I think it's going to be hot here today and I'm going to make it a rest day. I'll do some sewing, but not much physical. We all worked hard yesterday and didn't get home until 11:30--5 of us were showered and in bed by midnight.

Four families helped to get the last trailer loads out to the ranch, including 5 horses, 4 pigs, 2 steers, a dozen laying hens, some young chickens, and two dogs. The men and boys set up pens for the pigs and steers and unloaded them after unloading the horses and putting them into their new round pen. Well, their old pen but in a new place.

The day ended with a wiener roast over a small fire as we watched a thunder storm rolling in from a distance. The light show was like the 4th of July with all the oohing and aahing. One of the owners had cut and baled some hay in the small field, and mentioned that he was going to gather the bales and cover them to keep them dry--so the boys gobbled their hot dogs and ran out to help him. When the rain finally came, we were ready to pack up and head home. Some of the helpers had already gone home for evening chores and everyone was pretty well wiped out.

Chris, can you put something thick over it---like a small plastic heavy duty ground cover that could be gathered round the bottom? Or maybe take a hedge trimmer to get most of the branches off of it so that you can remover the major part with less thorn issues---that way you could use a rake to gather up the leavings and use those plastic leaves hands to pick them up with and dispose of them. Just a thought on how to make it easier to handle.
Terri, how great that you can show her how to can different things. I know I don't can as I would want someone to show me how to do it and help me the first time I would attempt to do something like that.
Not sure what I will get into today---Hope to be productive and not so much a couch potato as I was last weekend.

Yuck to the thorns, Chris. Maybe you should get some of those long-sleeved gloves they have for pruning roses. I have some long loppers that I use sometimes, but I don't have those gloves, so my shirt sleeves always get caught.

got both of the the trees in the front cleared of all the weeds. It is killing me not to get in the big garden it is still to muddy from all the rain. Working the trees was bad but I didn't really have to stand in the mud much.
Supposed to be clear for the next couple of days so hopefully next week I can get in my garden. There is a bush that needs to get cut out as it died and that will be a challenge as it has thorns all over it!

That's the plan, Cathy. He's taking another trailer out today and I think I'll be taking some of my tomato seedlings out to our friend's house to plant along with hers. She's got a huge area and plenty of water, so offered to "foster parent" my garden this season since I can't be at either house enough to care for a garden. Hopefully, we'll see a good harvest and I'll work with her on the canning when the time comes. She wants to learn how to can a few more things, since she's only made jam so far.

Chris, good job on the curtains. I am lucky to have a Boscov's department store here and can find curtains there. But sometimes nothing is what I am looking for.
Terri, hope Steve can get back to work on your house next week.

Very nice job! I don't have any curtains in the log house because we are up on a hill and I want the view. We don't have any privacy issues, so do t need them. I'm sure the next people will have curtains though, as most people do. I'll definitely need some at the ranch because we are closer to the road.

I finished the curtains on the 3 windows. No one really sells curtains anymore.... So I had to make my own. I was looking for a short blue/grey valance for the kitchen bay window and I only wanted it about 12-13 inches long and pretty polished ,no ruffles etc . I found a panel I liked and knew It would work I had to piece a part as I needed 78 inches across. The bathroom window I wanted kinda sheer and they are not typical lengths so I found another panel I liked and made both sets out of the one. all came out great!

taller bathroom window

shorter bathroom window

kitchen bay window , i didn't want ruffles and just a plain polished material I had to piece one side for the length

My bendover muscles are sore today! I helped load firewood for a few hours yesterday and now I'm feeling it.

Bon voyage, Barb! I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures of your camper.

We've had some nice weather for working outside this weekend and the forecast shows sun all week. The kids are moving out to the ranch this week and will officially start occupying it on Friday. Poor DIL has worked herself to a stub with this move and now she gets to clean up after the former occupants--and it's pretty gross. Once she gets the place clean enough to occupy, they'll have to move all of their furniture out of storage, so she'll be moving AGAIN. She'll be ready for a long spa weekend! Yeah, right~

GF, glad you figured out the problem even it it doesn't look all that pretty. Hope the other problem is solved before your chiro visit. Hope your trip is enjoyable and no major issues while you are traveling.
Got my kitchen back into some semblance of order yesterday---dh just piles things on the counter and I had almost no work space left----grrrrrr---but things look a lot better and neater in there now.
Just 14 more days to go to work---yippee!

After a few cool days & rain, our hot weather arrived! Your gardens sound wonderful!

