You're not kidding about it being a wild race! Apparently we're going to see 5 or more really big wrecks at all the large track races this year unless some of these bozos learn how to drive soon. emoticon

But all in all, it really was a pretty exciting race. I had to give it up after they started cleaning up the fire retardant with Tide and spraying the Tide off of the track. That was about 9:30 in my time zone and I have to get up at 3:00 in the morning if I want to get to work on time. I tried not to hear who won on Fox and Friends at 4:10, but I was not successful. (Wanted to watch the highlights on Nascar.com and be surprised. Oh well.) Kenseth is a driver I like and I'm not at all unhappy about the fact that he won. Just wish Jeff Gordon could have been a factor, but there's always next week.

There was much rejoicing!

If the race last night was any indication of how the season will be, it will be a wild one! All I can say is wow! It was definitely the most bizarre race I've ever seen. I stayed up to watch the whole thing and now I am dragging. Glad I watched the whole thing, but I sure am tired. I think it will be nap time for me when I get home.

Wow what a wild night it turned out to be. I was glad Montoya and the truck driver was ok. I was glad they were able to finish the race and emoticon way to go Jr. Would have been even better if he won. But a 2nd place finish will work. I am dragging this morning. Hope I make it through 10 hrs of work.

I have always been an "early to bed" person.... and I just could not stay awake for the whole thing! I made it till 11:00... but they hadn't even cleaned up the track... and weren't even sure there wasn't track damage from that bizzare wreck! (I'm so glad Montoya AND the truck driver both walked away from that! It could have been MUCH worse!)
What a way to start the season!!!

I had to go to bed before the end because it was just too late when I have to get up at 5:30 a.m. I guess I missed all the excitement :(

I really hope they get the race in this evening because I'm definitely hoping NOT to be sick enough tomorrow to stay home and watch it. I hope we'll get at least a couple of races this year that aren't rain delayed...

I, too, had invited my daughter and her family over to watch the race... but she had to go out of town (business), and my SIL really had some chores he needed to do... so with the race postponed, it worked out just as well. The weather forecasters are predicting rain this morning... and perhaps clearing this afternoon. We may see "racing under the lights" after all!!!

Well I did end up calling in sick to work tomorrow...and not just to watch this race, either. I've been barfing and having diarrhea since about lunch time so I'm going to sleep late tomorrow morning and then watch the race if they actually get it in. I never enjoy being sick enough to have to stay home, but if they actually get this race in tomorrow at least being sick at home shouldn't be as bad as it would otherwise.

There was much rejoicing!

I won't be able to see it tomorrow either and no use DVR because then I will already know who won. Hopefully it will not be finished when I get home a little after 4:00 pm.

It's okay, I didn't get to watch half of the races last year because of rain and not having a recording device hooked up to either of my TV's. Based on my experiences last year, it would be entirely appropriate not to get to watch a single darn race this year because of rain, too. I seriously doubt we're going to see any racing today. emoticon

Yeah, me too. If they don't get the race in today I'll have to consider coming down with a 24 hour flu so that i don't have to go to work tomorrow. They did the anthem, which was cool (I love Pat Monahan) and they keep on talking like they're going to get the race in today, but I'm still kind of skeptical...

No kidding! Seeing a wreck like that kind of helps you understand why Gordon says that he has to be a lot more careful about how aggressively he races now that he's got kids. Thank goodness they've got all of those safety innovations to protect the drivers these days.

Not the first time Knaus has been busted for this kind of thing...but he's hardly he only one doing it, just one of the few who are unlucky enough to get caught. Everyone's trying to find some way to get an advantage for their team and that's a part of what makes NASCAR fun to watch. We're finally going to get some racing again, even if it's not points racing this weekend. Gentlemen, start your engines!! emoticon emoticon

Watching the Bud Shootout picks right now. Love watching them. Good to catch up on all the gossip from the guys.

Audience was boo-ing Kyle Busch. Kenny Wallace told them not to, as Kyle loves it. Kyle said, "Haters are motivators." Good one!

Bud Shootout tomorrow!

