DJUNAMOD - mid-40's isn't "older" ! emoticon I am 67! I have 600 fitness minutes for the month already!

For the OP, it's OK to be scared, but don't let it stop you! The tools here are great. Set your goals and motivators and start tracking EVERY thing you eat. It will show you what works and what doesn't work.

I have been a vegetarian for over 40 years. Since being here and working on losing weight, I am moving a lot closer to vegan. All that cheese is really bad stuff! Dr. Fuhrman, whose book Eat to Live is really helpful, says "cheese is a dangerous substance!" Focus on fresh fruits and veggies, a lot of it raw. See my ticker below, I am down 12 pounds since end of June, when I started here. I actually started working on weight loss in May and I am down 19 pounds since then. It works!

Hello! I also am an "older" woman (mid-40's) and just started back on a healthy vegan diet today. I've been vegan on and off since 2009. I'm also a bit scared, but I know that when I eat healthy and vegan, I feel so great physically and mentally and am able to think clearly and get things done. I hope you'll find the same is true for you! This is the first time I'm using SparkPeople, though I've been a member for some time. I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the tools available but they've been great so far.

Although, I still consider myself a newbie to this team, I have found it to be one of the most supportive groups that I've come across on Sparkpeople...and I've joined quite a number of teams over the last year and a half! Congrats for wanting to improve your health!

I turn the big 5-0 next month, which is amazing to me...time flies!

I've always been athletic and have lifted weights and exercised most of my life. Due to hypothyroidism (diagnosed during my mid 30s) my struggle with weight loss has been a rough one. Once I dumped soda and began following a vegetarian diet back in the early part of the year, I began feeling better immediately, although the weight is taking it's sweet time coming off, as usual, lol!

The members of this team have been great and I believe you'll find tons of support here, just as I have.

I'm not sure how old you are, but I'm turning 50 next week. I have been vegan for 2 years, still have some weight to lose but feel so much better!

Welcome to the best site of its kind on the web !

I am 76 years young and in excellent health . I changed to a Vegan diet only 3 years ago but had been vegetarian for 35 years or thereabouts ( can't remember exactly !! ) and am very glad I did . I enjoy experimenting with different recipes and am an avid juicer and smoothie maker . I make my own nut milks every day and grow a lot of " sprouted " seeds to add to my diet .
Good luck on your journey , need advice just ask.

Welcome. I changed overnight, but everyone is different. My best advice is avoid being a junk food vegetarian. Avoid processed foods, don't replace meat with cheese dinners.

If it is going to be it is up to me !!!
