Sounds like lots of us have had bad experiences with credit cards. I just got upset with the latest way they started charging fees. Paying them off but closed them out.

I understand. I hear CITI is the worst, so I may get rid of that one but keep the Master card only. I got into trouble with them through book clubs such as Crossings or Double Day, and in those days, it was 8 track tape clubs..Columbia House. I stay away from those temptations today.I just can't deal with stuff like that. It's too easy to charge it.

I abused a couple of credit cards when I was in college and got myself a pretty bad credit rating. So I went to a lot of effort to pay them both off and then didn't have a credit card at all for about 15 years. Then my dad was treated for cancer, which came back within a couple of years. When his cancer came back I started thinking that I should have a credit card in case I ever needed to buy a plane ticket to Arizona really fast because Daddy was dying or something like that. I had a heck of a time getting any credit card at all because after 15 years I didn't have a bad credit rating anymore....I had no credit history at all any longer. emoticon

Sooo....I started buying something small every month with my credit card (once I finally got one) and paying it off every month. Now I have a halfway decent credit rating, but now the credit card companies charge you fees even when you pay your balance in full before they send you a bill. Doggone it, you just can't win with credit cards, that's the lesson for today. (And I'll be very happy to get our cards paid off again....)

I'm so sorry about both of your cars needing so much in the tire department. At least you had the cards to use as it was an emergency event when you don't have the cash but trying to pay them off is the difficult part with all those darn fees now.I used to be in debt up to my ears with those cards when I was depressed and would buy things to feel better. Of course that didn't really help long term. But now I am debt free and hope to stay that way..but one never knows what is going to happen. We are both on SS and live on a budget with some money put away for emergencies. We just pray neither one of us ever has a catastrophic illness even though we both have Medicare.

Wow yes you did have to put out a lot of money. Glad you had credit cards. I gave all mine up a couple of years ago. Social Security does not pay that great but didnt want those terrible fees they wanted to start charging me. I just have to feel that someone will be able to help me in my family. Maybe one of them will win the lottery. LOL

Oh Shirley, I feel for you. About a month ago I got a flat tire. When I took the car to a tire store thinking that I'd just have to replace two tires, a guy there showed me that there really wasn't enough tread left for any of the tires on my new used Volvo to be safe for much longer, so I ended up having to replace all 4 and ended up spending about $500. That's what I get for leaving work early. emoticon

Then like that's not bad enough, my husband's car (a PT Cruiser that my parents gave us when they needed to buy a new off road vehicle) needed new rear tires. I honestly can't remember how he found out about that, maybe something they noticed when he went for an oil change? I can't remember. Anyway, we ended up spending $700 because what he really needed was 4 tires and an alignment, which turned out not to be just the easy kind of alignment. emoticon

Needless to say, both of us have charged up our credit cards to an unacceptable extent, and we will both be getting our tires rotated with every dang oil change from now on.

Oh yes they sure are a necessity. Being without a car for a month and a half was so hard but it might be longer this time. I will make due. Not going to let it get me down. doc appts are the hard things. This is only a 98 Mercury Mystic but its really in good shape except for the transmission trouble. It can sit for a while. Will check a few other places about having it fixed. Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm sorry the repair will be expensive. Cars are a necessity but an expensive on. I am fortunate my hubby and a friend can do a lot of our work, but we did take the truck in for a good check up last year and got new shocks, etc. But like you said it's worth it in the long run. We have always ha d second hand cars and never had car payments because we're happy to have an older one. Our truck was rebuilt after an accident ( not ours) but the ins. co had totaled it. It didn't need to be totaled and the man who bought it rebuilds them as his business. It's like a brand new truck really. It's a 2001 Toyota Tacoma.

Good morning to all.

Oh I do hope everyone is having a better day than me. Just got the news its going to really cost a lot to fix my car. It will have to wait as while. but it would be worth it in the long run.

Hope your day is better. Any special plans for today? I do have to go to Walmart grocery shopping. My daughter will have to take me. This way I will get my walking in for the day.
