I am new to sparks and was reading some posts and saw that you have lost weight due to illness. May I ask what you have/had? I have Crohn's and Interstitial Cystitis and have also battled EXTREME weight loss...

HungryBro, This is March, so did you make your goal?

I am one of the thousands of Sr. Citizens who is in poor health and gotten too skinny. I am 6' 2" and 154. I read some places that you should have some fat on you after 70 to help fight illness.

I don't feel hungry. I have no active illness at this time. Tho I have had heart problems and oral cancer. I am ok, but need to gain strength.

Hey everyone. Right now I'm 5'10", and about 160 lbs. Before I started weight training in 2007, I was the same height and 132.

My immediate goal is to hit 175 and have a low body fat (about 10%). This is a real challenge, but very possible with the right discipline.

And, oh yeah, I want to gain as much of that as I can before March 5th.

Yay, found a 'team' that's not fixated about weight loss! I'm not alone! LOL. I'm 1m82 and weigh 68 kilos, for you Americans that's just under 6 feet and 150 lbs. My BMI says I'm just hanging at the bottom of what I should weigh. But I know I should eat more (and more often!). Most food I just don't like, but I hope that by changing my diet I can include more food I do like.

I've looked around and tried a few online tools over the past year and finally settled on SP to help me meet my goals. I was so glad to find this group!

I'm 5'8" and have always been a "loser" when experiencing stress or illness. At one point I hit 113lb, which for me was a scrawny, weak, difficult weight. It's taken me a year to get to 124, and I'd like to climb to 135.

Hi, I'm glad I'm not the only one on this site that needs to gain a few pounds! I'm 40 years-old and have been very thin my entire life. I have a super fast metabolism. I am hoping this site will help, my goal is to gain 15 pounds by the end of 2010. I have a hard time because I like to run, it makes me feel good, but it burns way too many calories.

Hi all-
I am joining the weight gain crowd. I have been hovering 100lbs (5'4'') for 6 months and definitely need to fix that. I'm too active for my own good, but have some serious diet restrictions- no gluten or dairy for this kid. Glad to finally see some others out there trying to gain!

Hi and thanks for creating this team! I've been thin all my life and just like the rest of you, I'm sure, I get tired of people snarling, "You're so skinny. Eat a sandwich."

A couple of years ago I discovered I have a condition called Candidiasis, where the body produces too much yeast. Because of this, I have to cut out/greatly limit bread, sugar, cheese, mushrooms, sauces, vinegar, even fruits. So that rules out the "milkshake diet" or the "cake diet" people have intelligently suggested in the past.

The nutrition guide is helping me in a huge way, but because my diet is so close to a diabetic's, does anyone know if there is a meal plan for diabetics that one can choose? I see vegetarian, vegan, etc. but nothing for diabetics.

Thanks again! Here's to getting healthier!

Hi, my name is Nicole. I have been underweight my whole life not counting the 4 months during and after boot camp. Currently I am 21yrs old 5'5 and only 98lbs. Some how I managed to make 116lbs when I first joined the military but wow did I lose that fast. I have tried the weight gainers but they are so bad. I gave up the "see food" diet finally after years of it not working. I love the food tracker, I was never a calorie counting type of person but this just makes it so easy. I really hope this helps. It's so hard to get encouragement from the people around me since they would rather tell me how jealous they are and all the stuff that I am sure everyone here has heard before. Really it's just good to know that I am not the only one with this problem.

Hello All. I'm new to SP and new to this team, though I had to search and search for it (not knowing the best search terms). I'm Jennifer, 38 yo Phoenician who was always tiny but am now the incredible shrinking woman! I was a size 4 but am now a -2. I endured some devastating illnesses between 2000 and 2006 and lost a lot of muscle, tone, and even my skimpy fat layer (not to mention a few of my teeth).

When I first arrived at the hospital in 2004, I was asked if I was anorexic and had to be given IV's for the first four days to treat me for starvation - the problem was that a medication I had been on nearly killed me and wiped out my sense of taste, smell, and hunger for a long time. I was literally skin and bones, and even those were damaged by the Rx.

