It's still dark here (6AM) and I already have my meal plan done and exercise in my calendar. It feels great to be back on track with the scale going in the right direction. Have a Sparkling Beck day all. And thanks for being here.

I started the Oct Reboot, but fell off. I'm starting a fresh with Day 1!

Sandra, I have both Pink and Blue. I really like the Blue book just glancing at it. I haven't read it yet. I almost want to start with that book, but I started with the Pink book and my response cards. I am using it with the workbook that I have on my Kindle. I have Pink and Blue in both hard copy and on Kindle. I had the Green, but the diet plan wasn't good for my diabetes, so I got a refund.

Thanks LDRUCKER8 and POSITIVEHOPE emoticon .

POISITIVEHOPE no indeed...overeating solves no problems...overeating gives me more problems.

Today I received my Beck pink book and the blue book... I previously posted that I ordered the workbook .... then remembered I ordered the blue book instead. I am glad I ordered the blue book too.

Yesterday I read DAY 1... this evening I will write my response cards.

I had a great day with no food issues or cravings.

Have a great evening everyone!

Yes, there is a strong mistaken thinking associated with I'm tired so I need to eat. When I'm tired and use food to try to solve that I overeat and end up in a food coma. Didn't cure tired did it?

Hi, good for you arranging your kitchen so it works for you. I sorted through my Tupperware cabinet, much more organized now, easier to take lunches, etc.

Thank you Financial_mom and Kriszta11!

Today was a good day... I am 99% done re-arranging the kitchen. All of the snacks that my husband had left are stowed away... and I've asked my him to keep cookies and sweets out of the kitchen and somewhere out of my view.

This evening I will read Day 1 in the pink book... yay! Feeling really positive about my re-read of Beck pink.

Wishing everyone a great evening!

FINANCIAL_MOM, congrats to your progress!
I don't have the green book, but it sounds very helpful. I guess information is similar, inly the pink book has a step by step approach.

Sandra, you have handled the situation very smartly,
relieved your tiredness in a healthful way, instead of eating he unplanned sweets - I'm sure it felt a lot better!

I had a good day too, handled the 7-hour drive home well, and I didn't overeat when we arrived home. My Beck skills helped me so much during our trip.

Another good day today.... this evening I had a fleeting thought about eating something sweet while I washed dishes in the kitchen... I had been busy all day and feeling a bit tired.

My thought is that being tired was the issue which brought to mind a sweet which would give a boost to my energy and make my tired feeling go away temporarily. I know that if I were to eat the sweet, I would not be able to stop at one but would eat half of the bag... which would not be good for my health.

I also know that afterwards I would regret eating half a bag of sweets and I would also feel physically ill.

I know that the good reasons for not eating the sweets far outweigh the negatives involved in eating the sweets. The easiest path is to simply not eat the sweet.

I left the balance of the dishes for the morning and now I am sitting down resting... drinking my water with lime.

Today I read chapter 3 of Beck in the pink book.

Have a great evening everyone!

I am using the green book so I hope what I'm doing isn't terrible different. My weight is on a solid downtrend and I hit a new low this morning.

I haven't been able to get past Stage 1 though (checking off doing the ten new behaviors each day). I manage three of them. I hope to get to a point where I can seriously work on the rest of them. I noticed there's a problem solving section for this team and I think I'll head there next.

eta: I've been at this a month and I've lost a pound each week.

Another good day...today I re-arranged my kitchen. All of my husbands snacks are off the counter and behind the cabinet doors. Honestly he needs to eat fruit instead of the snacks just like I am doing...maybe if those snacks are not in sight he will eat the fruit on the counter instead.

Tonight I will read Beck chapter 3 in the pink book.
Have a great evening everyone!

Good day today. I've chosen as part of my re-doing the Beck pink book that I will also be wheat and gluten free. I also will avoid sugar, beef and pork, processed boxed and frozen foods, and use only olive oil and coconut oil.... a food plan based on the dietetics diet.

It has been several days since I've had these foods and I must say I feel better than I have in a long time. Also my usual evening cravings have disappeared. I realize that the cravings may reappear but now I have the Beck tools to use to avoid eating unhealthy junk foods.