I've worked really hard on installing the folding shelf in the dead space on the passenger side of the back. There are shims everywhere!!! If I were true carpenter, had the right tools and an unlimited budget, I'm sure it would be better but it works and I'm thrilled with it. this morning I finally thought of a solution for the last problem I have. Hopefully it works.

Photos will come tomorrow, hopefully! Lots of cleanup of tools, widgets, etc. I have lots to do before my Chiro appt today. I won't get much done after that.

Departure is Wed, what time I don't know, lol.

Congrats to all on the great progress on gardens, kitchens and fix-its.

Purslane grows as a weed here and gardeners fight it because it does reseed so aggressively.; however, they are edible plants and highly nutritious too. DS1 has picked some to eat but I don't remember whether it went into a salad or was cooked. Congratulations on tackling your front porch.

Porch is all clean for the summer and everything put back into place.
Found my hanging basket---actually bought 2---they are purselane---similar to portulaca but with a broader leaf---they will reseed themselves if you bring them in until they are finished blooming--I bought an orange one and a yellow with a wine colored stripe.
2 different daylilies have bloomed out---one is wine with a yellow center, the other one is a plain wine colored one.
Hosed off the furniture on the deck and the patio and wiped down the glass table tops---everything looking good---did not sweep off the patio---still need to do that----but going to be a hot one today---ac will be back on when I leave for church.

We're off and running this morning. Steve fixed the leaky plumbing and is now figuring out the best way to close the hole but leave an access for later. Then it's back up on the roof to dig into that problem and see how big an issue its going to be.

Terri, how pretty! I did look for that but the prices at that greenhouse were too good to pass on the yellow---and I do love yellow roses. The flower i am looking for is similar to a portulaca but has a bit broader leaf. I can never remember its name----LOL
Chris, great job on what you spent. Always nice to have those gift cards and rebates to buy what you want.
Hope to get out shopping today. Some plants on sale at Lowe's and also a cornhoe game is on sale at Tuesday Morning so I want to go get that. But first I want to take everything off my front porch and hose down the inside because of all the pollen. I have a good stiff broom to use on it that should help me get all the pollen taken care of.

Cathy, what is the specific flower that you're looking for for that hanging pot? I thought about hanging my macrame hangers out with petunias planted again, but haven't decided. If we were closer to being ready to show the house, I'd do it; however, right now, its just one more thing to take care of. Besides, it's been pretty cold here lately with these storms. We haven't really had any hot weather here yet.

Chris, were the flowers on sale or did you not need as many this year?
Terri, you are lucky to have so many and so close.
I got more of my front porch cleaned yesterday---have to watch how much I do with all that pollen out there. I just might take the hose to the porch this weekend if dh helps me move the furniture outside. I also want to hose off the back deck and clean the patio area of debris. Have bulbs to plant too. Might do a bit of retail shopping and look for at least one plant that I want for one pot. HOpe I can find the hanging basket of one kind of flower that I want---then I will transplant it to a pot.

You must not have been too sore, then. I often have some trouble sleeping after a hard day of gardening.

I had DS2'S 4 kids here yesterday--3 boys and a girl--which led to inviting the other 3 boy cousins over to play. I love that these grands are all such good friends.

Chris, congrats on the rebate check---hope you find lots of flowers on sale and that it only warms up a bit. Unfortunately, I am going to have summer temps this weekend----Sunday is supposed to hit 90--yuck!
We had a really pleasant day yesterday, but heating up today---i prefer the 75 days!
Daylilies should start popping open this weekend---several are showing color so I know they will bloom soon.

Chris, he was probably fussing at his reflection , thinking it was another male invading his territory. Crazy bird! Glad you got to enjoy the show. did you catch up on your paperwork?
GF, hope you get the answers you need before you leave. Weather is being a bit unpredictable this year. Hope it behaves for you in your travels.
Terri, Hope Steve can fix that leak---sunlights are nortorious for that---esp. the older kind that you probably have.
I planted all the things I bought on Monday and the 2 geraniums that I got for Mother's Day. Now I need to hunt for something to plant in my big planter and a hanging pot of one kind of flower that I love to fill another pot. Maybe a trip to Lowe's this weekend.

Wow, that tornado was far too close for comfort. I was watching them on the news tonight as well as the terrible flooding. Those poor people. I think tornados are far scarier than the forest fires.
Your garden is going to look amazing! Sit, relax and enjoy it.