So, it's a few years later, I have re-learned to do simple things like walk, write my name, and lift a spoon to my mouth. I can smell, taste and enjoy food again. However, I still have absolutely no endurance, I have difficulty with even the beginner level exercises, and am having a lot of difficulty finding clothing for adults in children's sizes (girls 14, atm). I'm hoping to build up my muscles (I had been a dancer) again and even build up enough of a fat layer that my veins, arteries, bones, etc stop showing through my flesh.

I'd like to be able to shop off the rack for my clothing, the same goal as many who are trying to lose weight.

Once, when I was weak I slew a giant.
Once, when I submitted I was defiant.
Once, when I was crying I had to smile.
Once, when I was crippled I ran for miles.

hi everyone! i'm a newbie :)

so, a little about me. i'm 23 years old, 5'4, currently about 101 lbs. i've been tiny pretty much all my life. i danced from when i was a child all through college, so i was always thin and in shape. then, enter LAW SCHOOL lol. between all the junk food, red bulls, alcohol, and lack of exercise ... i ended up weighing in at 115 this past december, which was the most i'd weighed in my life. so i started counting calories in order to lose weight, but i didn't make time to exercise and i didn't pay attention to what nutrients were in the calories i was eating. so, i lost almost 20lbs (was 98 at my lowest) but the weight wasn't necessarily FAT.

so my goal now is basically to tone up. gain weight but have it be MUSCLE not fat. then, when i'm up a few lbs, i can go back on a deficit and lose the weight but keep working out and keep my fat intake low so that i lose FAT not muscle.

if anyone has any tips or advice or ideas to offer, or just wants to say hi, please do! thanks for reading!

Hi! I've just returned to SP after some time away, generally trying to sort myself out. I have problems with food and eating, and also am an avid exerciser.
Over the past couple of years, after living with a constant calorie deficit, my weight has decreased steadily so that now I am underweight and have various medical problems that come with a low weight and body fat percentage.
I'm glad I stumbled upon this team, as it seems to be just what I need right now.
Here's hoping I can get some support and advice and also hopefully pass on some advice in return!

Please read my ticker backwards as I am trying to gain weight.

Hi,
I am currently 96 lbs and decreasing, 5'2" tall. The cause of my continuing weight loss has not yet been determined. I am currently undergoing some medical tests, seeing a naturopath and a dietician. I have been put on a high calorie, high protein diet but am limited in my food choices because of several food allergies/intolerances (no wheat, peanuts, dairy, eggs, sunflower seeds/oil)
Aiming for 2000+ calories a day which is harder than I thought! Looking forward to getting to know all of you and sharing some good tips.

Welcome JENA.SMITH19, I too have a partner who can't seem to put on weight. I don't have any answers yet, but just wanted to say hi. I'm sorry your guy is allergic to wheat. My partner is corn. It's a real bum when you have a food allergy. Anyway, welcome to the team. emoticon emoticon I too am looking for weight gaining ideas (not for me, I'm big, and my partner is skinny).

Hi there. I joined this group not for myself but for my significant other. He has always tried to gain weight and has never had much success. He used to go to the gym on a daily basis as well as try to take in a good amount of calories daily but he never really had much luck. We have started back up going to the gym and again his goal is to put on weight. I am looking for any ideas for him that people have had success with. He is also allergic to gluten (wheat) so his food options are more limited.

Hi, my name is Chris, but I'm not joining for myself, but for my partner. She can't seem to gain weight and when she does, she feel better , but can't keep the weight on. She's not a computer person, so I'm joining for her. She's 5'6" and ranges from 100 to 105 pounds, but can't keep it on. One of the coaches led me here, and I'm glad you all are here. I know how hard it is to gain and sustain the weight.

