I think the prayer of St Francis embodies everything that we should strive for and strive to do in this year of mercy

the following are excerpts from the Saint Joseph Commentary on the Sunday readings, Year C:

Second reading:
The word love (charity) used by St Paul serves to distinguish Christian love, which is directed to disinterested self-giving, from purely human and limited love, which all too often tends to a passionate possession. Charity means love, but it is a love that is active, pure, respectful...

Let us not forget that it is love for our neighbor which constitutes the sign of our love for God...

The prayer of St Francis of Assissi ...re-echoes and responds to the text of St. Paul. Such a prayer addressed to God with a sincere heart quite naturally suggests in what manner we must express our love for our neighbor.

Lord,
make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loves as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

The 1st and 3rd readings for today should remind us that what people thinks about us should not matter--only what God thinks about us matters. the Lord knew each of us before He brought us into being. In the second reading, Paul completes the thought: We should concentrate on loving God and others
