I was watching Gordon and Shrub racing each other really hard, and I said out loud "they're gonna crash." (Said it to myself since my hubby was out of the country at the time.) And what do you know? About 2 minutes later, that's exactly what they did. It was still a really great race and it was a lot of fun to watch.....even if Jeff did crash out of it and didn't win the million bucks.....

There was much rejoicing!

Sorry I wasnt here to see the race. I was out of town. But I was happy to see Mark Martin win for a change. I keep hoping that Jr can get things going but dumb things keep happening.

Great race!!! I was ok with MM winning and glad to see all my drivers finish so well...Jeff, Tony, Jimmy, well, except for Jr...I just don't know what to think about that team anymore...sure wish they could turn their season around. Also very happy to see my favorite driver to hate go behind the wall.. emoticon ...sorry about your tires Shrub....not! LOL...

Thanks to Bobbi for starting the thread and to Kat for sending out the notices. Remember I will need someone to do the same thing again for the 600 in 2 weeks.

Well my preference is always to see the 24 car win, but I'd be more than happy to see Logano win, too. I'm not particularly attached to Tony Stewart, one way or the other, so I'd be okay with Logano winning in the 20 car. I always like to see new winners when I can't see Jeff win, which is most of the time over the last couple of years. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

I'm all for new drivers winning. But I have a hard time cheering for the 20 car now. LOL Stewart has to win before Lagano.

I would think he would tell the people when he is having a drug test what he is taking. I was surprised when I heard it, I hope it all gets straightened out.

It was a good race. Martin has won enough now, let someone else have a turn. LOL Like Stewart.

I guess I should explain myself a little further here. I work in a medical laboratory and I do some of the same kind of testing that Mayfield failed. The drug tests that we do at our hospital don't give false positive results for very many things, and I'm sure that the company NASCAR uses for this testing uses test methods that are at least as good as the ones we use.

As I said previously, I can see Sudafed or its generic versions causing a false positive result on the test for amphetamines, and there are a few psychoactive drugs (which are all prescribed) which can cause false positive restuls. Also, codeine (which is in many prescription cough medications) can cause a positive result.

But from what I've read, NASCAR does a baseline drug test at the beginning of the season and all competitors are required to tell NASCAR about the medications they take. So all in all, it seems unlikely to me that any combination of prescribed and over the counter medications could have caused a false positive on a drug test that NASCAR would not have been prepared to see happen.

As much as I would like for an innocent explanation to be found for this, I think that there's more going on here than what Mayfield is telling us. And I think that it's very sad.

There was much rejoicing!

Well if it really was a prescribed drug and an OTC drug, then I would think that NASCAR would reinstate him. But from what I read, this was the second drug test that Mayfield has failed so I would think that he's already had his chance to plead his case if that were really true. I guess it's possible that he could have taken Sudafed, which could have caused him to fail a urine drug test for amphetamines but again, he had his chance to plead that case after he failed the first of the two drug tests that he failed. It's just all very strange, and I hate to hear things like this from my favorite sport. Now with baseball players, well I'm not surprised when they get into this kind of trouble anymore, but to me NASCAR is different. Maybe I'm just living in a dream world..... emoticon emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

According to what I found out. The reason for his failed drug test was an interaction with a medication his doctor had given him and then Mayfield taking an over-the-counter drug. He said that he and his doctor are talking with NASCAR officials in his case. He didn't mention anything about the others. Makes one wonder, doesn't it?

I'm finally geting over the illness I've been fighting since last weekend, and so I was actually able to stay awake to watch the whole race today. emoticon It was a really great race and I was pretty happy with the finish. Martin isn't one of my very favorite drivers, but he's a good driver and a clean racer so I'm not at all unhappy that he won. (And I hope I'm doing as well with my own career when I'm 50 years old...) It was one heck of a race with plenty of ups and downs, that's for sure.

On another note, I'm wondering what the heck is up with Jeremy Mayfield and the two crew members who were suspended indefinitely for failing drug tests. Good gravy! Life as one of the top NASCAR drivers isn't enough to keep you occupied and off of drugs? I feel really sorry for these guys and I've been praying for them all evening. It's just crazy news to hear out of a sport that's generally thought of as being really wholesome and family friendly.

There was much rejoicing!

Jr. wrecked twice and he is not going to make the chase if he doesn't win soon. He just isn't having any luck this year.

As far as bet goes NO WAY and say I was shouting. This place is not a wreck fest, they have a lot of one car wrecks.

Sorry Kat. Nope, no rain. But look at Jeff he is only 6 points behind Stewart and there is still some good racing left. I bet Jan is bouncing up and down. Poor Jeff has been up and down all night. At least Jan gets to hear the roar of the engines. I really miss that.

I'm jealous of Jan. This is one of the race tracks I'd really love to be able to go to. The only race I've ever been to watch live was in Texas and the only way I was able to afford it at the time was because I won the trip to see the race. And with that, I'm going to go back in the bedroom to watch the race on TV. emoticon