I will read chapter 2 this evening.

Have a great weekend!

I have been MIA for a few days now. Let some of life's frustrations get to me and just couldn't concentrate on Beck. That translates to lots of sabotaging thoughts and off plan eating.

I started to return to balance last night and will be using today to clear my head and calm myself down so I can enjoy the upcoming w/e get-away with DD.

Kathleen - it does my heart good to know that there is someone else here doesn't do all of the steps perfect 100% of the time. Thanks for the support!

PositiveHope - I like your approach for coming up with short phrases you can use on the spot and then working out the details of the sabotaging thoughts later. Thanks for the good advice.

So glad you are along for the ride. Beck has many books but the one we are reading is the one with thevPink cover. All the books cover the same techniques. The more I read them the easier it is to find the helpful words when I need then.

I notice that Beck words always direct me in what TO DO not admonish me on what not to do. Keeps things positive in my head.

Checking in. I don't think I'm using the exact same book but I'm sure Beck's principle's are the same.

I'm trying to do my daily checklist of weighing, giving myself credit, planning my meals, exercising, etc.

I've been working on this for weeks making progress but never getting through every single item every day. It's still so helpful. I handed out candy last night and never ate the first piece. That couldn't have happened a year ago.

Yup! That checklist is impressive. Lots of accomplishments there.

I'm still working on my Helpful Thoughs for ALL occasions list. My go to's are NO CHOICE, NO EMERGENCY, I DO CARE and EVERY BITE COUNTS. Those seem to fit most situations for me. Oh, my favorite is giving myself credit. I feel so much better about myself when I make the effort to pat myself on the back. Wish I had learned to do that years ago.

Hey Sue - I have a checklist like this that I reexamine every couple months and have many of the same items in the "still working on it" category. We're getting there!

I am up in weight today but that is because of a late dinner last night.
I am thinking of staying at 102 pounds for the next month and see if this feels better.
I still have the 100-105 range.

My eating behavior could have been better at the Halloween Party last night, but on the plus side I am giving myself credit for using restraint at the buffet table and abstaining from alcohol.

Today is a relaxing day for me - church, yoga, and whatever strikes my fancy. So it will be a good grounding day for me and start me off on the right foot for the upcoming week ahead.

No weight loss this week. I know who to blame! Too many outings that included food out of my control. I have checked my calendar and this coming week is a bit quieter. I will be writing out my food plan when I'm finished here.

Last night was 90% successful. Stating it this way allows me to give myself credit for all the right things that I did for the day. I ate my lunch later in the day so I wouldn't be so hungry when I got to the restaurant. I was satisfied with my meal and even felt full, but * * * . I wrote about the evening in our Reboot but I think I forgot to label my thinking error so I'm going to say it was Overly Positive Fortune Telling and/or Justification. I will appreciate any and all feedback.

Tonight is even a bigger challenge - a Halloween Party! My plan is to bring Stuffed Mushrooms and limit my alcohol intake As a matter of fact, I might not bring alcohol at all. The food is going to be a guessing game, but I can tell you for sure that I will be very surprised if there is anything healthy there to eat. I'll let you know how it went.

Good job on portion control and tracking. Nachos don't have to be your whole dinner. Order a side salad or veggie there or have some before you go so you have a fully satisfying meal.

I have gathered some friends for tonight to celebrate a gal's birthday. She is such a caring person. She is always doing for others. She works above and beyond what any boss should expect. She rarely does anything for herself.

We are all meeting at a restaurant that has the most awesome Nacho Supremes! There is no denying or resisting it. I know this is what I am going to eat tonight. I will be sharing them with my DH and this time I plan on putting my portion on a separate plate so when I'm done, I'm done. I have already done a SP search and found someone's calorie entry that I hope is close. I have added it to my tracker already. I plan to eat the rest of my food for today around tonight's celebration so that I stay within my calorie range.

Thanks for the suggestions Positive. I like the option of looking at similar recipes and taking the middle road.