Hey! My name's Caroline. I'm a freshman in college, and unlike some of my friends who gained a lot of weight, I lost around 15 lbs. I currently weigh around 108 and am 5'8". Last week, I went my college's nutritionist for a consultation, and she really helped me out with some suggestions on eating more protein, etc. Now, I'm just trying to stick to this plan because since I'm eating more, I feel so full and gross sometimes. Any suggestions? Support? Thanks ya'll and good luck!

Hello. My name is Jennifer. I just joined this morning, and it is such a relief to know that there are so many people out there in the same situation as myself. I'm almost 5'5 and weigh 90 lbs. My heaviest was 121, the day my son was born. I was hoping to keep some baby weight, but it didn't happen. I'm tired of being told that people think I have an eating disorder. I (like I'm sure a lot of you) eat all the time. I'm here to get ideas on how to gain, and the try to achieve the discipline to eat healthier.

Please read my ticker backwards!

Hello!!! My name is Amanda and I too am trying to gain weight! I am recovering from an eating disorder so gaining is difficult for me because in my mind gaining means getting fat, but I am getting there!! I am 5'5'' and at my lowest I weighed 88 lbs. I have gained some weight and now weigh 98.8. I have recently started with an online personal trainer who says my ideal weight would be around 125, which I have to be honest scares me a little. She says that if it is healthy weight that I gain I will not look fat. I have to just keep telling myself that! She has me eating 1800 cals a day and said that we have to work me up to eating 2500 clas a day! Do any of yall eat that much!? If so how! I am stuffed at 1800!! Well if any of you have any advice it would be appreciated!!! Thanks and good luck!!

Amanda

I hope to gain about 10 pounds. I'm so glad I found this group, I was starting to get frustrated with everything always being about LOSING weight! We rule guys.

Hi, I'm Anne.

I've always been thin - my all-time high was 102 (I'm 5'3). I've mostly floated between 95-98, though.

And then I got sick and found out I had a brain tumor, and the weight just fell off. I was down to 73 at my smallest, and I can't put the weight back on for the life of me. It'll be 3 years since my surgery in a couple of days, and I'm just now up to 78.8 lbs. I'm hoping I can get back up to 102, because that was a good weight for me.

Hey guys and gals. My name is Dan and I am a trainer. You would think that I should know what to do to gain weight but my knowledge and my results have not matched up. I am 6 foot 1 inch tall and weigh about 160 pounds. Maybe not the skinniest but when I have a shirt on I don't look that "big" or musclular. With it off I look ok but i want to get bigger.

Hello! My name is Yana and i recently kicked anorexia's ass :) But after having my weight increased by medication ( i am 5'7'' and was 105 and now i'm 110 ) i still could use a little bit of weight to rebuild a healthy body, cover up spooky bones and get my period back. Really glad to have found this group! good luck to everyone emoticon

Hello,
I personally am in with the majority of Sparkers - I'm here to pick up some hints for my psuedo-fiancee. When we first met, we were the same weight, 130 - 3-1/2 years of twice-thrice weekly dinners out, he's (at 5'9'') still hitting 130 after a big breakfast and I've (at 5'5'') jumped up 40 pounds :-) We just recently moved in together and made an agreement that it was time to get into shape, so we've both set a goal of 145 (+15 for him, -25 for me - might even take about the same amount of time since gaining is harder for the high metabolism set like most of you here.) Wish us luck, and the best back to y'alls :-)

its awesome and at the same time kinda sad to see there are so many people in the same situation as mine. I know how hard it is to try and gain weight, and i hate it when people assume its so easy.
I am 24 5-1 and about 90 lbs i hope to reach 100 lbs I dont have an eating disorder, im just very petite and super healthy. I want to gain the weight, just so that i can fill out my clothes a bit better and feel that much better about myself.
I wish everybody lots of luck!

Hi everyone! I was so happy to find a team on here with the purpose of gaining weight! I'm currently 5'3" and 96 pounds, only after finally gaining a pound last week. I've got a 2 year old a three year old, and it's getting so hard to keep up with them, carry them, etc. I'd like to put on 10 pounds, maybe a few more if I make it to that.

