That is what I thought about the seasonal flu shot but will go with what the doc said. Sure he would have given me one if he thought it was okay. He is always checking on what I need. Have used him for over 20 years now. One good thing the med he gave me has stopped the pain right now. I just want to be careful and not have the shingles spread any.

Actually, the regular seasonal flu shot should not make you sick at all because the virus used in that shot is a dead virus. HOWEVER....the virus used in the H1N1 shot is a live virus, so you could potentially catch the H1N1 strain of influenza if you get that vacccination. I have no idea whether or not a person who already has a viral infection should get either of those flu shots, but I'd go with whatever your doctor tells you because he went to doctor school and I only went to lab tech school.

There was much rejoicing!

I had chicken pox as a child. All 3 of my children also had it. I am 78 and they say once you have chicken pox the shingles can show up at any time. One good thing is the one med has already stopped some of the pain.

The bad thing is I cant take the flu shot as Shingles is a virus and the flu shot would give you a severe case of the flu.

My dad and my friend's husband both had shingles while they were undergoing chemotherapy. I'm sure that some antiviral medication was used to treat both of them because shingles is caused by the varicella zoster virus, which is the same one that causes chicken pox. I honestly do not know which antiviral was used to treat either man.

You're definitely doing the right things to keep from spreading this virus. Bleach will kill viruses and keeping the areas of your body that have the shingles covered is the best way to keep from trasmitting it to other people. I hope this clears up for you quickly because I understand that shingles can be very painful. (I had chicken pox as a child, but thankfully I have never had shingles.)

There was much rejoicing!

Home from the doc. He took one look at it and said its Shingles and gave me med for that and med for the pain. Yes it hurts and itches also. I have to keep it covered as he said its contageous. Just put my sheets in the wash with lots of bleach.

Any one ever had the shingles before and if so what meds did the doc give you for it?

Do you know for sure that womething bit you, or do you just have a little spot that looks like it must be a bug bite or a spider bite? The reason why I'm asking is that many people who report that they've had a spider bite actually have some kind of small wound that's infected with a bacteria called MRSA, or Mehycillin resistant staph aureus. Almost all of us have the staph aureus bacteria on our skin or in our nasal passages, but MRSA is a form of that bacteria that's resistant to treatment with most antibiotics and can cause huge problems for a person. If it gets into your blood stream it can actually kill you.

So anyway, it's a very good thing that you're going to have your doctor look at this bite, or whatever it is. if you're prescribed antibiotics to deal with it, please be sure to take ALL of them. A lot of people will take prescribed antibiotics until they start to feel better, or until their "bite" seems to be healing, and then stop taking them before they've finished all of what was prescribed. This habit is what is causing so many bacteria to be resistant to so many antibiotics, so never do it emoticon

One way or the other, I hope everything goes well for you at the doctor's office and that s/he gives you a clean bill of health. emoticon
