The only one I've ever been to is the one at Discovery Green. It is relatively small but they have good eggs. lol It's been a while since I've been. I keep meaning to go but never think about it when they are open.

I used to go to the katy one weekly but they closed down in Nov. It was nice having one so close. I only know of ones that are on the inside of 610 which is just too far to drive and too much time.

Bringing the Farmers back to the Community!

2nd & 4th Saturdays near the Depot in Tomball, Texas from 8am-12pm.
Market season runs from March through November.

Located at the corner of 2920 (aka Main Street on the map to the left) and Cherry Street in Historic Downtown Tomball.

Tomball Farmers Market is a registered nonprofit and works as a cooperative effort of local families dedicated to providing the highest quality food and handmade products to our community.

Tomball Farmers Market has been accepted as a certified farmers market with the Texas Department of Agriculture and will be listed on the 2010 Pick Texas website!

Tomball:
"The market is held in conjunction with the city of Tomball's community event, 2nd Saturday at the Depot. Bring the whole family and enjoy the farmers market in the morning followed by antique shopping and free kidís fun, movies, music, arts and concessions! Bring your lawn chairs and a picnic dinner and enjoy the day in old town Tomball!"

Rain Song Farm
(Magnolia, Texas)
Rain Song Farm is a small family farm producing sustainably-grown fresh vegetables, herbs, and starter plants. We are located in Decker Prairie, an area in western Montgomery County between Tomball and Magnolia.

Our vegetables are flavorful and full of nutrients because they are fresh from the garden. We grow the best-tasting varieties to share with our customers. We sell our produce and plants on Saturday mornings at the Grogan's Mill Farmers Market in The Woodlands.

We farm sustainably, always striving to minimize inputs such as energy, water, and fertilizers. We do not use synthetic, broad-spectrum insecticides or herbicides. Instead, we choose plant varieties that are pest-resistant and adapted to our climate, and keep the soil, plants and beneficial insects healthy to minimize pest problems. (more...)

Froberg's Market in Manvel/Alvin is wonderful! Also, not everything is local but they have a great selection at Canino's Produce Market off of Airline! It is wonderful. Everything we get there is awesome. We drive all the way from Lake Jackson for both of these places. Will have to try the Richmond Farmer's Market!

What about "up north"? I figured since I live closer to the farms there would be more markets, right? Does anyone know of some good farmers markets up by Conroe/Spring? We don't even have a whole foods emoticon

So, did I mention that there is live music every saturday too? So, you come to the market, buy a bowl of fresh fruit that one vendor has bought from all the other vendors and then cut up on site and as you walk around you munch on the fruit. You make a full circle without buying anything but the fruit. You make a list of what looks good. After looking at all the booths, you sit down in front of the music tent, and plan your shopping list--using as many fresh items as possible. Then you go back around, purchase what you've decided to get and leave knowing you've done a great thing by supporting local growers and for yourself by eating the freshest veggies/fruit you can possibly get--unless you pick it in your back yard of course. Oh yea, blueberries are in season right now too.
Thanks again for giving me a platform for a good cause! See you Saturday!!!! www.urbanharvest.org

You are more than welcome to keep talking! I just need to get my butt in gear on the weekends and go. My one little tiny tomato was able to be eaten when I got back from my vacation but the rest of the plant is brown from not being watered. Oh well.....

i started this string and then wasn't able to come back until now. how fun to see 10 posts!
Houston is lucky to have several Farmer's Market opportunities. Tues afternoons at the parking lot of Rice Univ, Sunday noon to 4 downtown at Discovery Green and my favorite Sat mornings 8am to noon-on Eastside just off Richmond between Buffalo Speedway and Kirby.
The sat market is locally grown, only growers living within 180 miles of Houston are allowed. In no particular order--Goat cheese, yogurt, organic chicken, beef, eggs, artisan cheese, (right now) figs, a few peaches, watermelons, cantaloupe, fresh bread, and of course veggies as far as the eye can see.
See www.urbanharvest.org for info. also, local chefs do demos using ingredients at the market that day for ideas on how to prepare. I'm not sure how long i'm allowed to ramble, but i just cannot say enough good about supporting the local growers. it makes me WANT to eat better and knowing the food was in the ground or on the tree just days earlier instead of stored in a warehouse or on an 18 wheeler helps...let alone the better taste. I'll stop but would welcome any contact on this subject if you have any questions or would like to volunteer at the Saturday market!

There's also a new one (as in the past year or so) that meets at Rice University. I've yet to go, but I may try it out tomorrow since I have to drive in to town for Jury Duty.

http://farmersmarket.rice.edu/

Tuesdays from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm on the Rice University Campus:

located at 2100 University Blvd. in the South Stadium Lot off University Blvd.

Oh yea, I forgot about that one! I went there last year. I bought fresh eggs. I love fresh eggs especially if the chickens are free-range!

Sarah I have seen signs for it around Richmond and Kirby. Not exactly on that corner but somewhere close to there. I can't tell you exactly.

I just found something that might be of interest to you... this site seems to be specifically for meats, but it does list a couple farmer's markets.

Does anyone know where a good Farmers Market or Produce Market is in the Galleria area? I just moved here, and I'm craving some fresh produce!

Thanks!