So far today is going smoothly. I didn't have time to eat breakfast this morning until it was lunch time. Since I technically missed a meal I found myself thinking - I can eat two servings of this hot cereal instead of just the one I had planned. WHAT A MINUTE! I said to myself. THAT ISN'T RIGHT. Your just fooling yourself if you think that. I think this is an example of Self-Deluding Thinking. So glad I caught myself and stuck to the one serving emoticon

Tracking unusual foods can be done in two ways. Track each ingredient of the Turkey burger separately. Go to SP recipes and type in Turkey burger. Look over the recipes for some that sounds like what your friends made. Look at the calorie ranges for 5-10 recipes. Pick a recipe to track that falls in the middle and track it. I like the recipe idea the best. It's not perfect but it's fairly quick and easy. One other thing, I always plan to hit the lower end of my calorie range for days like that. I figure it gives me a couple hundred calories extra in case my "guesses" are off a bit.

I want to take a minute to thank my SP friends for their support, friend adds, and Goodies. We all need support and encouragement and I am thankful for all of you!

Gosh, I think that hiking the AT, even if just a part of it, would be a great adventure! Now all I would have to do is find someone to do it with me. No courage on my own and DH doesn't like to walk let alone hike!

The w/e is done. My weight is stable. I mostly stuck to my plan. Saturday I tracked all of my food except for the Turkey Burger because I had no clue what to enter in my tracker. I did not snack between meals, but I did have to add the unplanned carrots, mini-pretzels, and a few Cheez-Its to my lunch. The one thing about riding around in a motorhome is that you do a lot of sitting so my step count is low.

Sunday I stuck to my plan for breakfast, but again, had no idea how to track the Quiche. During our color tour we stopped at a brewery and, although I did refrained from the unplanned Cheese, Cracker, & Sausage Board that the others indulged in, it was a couple more beers to my list. I did have my dinner planned out, but that changed as the day drew on and I started to wonder what our friends had in their minds about eating. I discovered that they had thought we would stop somewhere to eat so I had to ditch my plan. I did not track any of my food for Sunday as it just all seemed to complicated to me.

With that all said and done. I am glad to arrive at Monday and I am feeling ready for another week emoticon

Hi Roberta, it is great you have done day 1 and 2, and made your response cards!
It is fine if you post here, or on the Reboot thread,
and you can post each day on the dedicated thread in the General Discussion Forum.
Here is a "table of contents" that helps to find the Beck Day threads:

I like it because I can see what others are thinking about that certain day.

Nell, I loved the story of your son's hike. I hope to do a similar hike but as you said, probably I'll have to wait till retirement too.

Sue, in 2003 my youngest son quit his job and hiked the Appalachian Trail, the whole thing Georgia to Maine. He would come down off the trail once a week to discard trash, take a shower, and pick up a provisions box I would send to local post offices, as "Hold for arrival". Those post offices are part of the AT through hiker support system. I had to buy freeze dried meals for him, and it was the first time in my life I looked for MAXIMUM calorie content. He must have eaten 6000 calories a day (at least that's what I sent him) and he was still a lot thinner when he finished up 5 1/2 months later. It was a hard shock for him to cut back to normal intake when he wasn't hiking every day.

What he was amazed at was the number of old folks hiking the trail. Seems that a lot of people put the hike on their retirement list when they finally have the time. Only the very young can be unemployed for that length of time without repercussions.

Today is another challenge for me. It is a beautiful fall day, although cool, and we camping again with some other friends. This will be just one night instead of two (like last weekend). Although I didn't eat perfect last weekend, I did not do any snacking.

So I am repacking all of the snacks that I brought last weekend for me in case of emergency (red licorice, low fat micro-wave popcorn, marshmallows, fat free mini-pretzels, carrot sticks). I know hunger is not an emergency, but one thing can lead to another and I would rather have reasonably healthy snacks available. I do not plan on eating any of these snacks! ! !

As we drive along in their motorhome we will most likely stop for some wine tasting or a beer. I plan on using my lunch for snacking - Triscuit Crakers and Tuna Salad from yesterdays lunch. That way no one will know what I'm up to.

