NASCAR races are fun, no matter where they are :-) I just returned from Las Vegas. I have attended all but two of the Las Vegas races since they started having them there in 1997. It is so much fun to see over 100,000 people decked out in their favorite drivers' gear.

I've mostly only been to west coast races, Fontana and Vegas, but traffic in and out are always huge, and any time you can do a tailgate party before or after the event is a good thing. Gives you time to wait out traffic.

Wear some sort of ear protection, it's really awesome to hear the cars but after an hour, I got a headache the first time.

If you can, get one of the race radios. They're really fun, and you can hear the drivers! Lets you know what's going on before anyone else if there's a caution you can't see.

if it's sunny, wear a hat/sunglasses and sunscreen, and remember to stay hydrated. If it's cold, wear layers, and remember to stay hydrated!

Great advice guys, thanks!!!

My husband used to race UMP modified cars so I'm familiar with spending time at a track only on a much smaller scale...lol

I'll have to check on the camping thing, we do have a camper but not sure it's worth the haul to Martinsville for us. Would cost a ton in fuel... choices, choices, choices...

I have been to Atlanta, Talladega and Bristol. Wear comfortable shoes. If you get a pit pass, make sure to look at the tracks website for type of attire that is required to be in the pits. You will definitely need some sort of cushion to sit on. Aluminum bleachers are quite uncomfortable after awhile. Also, get some sort of scanner, you can buy or rent at the track. Try to avoid the middle seats if you can. It's a pain when you need to use the bathroom or want a snack to climb over everyone. The higher you sit the better the view. Hope you make it to Martinsville! Have a great time and happy birthday!

I forgot to add, that if I went to Martinsville again, I would take a grill and just have an after race tailgate party to let the traffic go down. Camping would be a good idea too.

Definitely GO! The first race is always the best!

I have only been to MIS and Bristol and we camp when we go, so we make a mini-vacation out of the nascar races. I would definitely check out the website of the track so that you know ahead of time what to bring and what not to bring. Some tracks won't let you take in hard sided coolers, umbrellas, etc. Some also have size limits on coolers, so know that ahead of time. I highly suggest you bring snacks and drinks. There are plenty to choose from at the track, but they obviously are more expensive.

Get there early! You'll be able to shop the vendor areas and soak in all the fan activities before hand. Also be prepared to be stuck in traffic if you are leaving that afternoon.

Bring lots of sunscreen too! Also if you have race scanners print of a schedule before you go and have it programmed so you aren't wasting time in the stands trying to find frequencies. Also, take a seating pad if you have one. The stands can get hard after a few hours. And don't forget a rain shawl if rain is a possibility. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Since you have the extra time off, you really should consider camping at the track for a least a couple of days. I love camping at the track more than I like going to the race. It's an experience you will never forget. Have fun!!!

I have actually been to Martinsville. I sat on the 5th row from the bottom and could see all around the track. The higher up you go the better you can see, this is true at any track, but some tracks you can't see the back stretch when your down low. I recomend getting a motel really early. I waited until two weeks before and had to get a motel 90 miles away. Also be sure to get there early because the traffic backs up to get in. There is a lot to look at at the track. Be patient when leaving, Martinsville is the worst track I have been to to get out of. There are just no major highways around there. It might take 1.5 or 2 hours to get out to the road.

Ok, I'm trying to talk my husband in to taking me to a race for my birthday. We were looking today at maybe Martinsville since it's his weekend off and the kids spring break. I've never been to a cup race and really want to go!!! Tips? Suggestions?
