Hi Faith! Welcome to the group! Kudos to you too, for wanting to go Vegan! I'm close .. but not quite to the Vegan point, but I've been vegetarian for approx. 17 years. Very happy to have another member of the Team! Hope to hear more from you soon! Good luck with your goals! emoticon

Thank you Jankent.

Ok, so I invested in some great books!

The Plantpower Way: Whole Food Plant-Based Recipes and Guidance for The Whole Family
Veganomicon: The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook (excellent book but I wish it had pictures)
Plenty: Vibrant Vegetable Recipes from London's Ottolenghi

I think I will be set for a long time!
Faith

Hi there , it is great news that you want to try to be vegan , congratulations !
There is a wonderful array of fabulous vegan foods available for you to try . What you can't eat is anything that contains any animal ingredient and no dairy or eggs . This may sound harsh but it isn't it is very rewarding . Arm yourself with some good cookbooks ( Spark people have a good book available ) . I have a Kindle Fire and there are loads of excellent cookbooks and lots of them free .
I hope you enjoy your journey . Blessed be .

Hi everyone

My name is Faith and I figured I would join this group since I am contemplating taking the leap into the vegan lifestyle.

My husband and I took the jump into vegetarianism (though we do consume some fish) about 6 months ago after hearing a lecture by vet and animal behaviorist, Vint Virga D.V.M. discussing his new book, "The Soul of All Living Creatures: What Animals Can Teach Us About Being Human Paperback". It was not a discussion on giving up meat but the man was so passionate about his stance on not consuming animals after working with them for so long, that he inspired my husband to take the plunge.

Anyway, long story short. I am really just interested in learning more about what I can and cannot consume as a vegan. I tend to be a picky eater and still cannot contemplate consuming mushrooms, eggplant, or tofu, but love fruit and veggies so I have that going for me :)

I am also a huge animal lover and have been all my life. I am appalled at the meat industry and the needless suffering many of the 'mass produced' animals have to suffer in order to feed people. It really does disgust me and I feel I have been living life as a hypocrite since how can I profess to love animals and work with animals (I am a dog trainer) while still participating in the industry by eating them.

I want to lose weight which I have had issues with all my life (though not been overweight all my life), but most of all I want to feel and look healthy. I have an active 4 yr old and am an older mum so it is enough just to keep up with his energy levels.

I started bikram yoga on January 1 and completed a 60 day bikram challenge (60 consecutive days of bikram) and felt awesome. Now, it is time to take charge of what I put into my body. I stumbled onto the website of Rich Roll (ultra marathon athlete) and was blown away. Just started reading his books; Plantpower Way and Finding Ultra and have been inspired!

Sorry for the rant. I look forward to meeting people who have been on the path for many years.
Faith