For tonight I am bringing a 7-Layer Salad and our friends are bringing Turkey Burgers to grill. In the morning I have a large bowl of fresh fruit that I cut up and will share along with mini-bagels and whipped cream cheese. Our friends are bringing Quiche.

I think I am headed in the right direction. That is my plan. AND I AM STICKING TO IT. PERIOD ! ! !

You can't celebrate enough. The journey is very hard work. It requires all our energy to stay on the path.

Kriszta11 wrote on my blog that the journey drains energy and celebrating our healthy efforts creates energy for the journey. Couldn't agree more!

Some interesting things happened on the way to life today:

1. I did the measuring test Beck recommends. I dished up what looked like 2 Tbs. of Whipped Cream Cheese this morning. When I measured them one was only 1/2 Tbs. and the other was 2/3 Tbs. Under guessed on both. Yeah me!

2. After a frustrating day I thought about digging into the chocolate Kisses I have in the freezer, but Beck screamed at me and I managed to resist the temptation.

3. At dinner tonight with my dad I picked the croutons off of my salad, I only used 1/2 the dressing on my salad, and I left the yummy dinner roll sitting on my plate.

4. After dinner I walked to an event instead of driving because I realized I had not gotten very many steps in today.

5. At the event I did have a glass of wine that I had planned on, but forgot to write down on my plan.

6. Also, at the event, I skipped every bite of food being served including the bowl of Candy Korn and Roasted Nuts sitting on my table staring at me.

Over-all I think I had a very successful day and I'm giving myself credit!

Nell, that is sooooo funny! I use the same saying.

Yesterday I was suppose to meet some gals for dinner (and most likely drinks), but I have been on the go day and night for the past 10 days and so I canceled on them. Instead I stayed home with DH. We walked to our neighborhood restaurant (see my post on Day 17) and then we went to a movie. I did not practice leaving any of my salad on my plate like I should have emoticon so I still need to work on this.

Tonight I have a dinner meeting. Yes, I know, I eat out a lot! We are meeting at a Mexican Restaurant and you all probably know what that means - baskets of Tortilla Chips staring me in the fact the entire evening! ! ! I could shove them down to the other end of the table, but that wouldn't be fair to those sitting around me. So I am going with my Beck Resistance Armor on!

I still have to remind myself "Righty Tighty Lefty Loosey" when I turn a screw. It's still not intuitive after all these years. Why not do the same for food?

Memorizing my SHORT Helpful Responses. If I could learn to recite the names of Snow White's dwarfs, I can memorize these.

Most helpful response, NO CHOICE. It really fits every situation.

Feeling good in my journey at the moment. Giving credit to Beck and to myself.

Wow, you are doing great, Sue! You practiced all your skills at the restaurant, which is the most difficult place to handle. Good for you!

Reflecting on where I am after Week 2:

1. ARC - trying to read Why I Want To Loose Weight daily and other RC occasionally
2. Diet - using SP calorie range, but not tracking all foods; still not tracking in Wk. 2
3. Eat Sitting Down - check
4. Give Credit - doing this on occasions for good food choices and healthy habits
5. Eat Mindfully & Slowly - most of the time
6. Diet Couch - check
7. Clean Environment - check
8. Creating Time & Energy to become a winner - check
9. Creating an Exercise Plan - I have one, but I'm not following it
10 Set a Realistic Weight Goal - check
11.Tell between Hunger, Desire, Craving - check
12. Practice Hunger Tolerance - check
13. Overcome Cravings - not even close!
14. Plan for Tomorrow - check

I am most definitely a work in progress!

Last night we ate at a restaurant with friends. I planned for this. I tolerated hunger since I didn't make time to eat lunch. I ordered a healthy salad. I waited to receive my one glass of wine until my food came. I waited to eat my dinner roll until my food came. I felt I control and proud of myself for figuring out how to handle the pitfalls of restaurant eating!

Tonight is leftovers night. Never my favorite meal. Figured out what was left and what food categories and what foods I needed to add to supliment to meet my macros. It'll work.

Cooking up a batch of Chicken Cacciatore for easy freezer meals. We have a week of fall weather this week. Such a nice change.
