I was going to ask the same thing IMVEGAN asked, because if you're not gluten sensitive the transition to vegan will be much easier if you allow yourself some gluten. I'd just advise you to avoid processed foods. Concentrate on whole foods while you eliminate the animal foods. Eat vegetables, beans, legumes, fruit, a few nuts & seeds. All the websites people posted for you will help you put them together with spices, and you'll be off and running! Good luck!

Some people think the “plant-based whole foods diet” is extreme. Half a million a year will have their chests opened up and a vein taken from their leg and sewn onto their coronary artery. Some people would call that extreme.

Congrats on the change! I would caution that if you want lasting results with your cholesterol, it can't JUST be a diet, it has to be a full on lifestyle change. You can't go back to eating the way you did before, and any animal product is going to have cholesterol in it.

That said, Vegetarian Times has an awesome diet plan for 4 weeks you might like:

Has your doctor tested you with a blood test showing you to be gluten intolerant? The reason I am asking is less than 2% of the population actually are severely gluten intolerant. The "Wheat Belly" books and such have been debunked by actual research. Bu if you want to go gluten free most of Lindsey's happy herbivore recipes can be made gluten free because she gives you options for that... I like Dr. McDougall's book, Maximum Weight Loss. He also has a free web site. He does not have "Meal Plans." You have to plan for yourself. But his book is an excellent one to read to give you support. Lindsey Nixon (Happy Herbivore) follows basically the same way of eating as he does... Some of the other people you may look into are... Dr. Esselstyn, Rip Esselstyn, Dr. Neal Barnard, and their books... all good ones... If you need a lot of support and have the money $20 a month. The Protective Diet .com would be a good place to look in to. She has videos. A weekly meeting. She talks with you personally. She teaches you how to cook. And her recipes are delicious. Again she is no fat, whole food and plant based. You would surely never need to go on medicine if she were to help you out.. Good luck to you.

Check out www.happyherbivore.com . LIndsay's vegan meal plans are fat-free and have grocery lists and most meals can be partially prepared on Sundays and therefore easy to throw together the rest of the week. There is a cost involved. Not too expensive though. www.pcrm.org has a 21-Day Vegan Kickstart meal plan. It is free which is nice. It also has a grocery list.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Muhsinah. I recently had a physical and my physician informed me. I have high cholesterol and am a borderline diabetic. She gave me six months to loose the weight before medication will be prescribed. I want to eliminate animal products from my diet along with any food that work against me. I am interested in transitioning into a gluten-free vegan diet. Just a diet. I am 37 year old African American female weighing in at 295. I need/want to loose 95-100 lbs of which 60 of it this year. Also, I does anyone one know a good meal plan site to assist me.
