Wow. That was very prophetic, wasn't it?

Thanks for posting that.

What if we woke up tomorrow with only those things that we thanked God for today?

"The chief priests and the Pharisees convened the Sanhedrin and said, "What are we going to do?"... But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, ''You know nothing, nor do you consider that it is better for you that one man should die instead of the people, so that the whole nation may not perish." (Jn 11:45-56)

Today, Saturday of the Fifth Week of Lent, is the one and only time this Gospel passage is used at Mass. For that reason, many people may not be very familiar with it.

Jesus has just raised Lazarus from the dead, and a large number of people witnessed this sign. Some of the witnesses reported it to the religious leaders. The Sanhedrin was convened. Its members were worried, saying, "This man is performing many signs. If we leave him alone, all will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our land and our nation." (Rome did not look kindly on local charismatic leaders who won the
support of the masses.)

It was then that Caiaphas spoke. Little did he know that he was being prophetic, for the death of Jesus saved not only the whole nation, but the whole world. This places before us a simple truth: Jesus didn't die for himself. He died for others.

It is a very moving thing when someone dies for another.

Jesus died a very painful death - for me.

The above passage is from "The Little Black Book Book--Lenten reflections 2009"
