Congratulations on successful weight loss. Now you are on the journey of maintenance which can be just as challenging and some say even more challenging than the original weight loss. I believe the effort is well worth it.
Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease that affects your digestive track making it unable to absorb nutrients. Mainly wheat gluten is responsible for this adverse reaction, but also in barley and rye and is in a number of other products. Going on a gluten free diet seems to be the only way to manage it.
As for your weight and carbs. What kind of carbs are you eating? Are they white or whole grain? Do you eat protein and/or fat with your carbs? Protein and fat can keep your blood sugars from spiking. How much protein and fat do you eat? Do you exercise? These things can make a big difference in your blood sugar levels. Are you on any medications?
I have had diabetes for 7 years and lost 50+ pounds last year as well I became vegan. This has helped me so much in controlling my blood sugars that I am almost off all medications. I have struggled with keeping my weight stable because I was afraid of losing too much. It is finally stable now.
You might want to email Dietician Becky and ask her advice.

What is celiac disease? I'm also diabetic (recently diagnosed? almost 2 years now) and have lost a tremendous amount of weight and am now 92 lbs from 160 lbs 19 months ago. It's frustrating because I can't seem to gain any weight and my sugar levels are through the roof. I just joined Spark to try and get my nutritional needs met and blood sugar under control but I can't lose any more weight! I'm wondering what other underlying causes might be at play here and could use some help... thanks emoticon

I am not new to Spark but just joined this group.
I don't have celiac disease although I am aware of its complications. I know what it is like to try and gain weight and I am finding it difficult.
I have diabetes. I lost 50 pounds over the past year that I wanted and needed to lose but now I am down almost 5 more pounds. After I had lost 20 pounds I became vegan. I have lost easily and steadily since then. My family is concerned I am now losing too much. I am working with a dietician, but I am changing to a new dietician (haven't seen her yet). This new person deals with people with diabetes and fitness and I seem to be addicted to fitness classes. My blood sugar has been quite erratic recently as well. It seems to be between 11 and 15, then goes down to 4.3 after a meal. (normal is between 6 & 8). So I need to restrict some of my carbs. I was eating lots (over a cup)of nuts daily. Still I am not gaining. I seem to gain a little weight then I lose more. I wonder if I just need to be slimmer than what I already am. At 115 pounds (5'3")I am certainly not skinny, but I don't have much reserve either. I am thinking of becoming vegetarian or just eating fish instead of being vegan. I feel very confused.

Hi guys. I fit this category too! My celiac labs came back negative, but I have had a positive result by dropping it from diet. I am also trying to gain weight back. I don't help the situation by being a bicycling addict, but it's been a struggle to balance this diet out (no dairy either).
Definitely up for trading stories!

I to am struggling... How did you first know you had celiac disease?

Right now I think I may have it but I have not been tested yet. I have cut gluten (which has helped my bloated and gassy stomach tremendously)

I do not digest a lot of carbs well at all and I get really bloated! It's been hard, and I have lost a lot of weight too....

I, too, struggle to recover from complex medical issues while friends and family seem to expect it to be overnight!

I'd be more than happy to be a source of encouragement (and maybe we can find some foods that we can eat - my IBS limits what I can have like your celiac disease does).

Once, when I was weak I slew a giant.
Once, when I submitted I was defiant.
Once, when I was crying I had to smile.
Once, when I was crippled I ran for miles.

I am a 23 year old who is currently struggling to gain weight due to many different factors! I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and have lost down to 89 pounds at the smallest amount. I am currently 91 lbs and am hoping to slowly gain weight back up to 105 lbs. My parents and friends are very frustrating because they don't understand that it is going to take a long time to gain back all the weight I have lost and expect immediate results!!! AAAHHHHHHH!!!
If there is any other girls who are dealing with some similar situation(s) or just would like to become encouragment friends...I am up to it! emoticon