Chris, the oriole must have been very entertaining. Terri, there never seems to be time for those nagging fixes but best that they be done in time for you to enjoy them. I'm trying to get mine done so I don't have to think about them anymore.

The tax amount won't be known until mid June. I will have to pay them online as well as claim my Home Owners Grant but I want to talk to the Dept at City Hall to make sure there isn't something I don't know about.

I keep plugging away at stuff but there seems to be far too much given I have a week left. I basically have to duplicate my household in miniature. I just finished going through the keys and put new batteries in the auto fobs (4 of them!).

I have a whole collection of memory foam and silicone inserts to make my shoes comfortable. My family all have terrible feet.

So this morning I had a crazy Oriole trying to get into the house for about 40 minutes! It was pretty cute he'd land on the bottom of the window of the french door, then go to the handle and peek around the window, sit on the bench or the table right by the window. He was pretty cute about it and yelling at me the whole time!

caught him just as he was flying off the table! it was pretty amusing, made me smile.

Glad everyone is getting there projects done. I am taking it easy, cleaning up from the party and now have to sort through all the paperwork that I let pile up during this project.

I want to post some finished pictures soon, and will do so when the sun finally get here. I HAD to turn the heat back on this morning! It is almost June for pete's sake!

Barb, its those little nagging projects that seem to be put on the back burner around here and now that we want to sell this house, have to be taken care of. I hope you'll be able to figure out your property taxes before you leave. I pay most things over the internet, too.

I'm glad the pool helped with your knees, Cathy. Did you find some shoes for dh? I have a pair of SAS walking shoes that are comfy, but they sure aren't anything to look at. With my bum feet, I guess pretty shoes are a thing of the past.

Living where I do has its advantages--and disadvantages, too. We generally have mild winters and decent rain fall when needed. But our summers are becoming way too hot and humid. We rarely get destructive storms----did have a tornado about 45 minutes from us a few weeks ago---that was a first for the area---and we do get the tail ends of hurricanes---but for them you can plan ahead and be prepared.
Carol, hope that bathroom gets done soon and you can relax and enjoy all your new changes.
Terri, did you get things moved around there?
GF, glad you got the nagging things done. Hope they will give you the amount for your taxes so you can go ahead and pay them before you leave.
I did buy a few more plants yesterday---a yellow climbing rose bush and some blue flowers. Now I need to plant them. Also found a metal windmill to put in the middlo of my circle flower bed. We enjoyed our dinner at Cracker Barrel and got home just in time to unload the truck and get ready to go to the pool. Boy, did I need the pool after Saturday's workout---my knees even hurt while in the pool but that seems to have helped as they aren't so bad today. I am very thankful for biofreeze in relieving the pain for me.

Happy Anniversary Cathy! My Mom wore SAS shoes too. Sounds like your garden has gotten off to a great start.

Chris I think people underestimate the amount of work involved in renovations. After the excitement of planning and seeing the big stuff completed, it's all the little stuff that seems to be never ending. That's a lovely pic of your Mom.

Speaking of litte stuff, I got a lot of old nagging jobs done yesterday. I was awake at 5am. By 11:30am, I felt like I had been up a whole day but it sure was productive.

I'm counting down the days and all the things to be done. The other day, I realized my property taxes are due while I'm away. I won't even know how much they are before I leave. thank goodness for the internet. I need to make a to visit City Hall.

Terri, moving is such a lot of work and deadlines too.

I'm glad it was a nice day for her birthday, Chris.

We worked at son's house today and helped take down some stock panels and load them on a trailer to transport out to the ranch.

you are all ahead of me in the garden! Mine is a mess and still to wet to work in.... grrr at least the hose is now cleaned. All that is left is the bathroom and getting plumber there to relace the trap and new faucet. Then get walls primed and painted them a nice cleaning and clear out the medicine cabinet, don't realize all the old stuff in there!

Weather was very nice for Moms' birthday so glad people were in and out and it was nice and breezy.

Cathy you are way ahead of me with the garden this year. Mine isn't even in the ground yet.

I didn't do anything productive yesterday, but today will be busy. We're going to go out to the ranch with a load for the kids and will offer to bring a load out for the folks that are moving out. They live on the coast and we will be going out soon, if not later today. I've been waking up since 4:30 and finally got up at 5:00. That's more my usual time than the last two days of 8:30 and 9:00.

