have to continue if he didn't want to and he said it was fine, just as long as I knew I had to put up with his heckling. ;)

Oh, no, you're right. Working out to videos is not a traditional guy thing. I was so used to using them that when I saw men on infomercials saying they didn't usually think of using them, I was a little surprised. I guess I assumed that just as I used them when I didn't have a gym membership, men would do that, too. but just as more women dance, more women exercise to music, too. And that makes sense. but I know many men would get good work outs from using them. Welcome to the party! emoticon

I'd do P90X if I could get my hand on a set of DVDs without having to purchase it. I've got a little bit of philosophical beef with BeachBody, so I'm not giving them my money.

Shred just happened to be available at the library, so that's what I'll do.

I'm not poo-poohing Jillian's cred for guys. I've just not seen many (any) guys talking about doing it. Seems specifically marketed for women. I don't care though. If it's good, it's good. (Like Secret deodorant.)

Is this a chick thing? I'm not inclined to do a DVD-based workout program, but on a lark, I checked to see if the "Shred" program was available at the library, and I wound up picking the disc up at the Cardiff county branch. Heck, I'm going to give it a try and see what raves are all about.

Shhh. Don't tell the other SparkMales.

Hi Ah-Ling,

I encourage you to post on the accountability partner thread. Also, check through previous posts and see if anyone posted on their from your area and send them a sparkmail or post a message on their page. This is the best way to meet people in your area! Don't get discouraged if others don't respond because this community is very transient! They are here one day and gone the next! Keep reaching out or attend one of the spark outings because they are great for networking. I have met many of my best workout buddies via sparkpeople! Good luck.

When I want to track a video in my fitness tracker, I usually wear my heart rate monitor (HRM) and then log it manually. That way I can enter in the name of the video, total time and calories burned. It is tough if you don't have a HRM but it is worth the investment for tracking calories burned!! Let me know if you want more info on these gadgets.

I don't put in on my fitness tracker as of yet. Just in case this is what you want, I'm reposting the spreadsheet link.

Hey, I completely forgot about this. Can Springforfall or someone take it upon herself to come here add a reply when she records on the spreadsheet? That way, we'll all get a notice in our email and perhaps be reminded/inspired to keep participating! TX! emoticon

Completed level one this morning... It's been too long since I did anything with weights. I can definitely feel it in my arms. Good luck, ladies!

It won't be part of the team goals. The link to the spreadsheet is listed below in a previous post.

Is this already set up in the goals for this team? I saw one for 30 min. 5x a week, but I don't think it's this, right? emoticon

To keep this simple, people may use any exercise video for 25 minutes each day for 30 days. The type of video doesn't matter. If you complete a 30 day shred session or 25 minutes of another video then you simply put a "1" in the spreadsheet (it has already been created, all you have to do is add your name). Whoever has the most days will get a special prize. No measurements or anything else will be incorporated in this particular challenge. If you wanted to coordinate a side challenge on another thread then that would be fine by me but please keep that seperate from this particular one. I have coordinated these in the past and it can get complicated if there are too many things going on. Thanks for understanding.

I like the idea of participating but using my own program. I am not allowing myself to buy any more videos, as I have about 30! Is there a workout every day? I'm sure I could do something analagous. Actually, my plan is to do 15 minutes of resistance work 6 days a week, rotating body parts, and 30 min. of cardio 5 days a week, minimum. However, I'm still recovering from a minor knee injurty, so I have to play it by ear and target only safe exercise. I could add in at least a liesurely walk on a 7th day if there is a workout every day on the 30 day shred. Not sure how this would work with a spread sheet. What do you think?

Also, would we start with some measurements? I'd rather go by thigh, hip, and/or waist measurement than weight. Or are we only focusing on the exercise habit? That seems as fair to me as focusing on "results." emoticon

Awesome!! I am so glad that you went and picked up the DVD! There is no failure in this challenge. Each and every time you complete a session you consider it a success!!! Wooo Hooo!

We will be using the CD in such a way that you will complete one workout from the video for 30 days. The person that gets the most workouts in those 30 days will get a sparkgoodie and a sparkpeople key chain, bumpersticker or video!! I have GOODIES!!! Haha!

Also, I want to invite those of you that have the 30 Day Shred video to get the 30 Day Shred with weights and you can use that video, too, for more variety! I may even consider those who want to use p90x or other exercise video. I may change it to the workout video challenge! LOL! The more people that participate the merrier!

Thanks for joining ladies! I look forward to the challenge!

you're so welcome! i can relate to what you're experiencing. i know how it is when it comes to being unmotivated! only recently have i decided to try to motivate myself by joining this website, and so far it has helped me a great deal. I actually received p90x as a b day gift from a friend several months ago and am so afraid to even start it its still in the box, shrink wrap and all lol). if you've done that, i'm sure jillian's workout will be a piece of cake for you! :)

Thanks Kat! I'm really considering doing this. It seems like something I can manage. I did p90x but I'm feeling so unmotivated to start something new. Maybe I'll head to Target tomorrow morning, if I buy it, I'll have to do it, right? ;)

RainyFriday, I'm with you! However, I am trying to change how I think. Instead of being fearful of not being able to stick with it, I am trying to focus on doing what I can and how good I'd feel if I did manage to stick it out. I'm sure everyone who is a part of this will root us on and encourage us. We are all here for each other. You can do it! :)
Btw,I purchased the dvd from Target today, and it was only $9.00!

This is going to come off as dumb, but is 30 day shred, 30 days or 3 sets of 30 days? I'm sitting here considering doing this, but I'm scared of making a 90 day commitment... failure scares me. :P

I edited my post below...apparently the linking feature does not work because it automatically puts in http and it is an https site so who knows. Anyways, the address is correct below and you may have to copy and paste both lines seperately. If you post your email address or sparkmail me, I will happily send you the link!

Where did you get your shred with weights video? I want to get it but haven't seen it! Glad to have you join in on the challenge! Those videos don't do us any good if we don't use them! hehe! That is why these challenges are great!

I'd be interested since I have the video but rarely use it. I also just bought the Shred It with Weights video.

Hey team!

Last December we did a 30 Day Shred video challenge. Anyone up for another round? It was great to see and encourage those who were participating. The video is very inexpensive (less than $10 at Target/Walmart) and only requires a mat/towel and some hand weights. You can get creative if you don't have hand weights with sand filled water bottles, cans of soup or the like.

Let me know who is interested! We will track the workouts on a google spreadsheet once I see how many are interested.

I would like to start this challenge no later than 10/18/10! So commit here, grab the video and let's get shredded together!!

FYI the workouts are only about 20 minutes long and are modified so that any fitness level can jump in!

Let's do this!!!

Leah