Hello I'm Daniel. I didn't mean to be rude but I realized I had never formally introduced myself. I am glad to find others "in the same boat". Just as weight loss can be a hard task, for some weight gain is just as difficult.

People can't understand why someone would join a "diet" group to gain weight. I'm trying to learn to make healthier choices in what I eat. It's funny when people find out your not trying to shed the pounds and they stop talking to you cause your not "in the same boat".

I'm here to keep track of what I have or haven't been eating. I tried another very boring and uninspiring website to track my caloric intake. That's when I learned I was not taking in enough calories. I'm glad I happen to find this website. Much more informative, social, and inspirational!

I hope all of you make wiser choices in your eating habits and are able to gain those healthy pounds! As the intro to this team says: Let the minority unite!

Daniel

Hi, my name is Jessyca and I am 20 years old. I'm 5'1" and I weigh 82lbs. I'm not anorexic, or bulimic, and never have been. I just have a high metabolism, a bad memory, and a love for junk food. It took me two months to gain 5lbs, and one month to loose it again, so here I am. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Its great to find a team that is addressing weight gain!

I've always been very slim, but recently my metabolism has started to change. So I have to start watching what I eat more. I've loss a bit of the unhealthy weight I put on during my first couple years of university (fat, my weight has gone up and down constantly by a few pounds) and an looking to replace this with some healthy weight (muscle).

I also found out I can't start donating blood until I weight atleast 110, so thats another incentive.

That and I'd really like to start retaining some body heat and not be threatened by the wind, lol ;)

Please read my Weight Loss Ticker BACKWARDS! I am trying to put on some muscle weight :)

Hello everyone my name is Chris and I can't believe I found a group on here that fit what I really needed. So let me begin in school I was always the really skinny one and then I had some definition but was always underweight. Then about two years ago I got cancer, and well lost so much weight I looked like a refugee and about the time I gained the weight back the cancer came back, now I am clear and free but this time the weight wont come back on. Looking to find my body again, but where has it gone.
Thanks,
Chris

I've been wanting to gain for the longest time now! I'd like to gain 20 lbs, but I will be happy, because that will put me in a healthy weight range.

Woohoo! I am so excited to find this group. I'm not the only one! I am 5'1" and currently 89.5 lbs. Since my first daughter was born ('02), I struggle to maintain a healthy weight (for me, with a very small frame, 95 lbs., or 100 when I'm nursing). While breastfeeding, it's even harder because of the extra calories burned. I seem to just have difficulty cramming in enough calories in a day. I try to eat a whole-foods diet, but with lots of natural fats - full-fat milk, butter, olive oil, etc.

Well, I certainly am happy to see this team here on Spark!! WooHoo!! People who understand ME!! I've never weighed more than 105 unless I was pregnant, and then only in the last few months of that. LOL I simply cannot gain weight. I eat what I want, when I want....I've been tracking my nutrition here on Spark for several days now, and am seeing that I have the calories, just not necessarily where they should be. I drink alot of sugared coffee and non-diet sodas. But my weight has never wavered from the 99 to 102 pounds stage. At my height, I'd like to weigh about 110 - 115. Is there someplace here on Spark we could suggest that they change the meal plans for those who need to GAIN weight??

Okay, enough about that. Guess I should get to the actual introduction part, huh? LOL

I'm Dee (a.k.a. PrettyViolet), happily married thirty-something mom to five children, living in Northern Middle Tennessee, although originally from Ohio.

And that's about it...oh, and as far as a new team leader, I wouldn't mind that job, if it is still up for grabs.

Have a wonderful evening!