Terri, I needed to get them all planted as I lost a couple from being in the pots too long and some that I planted I am not sure if they will make it, but there was a lot of good ones still, too. I need to think of perennials for some of those beds as it is getting harder to plant each year.
GF, souinds like a good deal on your shoes ---you will need a good pair of hikers for your trip.
Didn't do much of anything yesterday--allergies giving me fits but starting to feel better muscle wise---just not the knees---they are still protesting all that bending.
I took today off since it is our anniversary today---41 years-----we are going to drive to Rehobeth to go to Cracker Barrel and to go to the SAS shoe store----DH needs a new pair of shoes from there---they are really good shoes and also very expensive----but we just got back the tax money so now is a good time to buy them.
Have blossoms on the cantalope plant and squash are growing. I think the cucumbers will soon have babies starting too.

Carol, your beds look great! You must be really pleased.

Cathy, that is a lot of vinca! I hope you are recovering well.

Terri, you're probably recovering from the long drive back and all that work you did while down there. Our bodies tell what we need. But I agree, I miss my early mornings when I have those days that I sleep in.

I did major laundry today. 4 loads plus 3 handwash loads. Because all my clothes are natural fabrics they need extra care in the laundry. Then I did some errands and shopping. I found 2 pairs of shoes/runners at Winners, one for summer and the other for winter, more like a light hiking shoe.
I see sales on groceries but need to calculate how much fresh stuff I need or will use before I leave.

Carol, I had the same problem with photos taken from my phone. I've learned that I have to hold the phone horizontally when I take photos to post here. It doesn't seem to matter which way I hold it if I'm posting them on FB, but SP likes them wide.

Cathy, I'm sorry you're so sore but glad you got them all in the ground. With a little rain, they'll settle in and be off to a good start. My seedlings are getting tall and I'm going to have to transplant soon.

I slept late again this morning, but we stayed up late last night watching some Netflix. I got up at 5:30 to let Rosie out and went back to bed. I didn't even hear Steve get up and slept until 8:30. I would rather wake up early, but I love being able to sleep until I'm rested.

Terri, thanks for the advice. I will look to see what we find. If I buy one I want to buy local and not order one.
GF, good idea to be in top shape for that trip. I am waiting to get my hip shots until closer to going up to PA as it makes it easier on the drive.
Carol, your beds look lovely. Lots of work done. Congrats. That plant sounds interesting.
i have one rose bush that starts out as bright orange buds then opens to a lovely apricot color.
My friend came to help me so I got 70 vinca planted yesterday into 5 beds and then mulched. I was so sore yesterday afternoon. Needed lots of meds. I wouldn't have gotten it all done if he had not helped me as knees were giving me fits from the very start. We had some rain last night which is nice as that means I don't have to go out and water today.

I love the sounds of that Joseph's Coat rose! When my mom was alive I had bought her one that was yellow when it was a bud but by full bloom was pink. I love when you get more than one color!

Barb, it's almost time! You must be so excited!

After a couple of weekends of prep we planted our garden today. It's always a challenge making new gardening areas!

The trellis my husband made for cucumbers.

Front flower bed. The shrub is a lilac that will be maroon with white outlines. My dad bought it as a memorial for Mike.

I can't seem to figure out how to load the pictures the right way. Sorry.

That sounds like a very pretty rose.

We had heavy rain for one day, then lighter. It really helped with the wild fires. The worst one was caused by a motor home towing a vehicle with it's brakes locked. No accounting for stupid. A shocking statistic for out province on the news last night. Of 176 wild fires since Apr, 152 were human caused.

My friends won't be coming to stay at my place while I'm away. That makes things much simpler. Expected departure date is now May 27th or 28th at the latest. I made another chiro appt for May 27th just so I'm in the best shape possible when I leave.

I spent more than an hour this morning trying on jeans and pants since I've lost 12 lbs since mid Jan. I will only take what fits now or is a little tight since I always lose weight on the road. Three months is like packing for an expedition and all kinds of weather, hot, cold, wet & dry.

Now I'm starting to get excited. At Guild, a friend gave me lots of tips for must see places in the east.

I have a climbing rose called, Joseph's Coat that I think you'd like, Cathy. It's very hardy and the colors range from orange to coral to pink as the flower opens. It's good that you might have some help with your gardening. Have fun. It's raining here and I just got home last night, so I won't be doing anything outside.

