People can be so discouraging. They also have the damned if you do damned if you don't mantality. I avoid going out to eat with friends because of it, I would rather eat at home then go out and face the "oh there's still food on your plate...you need to eat more your too thin" or worse "you ate all that and a dessert and your not even 100lbs wow must be nice to eat all that."

I know I'm skinny and the comments make me self concious about it, I understand that many people would kill to be "super model" skinny...just no one that actually is wants to be. Its harder to ignore the discouragement in gaining weight; however when close friends and family say you need to gain you feel worse because you are trying.

Fact is you shouldn't gain weight to please other people if you are in range for a normal weight for your height then who cares what they think. If you are happy with yourself don't worry about it. As far as keeping toned and gaining weight...maintain a workout plan that concentrates on your belly area. Besides muscle weighs more then fat.

My new years resolution was to be healthy again..eat fruits and veggies and drink a lot more water. I am naturally thin and an athlete but in college I had put on some weight. My lifestyle was not that healthy at all with drinking. I noticed that I was gaining weight.... so this year I have gone back to my normal healthy ways, and drank less and ate better and I dropped 10 pounds.
but since I am already naturally smaller 10 pounds is a lot (125 to 115 is really noticeable)

Now people say how skinny I am.. its so frustrating because I am healthier than I ever was before! I eat right and exercise. Its sooo frustrating, because I am being criticized when I really think these people just aren't living healthy lives.

Sometimes I wonder if I should gain weight, when the sole reason is so people dont make comments.

But if i do gain a few pougns, I don't want to get a belly on me (where i usually do) and I still want to be toned, so I don't know how to gain a little while still being toned??

I used to have the same problem - particularly when I'm stressed, eating in the morning makes me nauseous. I found advice to eat a decent amount of protein shortly before bed. It works! Just a few crackers+cheese (a favorite snack of mine) around 9:30 at night, and I was able to eat breakfast the next morning. When I do feel sick, I just eat a few bites of a simple food, like oatmeal or toast and wait a few minutes. Sometimes that's enough to calm my stomach so I can finish breakfast.

Read the ticker backwards - I'm trying to gain!

Goal 1: 100 lbs.

people can be so cruel sometimes! Its horrible! I put in so much effort to gain a bit of weight and than someone sees me and says-you've lost so much weight you look terrible! And i end up feeling deflated and depressed because all my effort seems to have gone to waste. I recently noticed that my fingers can't go around my bicep anymore which is such a bid deal for me! When i told one of my colleges instead of a bravo, i got a "oh my gosh your arm is so skinny- you need to eat more" .....yeah thanks a bunch

Definitely eat breakfast! If you can find some good cereal that you like, you can actually look forward to it! Bran Flakes are great because they're very nutritious- some good fiber and protein for cereal, but my favs right now are honey nut cheerios and special k w/ berries. (They're both great with milk and I don't even like milk!) emoticon Oatmeal's a great option too. I don't eat it at home, but I'm in college now and if I happen to be at the student union around breakfast, it's a great option!

I HATE that. "You need to eat more."
It's like wow, thank you so much for giving me your marvelous opinion. You've inspired me to eat a ton every time I sit down for a meal. Sometimes I wish people would shove it and mind their own business. lol

People assume I'm bulimic because I eat a whole lot but never gain weight. That's not the case at all. I do eat a lot, but just not enough for my body to gain anything. My metabolism is just too high. It's so high that if I wait too long to eat a meal or if I skip lunch or dinner, I start to black out or see spots. It's ridiculous.

I need to start eating breakfast. I haven't eaten breakfast since middle school because it often makes me really sick, but I'm having so much trouble getting over 2000 calories a day with only lunch and dinner and snacks. Plus I know going without breakfast isn't good for you.

THat's the weird part. I'm not really uncomfortable eating around people too much, and portions aren't even too small. It just I normally am the one not drinking all the soft drinks and downing chips. I always have fruit with lunch and dinner and love salads. I wasn't this thin last year, it was whenever I came to college. I've completely avoided the fast food and thus dropped massive amounts of weight. I'm 5'8" and currently around 108 lbs.

I always feel uncomfortable eating with other people because I eat small portions and they assume I'm on a diet. "You're so skinny, you need to eat more!" No, I just like to eat small portions, several times a day and I have a fast metabolism! I'm 5'2" and made it to 90 pounds but I go up and down a pound or two all the time. It's nice to know there are people out there that understand what it's like to be underweight. Thanks for posting!

I really appreciate this post. THank you! It really is amazing how misunderstood so many people are. The "skinny" and "don't you eat anything" comments do get old...really fast! I like being fit and everything, but some days, when someone says something like that it really can hit me the wrong way! Keep working towards your goals and don't let these things get you down!
Happy Easter! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I guarantee most of you have dealt with some pretty harsh comments on your weight. I know I have. I've been told I look anorexic, unhealthy, disgusting, dead, and so many others to name. That just doesn't do much for confidence, does it?

Really the problem is lack of understanding. People that weigh a lot more than you do not understand that it hurts your feelings to hear these things. A lot of them long to be a lot smaller than they are, and so it's hard for them to have any sympathy for you. Just try to understand that they have probably been very self-conscious themselves. Most of them don't really expect to hurt your feelings, and if they do, it's because they are in their own sort of pain and are lashing out at those they are envious of.

I am so thankful that this team exists. I think sparkpeople is incredible, not just for weight problems, but it is fabulous to be able to share your weight GAINING challenges with people who understand.

I am 5'3 and on a good day, I weigh 92 pounds. My metabolism works in overdrive.

I love you guys!!