Dee

hi, i'm matt.

i am realizing very recently that i actually need to gain weight. i joined sparkpeople because i wanted to get in shape and wanted to have a way to track the exercise i was getting. i knew that realistically i should stay the same weight - but it's been hard to resist the temptation to lose. (this was the case before i joined sparkpeople too.)

yesterday i looked in the mirror and was frightened by my cheekbones. i realized for the first time what all my friends have been telling me - i need to gain weight, not just not lose it! i'm not really underweight for my height just by numbers... but i realized that i have to pay more attention to how i look than the numbers. i don't want to be a skeletal guy.

i still want to get in shape, though. so i guess i have to figure out the best way to gain muscle and not lose anything. i would like to go about this in a healthy way.

i'm around 128 and think that i look more healthy when i am 135-140. so, i guess somewhere in there is my goal.

Hi, my name is Kenzie and I'm 17. After struggling with an Eating Disorder for the past 3 years I think that I am mentally ready to start the steps of gaining some of my weight back.
I am about 5'7" and weigh 103 pounds... my lowest was 95. My goal is to get up to 110 pounds and then from there, hopefully I will be motivated to gain 5 more. emoticon
I can't wait to meet you all, although I'm not quite sure how to.. lol. Any help on gaining weight OR on how to work this website, t would be much apprecitated. Thanks!

I am happy to find this group! My mom has been on SP for quite a while and is doing great losing weight. I however have always struggled to gain weight and really watch what I eat. My diet is just as important as hers, but rarely do I get any support. I get plenty of rude comments from people if I even mention my weight if they are dieting because they "think" they "wish they" had my problem.

I hope I can support you all as I try to gain weight while also trying to strength train and tone my body. I have always been afraid to work out more than I do for fear of losing more.

I also love the backwards tickers!! So smart.

Read my ticker backwards! My goal weight is the start weight...I am trying to gain.

Hi! My name is Sarah, I used to be 125 in highschool during swim season and 120 in the off season. But I have not worked out in the last 4 years and 15 lbs have slipped away from me. I would like to gain the muscle weight back. I stopped smoking about a month ago and my body is craving more healthy improvements.

I'm so glad there is a group for us, I think this website will help me a lot.

Rebecca - I ate McD's twice a day for a month in an attempt to gain weight, and I lost 7 lbs, so I think you'll have a better shot with healthy foods, lol.

My ticker is for weight gain - please read it backwards :)

Greetings! I'm Rebecca, currently a SAHM and I need to gain weight, probably about 5 lbs. My biggest problem is that I'm breastfeeding my baby and with all the extra calories I burn from that, my body doesn't have a chance to keep extra weight on. I TRY to eat healthy (if I really wanted to gain weight I would just eat at McDonalds everyday) and I workout. Between nursing and excercising I can't keep weight on. I don't want to look like Nicole Richie! Look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi. my name is Missi. I am 5'11" and I weigh 110lbs. I want to be a healthy weight of 135 lbs. for my height and my age. I have two little boys, and I'm sick of always being tired. I'm like this b/c I have Grave's Disease, which is ultimately a really fast metabolism.

Hi, I'm Tracey. Glad somebody else started this team so I didn't have to ;) I'm trying to get up to at least 105 if not 110 lbs to be healthier. I have a fast metabolism, don't have time to cook much, and sometimes even forget to eat. At present, I'm nearly at 105 with clothes and shoes on, but I'd like that to be my weight without clothes or shoes. And I want the change in habits to be permanent. Though right now I'm backsliding a bit because it is the end of the semester and I have two weeks to do four paintings and nine drawings. ;;_; oh noes... and there is a McDonalds one block away from my house. This bodes not well.

Everyday, I create myself ^_^

Hey Neena! Great to see you joined the team! You know, it's really good that you are taking this step toward becoming a healthier (and ultimately happier) person :) It's encouraging for all of us!

2 pounds gained is great - good for you! I keep gaining and then losing the same five pounds over and over... BAH, frustrating lol. We will all get there. We are not alone! In other words... Welcome!

Hi, future members of the "need to gain weight" team!

I'm Rachel and I am pretty sure there are other people on this site (not just me) who need to gain weight. Or am I all alone? Please come and introduce yourself - I'm feeling discouraged.

I'm hoping that this team will eventually be an encouragement to those of us with this issue.

God Bless!
