-I'm going to read the daily Bible readings every day, even on Mass days. With two kiddos it's sometimes hard to focus during Mass.

-Praying the Rosary daily. I'm so much calmer when I do this. I HAVE to make it a priority.

I reread my Marriage Encounter Journals from a long time ago...over 30 years ago, and was surprised that I did NOT mention God so much in my life,(in my journal anyway) even though we went to mass and I know I prayed then as well as I do now, but I find I am so much more spiritual than I was back then, and so glad of it!

I have two. One is to seek God in every situation. I still tend to think, "I've got this." When it doesn't work out, then I go running to Papa. Trying to change that.

Two is seeking, accepting and relying on God's grace and strength to get me through anything. God was with me through some majorly painful and scary times over the past year and a half, including moving my parents to assisted living, cleaning and selling their house, moving my dad to a nursing home, my dad's death, a terrible work assignment that I had for 9 months, mom having foot surgery, my retirement. Those are just a few highlights. I was reading back in my prayer journal and was amazed at how His grace and strength carried me through. Most of my entries were positive and I was thanking God for his mercy and love.

We truly have an awesome and loving God. He is always with us. Jesus, I trust in you!

Because I have been working on my physical and mental self for the last 2 years it is now time to turn to my spiritual side. I am therefore working on being fully involved with the mass and my prayers.
There are so many times I find my mind wondering while I am in prayer. I have decided to take a page from my grandmothers book and I am creating a space where I can sit quietly in reflection and prayer and there are no distractions.
I just have a comfortable chair and table to hold my bible, prayer book and a lamp in the corner of a spare room and there is nothing else to occupy my mind.

Our church gave out the new Matthew Kelly book Rediscover Jesus and I'm reading a chapter a day...40 day journey with our priest...online! Love it, and also reading the Daily Word, another Catholic daily devotional our church gives out.

I pray daily and nightly for our world, family, peace.

I have added 30 minutes of spiritual reading each night, turning off the television! I need more time for relaxation, and what better place to relax than in the arms of Jesus!

Mine would be to increase my spiritual reading. I am including The Catholic One Year Bible, Susan Tassone's Day by Day for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, and my Magnificat. And to be less distracted when reciting my rosary by creating a prayer space. Good Topic.

We all make resolutions to lose weight, organize, eat better, sleep more, but what are we doing for our souls? I never actually thought about the question until I saw it on my Year of mercy calendar. So what is my new year's resolution? To learn to open up my heart more fully to God. As much as I do and pray, I can do more and I can be better and I have to free my self from the fear of truly becoming open to God in the most complete way.