Chris, hope it dries up soon for you. Weeds sure can grow fast, esp. if it rain.
Terri, they have gotten a lot done and so have you.
Dh finished the other trellis he made and put it up before I got home. I said it would be nice now to have a climbing rose since the trellis is so tall---so I think we will go looking for one soon.
Planting my vinca today---but first have to trim back the dead parts of the tulips and dig up the winter pansies. My co-worker that lives near by is coming to help me out so hoping I won't be as sore as I have in the past. I also have the 2 orange geraniums to get into pots today.

I am glad the house is clean, got rid of some stuff from when I was working that I don't need any more.
My garden is a mess, with all the rain we have been having even trying to get some things done would be a messy job, to muddy to even think about getting in there. Still have cleanup to do to the big bed. Got the back and some side done when we first cut the grass, so I have my work cut out for me outside also!

I know you kind of hope for not too much so the grass doesn't grow too quickly once you go home. but I hope California finally gets decent rain fall this year.
Dh built a trellis for one side of our rose bushes---much sturdier than the ones you buy---but I think a bit too tall---now I want a climbing rose to put on the other side of it to climb it---it would be perfect for that. He now is going to build a wider one for the back side of them to help support them---they are both in bloom and smell so good. Also, one of my day lilies has 2 bright yellow blooms on it---looks lovely---the rest will start blooming so every day I have to walk around to see if anything else is in bloom.
Went to the Dollar Tree last night and got some colorful spinners to place in the hosta beds to give them some color--cute ones with polka dots on them. Also found some nice picks with Red, White and Blue stars to put out front in those flower beds for the summer.

Its still raining and it's a good one. The creek is up a few inches and the water is brown, so that means there's been some runoff. This will green things up a bit, but I suspect it will be our last rain for a while.

I hope you have a clear day for your party, Chris.

Chris, working in the gardens is definitely more fun than cleaning house----LOL Wow to having a nice clean house for the event.
Nice picture of the lake, even if taken thru the window.
Warming up today---think I can leave my vinca out of my car today. My car smells like a greenhouse---LOL

We got the last pile burned this evening and it was down to the point where we could push it all to the center to finish burning inside a wide perimeter when it began to really rain. It was dark by then, so I had to be careful coming back down to the house so as not to tweak my knee, but it felt good to get it all done and not leave anything. By the time I come back down here, the grass will be dry and it won't be safe to burn. The rain won't put it out, but won't allow it to go anywhere which is just what I wanted.

Tomorrow we're going to rest!!

We finally had some rain last night but today was beautiful when I drove to my appt in the city an hour north. I took a quick photo of the lake through the windshield so it's a distorted. Wished I could have stopped and taken more. Tomorrow is my last day at the Spinners & Weavers Guild before my trip. I'm having a terrible time with my keyboards. I've tried 2 so far. I think it's time for a new one. There is a cordless keyboard & mouse on sale but the mice are too big for my hands.

The boys and I safely burned six piles last night as the clouds were rolling in. I called the number to see if it was a permissible burn day and when I learned that it was, we went for it. We got all but one pile and we may do that one today since it's not raining hard yet.

Forest fires are scary. We can be so destructive with fire. Sad to lose all those trees and forests, which provide homes to so many creatures.
Too chilly here now, but the weekend will be too hot---sigh

Being from California, my heart goes out to you regarding the forest fires. We get them by lightening strikes in August, historically; however, the latest ones have all been man-made in one way or another.

Cathy, The photos are from 2011 when I purchased the van new after getting tired of being a pretzel in my small Forester Subaru (the 2004 model). It's changed a lot since then but still no power, water tank or propane. It's affordable and gives me lots of flexibility.

It's so dry here. We've had 29% of normal rainfall in the last 3 months. Forest fires already happening, all manmade.

Chris, I don't cook in inside, I'm allergic to petrochemicals. Think of it as a hard topped tent the size of a compact car. I's classed as cargo van. I did it all at minimum cost: sales, 2nd hand, thrift, salvage, etc. and maintaining minimum weight (gas conservation and power). It's only a 2 L engine. As to your other questions, check out my Spark Page and Photos. It's also n the family genes.

This was the inside when I bought it.

I filled the channels with the right thickness of mat to make it level, then laid down the styrofoam to protect the vinyl from scratches from 1/8th in wood wall panel floor, then the indoor outdoor carpet which I ran up the sides for some insulation.

This was with floor and bed done. The bed is 70in long. I later added a bit to the legs for more clearance.

I change things as I come up with new ideas or find something that works. I'll post photos next week when the latest changes are done.
