Yes, our higher up get a salary... receptionist, youth ministers, maintenance, those type of people... who I feel should be. But ministry helpers, no.

I used to get paid to cook for the senior ministry. Everything was freshly made and needed professional cooks. But I got into other ministrys. All of them volunteer.

Thanks for your replies! I was beginning to think until you all posted that our church was strange in not paying our lectors, etc.

More like at Crimscout's church. Anyone with an "official" position is salaried EXCEPT deacons. not Eucharistic ministers either. We do have a person in our congregation who does a collection this time of year for the deacons. I'm sure many are more generous than we can be but then our budget is pretty small.

When all your desires are distilled, you will cast just two votes: to love more and to be happy.

It depends on the task. The choir director, religious education, maintenance head are all paid positions, but ministers, choir members, lectors are all volunteer. Our retired deacon was paid a small salary, basically expenses, and we do ok with that.

We are all volunteers at my church too... I love doing my ministry and love the feeling I get inside! That's the best "payment"!!!

My two cubs/boys are Altar boys
My husband helps with coffee & Donuts after masses
And I'm an EM

I'm also very involved in my MOMS Ministry, and my cubs with youth ministries! All for free and the joy of helping!

Hello all.
I just learned today that some people are paid to participate in some ministries at one of the churches I sometimes celebrate at.

That gave me pause. I had never heard of that before. For me, being a lector or music minister, etc., has always been a way for me to live my faith as a baptized/confirmed member of the Church.

Do any of you know of ministers getting paid? Or do they do it voluntarily where you worship?