I am really ready for the racing and I love all of it. Go Jr. and hope he has a good year. Watch the Sprint, Nationwide and Truck every year. I really get into it and when my husband was alive he thought I was going to have a heart attack how I am at the last couple of laps. Love it.

Saw this online, dated 2/7/12. Time will tell if these changes will help with the race.

emoticon emoticon

France said the two-car tandem racing "evolved into something that no one saw coming, and now we're going to deal with that."

NASCAR's vice president of competition Robin Pemberton said some changes will be made to the cars including adding a slightly larger restrictor plate, a smaller spoiler and softer springs.

Those changes will be made beginning at Daytona next month.

"All of these combinations will help the qualifying be more exciting," said Pemberton. "... The changes we made in the cooling system and the aero package we believe will aid in getting back to the more traditional style pack drafting that we've come to expect at Daytona and Talladega."

"We know that the fans want to see more of the traditional style pack drafting, and so do we," said Pemberton. "We won't be able to totally eliminate the two car push. It will be a valuable tool that the teams will be able to use from time to time. However, we do believe that we've come up with a rules package that will help it be the exception rather than the norm."

emoticon
And -
NASCAR did make some changes off the track this week. They announced Wednesday they'll make all fines public in the future, a change from past years where they were kept secret.

I went to Bristol for my 21st birthday (a few years back). It was awesome and I'd love to go there again. It's a place you actually want in the nosebleed section. As for Daytona, I am so bummed it's not the 3rd weekend in February. I have a four day weekend for work the weekend of the 17th and my parents are doing the snowbird thing in Florida. It would have worked out perfectly to go see the race. Oh well, maybe some other year. I will definitely be in front of the tv though! Can't wait! I've been going through racing withdrawal!

I have season tix to Kansas (love that we have 2 races now), and before that I had tix to Texas... so I've been able to see a live race at least once a year for at least 7 yrs now.

My son is living in Orlando working for Disney now, and we are planning to get down for part of the Speedweeks festivities next year... just couldn't swing it this year.

I can not wait for the race excitement to start. I have never been to the Daytona 500. I have been by the race track when I was on my way to Disney. I have only been to Bristol races and won tickets to a Richmond race a few years ago. Even got pit passes. That was the best. I have also been to the All-star race a few years ago in Charlotte.

Someday soon, I'm hoping to make it to another NASCAR race and I really don't care where, except for the road course, those races are my least favorite and I know I won't care to spend my hard earned money on one of those. Thank goodness there are only a few of those each year.

Live each day to the fullest!

Super Bowl may be this weekend, but it can't beat the excitement that I feel for the Daytona 500. I'm counting down the days until Speedweek & the Budweiser Shoot out. I loved going to the Talladega spring races for 4 years in a row, but Daytona & the Brickyard are two of the things that are on my bucket list. emoticon

I won a trip to the Texas race in the late 90s, and that's the only NASCAR race I've ever been able to see live. I'd love to be able to go to the Daytona 500 but apparently it's not in my near future so I'll just have to watch it on TV again this year. Startin' to get excited for it now... emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

My husband and children went to the Daytona 500 in 2008 (50th year), that was my first and only NASCAR race. Would love to go to more, but at this time in our lives it is not feasible. It was a awesome experience. Someday we plan to go to another NASCAR race.

Live each day to the fullest!

One of these years I will plan my winter vacation for this. Right now I still love being pampered and going for my cruise on the first week of February :)

I cannot WAIT for the Duels and the shootout . . . AND the Daytona 500!

I'm hoping to at least hit the Duels next year, if not more...

Just going to Daytona would be a dream come true for me! What a great way to start the season!

I wish I had the money to do this:

I like the Daytona date of Sunday, February 26th. I would go to the Duel on Feb 23rd. Use the 24th to rest / go to Disney. Participate in the Disney Royal Family 5K on Saturday morning, the 25th and get a finisher medal. And then wrap it up on the 26th with Daytona.

That would be my fantasy long weekend!

This race just can't come fast enough, I was disappointed that they changed the date towards the end of the month instead of keeping it the 3rd weekend of the month.
