I'm vegan.

However, I'm not a diet nazi. I want what's best for animals, and for peoples' health. If being here helps you to get inspriation for more veggie eating, gain friends, learn new things, consider, and get healthy, then power to the people! Of course we'd love to have you here!

To me, life is a journey, and we're all on the journey towards better health and a longer life together. Hopefully, eating a diet richer in fruits and veggies, whole grains and legumes will be a part of your healthy new lifestyle.

Welcome to the team, like everyone else has said we all start somewhere and anyways there's no need for labels on here. We are here for the same thing, that's to live a healthier lifestyle so that should be the focus point. Learn what you can and adapt what you wish to your current lifestyle...at the end remember it's all about YOU!

Welcome!
Glad to have you here.
We all have to start somewhere and maybe with all the info you will find on this team, you will be full veg in no time.
Best of luck to you.

Of course you are welcome! I wouldn't worry about labels. It isn't religious dogma, and you don't really have to call yourself anything. You can just eat what you want to. I'm also a big fan of listening to your body. I once was given a diet by an alternative medicine practitioner that I followed for three months that made me feel awful. I think I wasn't getting enough protein, and I ended up eating fish for a few months until my body got straightened out. Now I eat dairy and eggs, I feel great, and my body is in the best shape its ever been in. I'm working on going for as much organic food as I can get here, and I love the idea of feeding my family healthy food.

If not now, when?

OF COURSE, you are welcomed here! Everybody starts somewhere, and you just happen to be 3/4 of the way, already. We all struggle and have our goals to reach and we are all here for each other. Judgment has no place in support. Period.

I am vegan going to RAW and loving it. I am in South Carolina, in the heart of beef cattle country, so I KNOW well what you mean about the South East not being as knowledgable or giving about non meat and alternative lifestyles.

But, press on, remember your goals, LISTEN to YOUR body, (no two are alike) and we are glad you are here.

emoticon to the Team. There are many types of vegetarians. I believe you would fall into the category of a Flexitarian. That is the newest type of vegetarians they have defined. Below is something I copied from the internet.

"One thing that many people don't realize or understand is that there are different types of vegetarians. Each individual vegetarian has his or her own personal reasons for choosing their diet, and these reasons determine exactly what foods they eliminate. Although a few different reasons and motivations are described in the Why? section, below is just a brief definition of each type of vegetarian.
Total Vegetarians eat only plant food. They do not eat any animal foods, including fish, eggs, dairy products, and honey.
Vegans not only omit all animal products from their diets, but they also eliminate them from the rest of their life. Vegans use nothing from animals, such as leather, wool, and silk.
Lacto-Vegetarians will include dairy products into their diet of plant food.
Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarians eat both eggs and dairy products.
Pesco-Vegetarians include fish into their diets.
Pollo-Vegetarians eat poultry, such as chicken, turkey, and duck."

Oh my gosh you are awesome here! Thank you so much for the overwhelming welcome emoticon The last time I lost a significat amount of weight was about 10 years ago when I still lived in California. I began that journey by cutting back on fat and then just evolved into not eating meat for around 7 years. I live in S.E. Georgia now and still prefer my vegetarian meals most of the time. Georgia is not veg friendly like Calif was. Again I appreciate your warm welcome!!!

If someone is leaning vegetarian and even leaning further toward veganism I suggest reading The China Study. The research behind that book is really good in a field where there is a lot of terrible research that is more marketing that truth seeking. Reading that book was a clincher for me. Figured going part vegetarian or even 100% vegetarian didn't up my odds all that much, but going vegan seems to be dramatically better--China study points out that animal protein, not just animal fat, plays a significant roll in both heart disease and many cancers. Both eggs and dairy have cholesterol as well. Cut out animal fats and proteins and you are well on your way to dropping excess weight.

I think we all started somewhere....and being nice and welcoming to others helps pronote this wonderful community. For me, accept people where they are and encourage them to meet their goals in the spirit of friendship and community building. 75% is definately welcome and I am looking forward to learning with them and everyone.

Welcome!

I'm sorry that everyone else is being nice and my post probably isn't the nicest thing ever but...

You can't be 75% vegetarian. You either are or you aren't. Period.

But hey, to each their own.

In the last year, I have been "hanging out" here and telling my friends and family that, "I am leaning into vegetarianism."
I don't know exactly when or where or how it happened, but I am now vegetarian! Just being here has been good for me.
Sp hang in here and see what happens. Good luck

There are no PC Nazi police around here as far as I can tell. I am 75% vegetarian too. The other 25% is vegan. :-). I was a vegetarian on and off for many years. After reading The China Study and some other research based material I decided that dairy and eggs had to go as well. Don't miss them. Have to tell service in restaurants that I am a vegan (in the SF Bay Area you don't have to explain what that means) but everywhere I go the cooks are more than happy to make me a vegan option even if none are on the menu.

emoticon I started out twenty years ago where you are at now. It took me a while to get here, but now I'm a vegan and even now I sometimes cave to a craving for ice cream. We each have to do what feels right for us. Again, welcome to the team.
