Made a decision this fall that I'm tired of having my daily activities decided by my weight (which is contributing to a handful of other health issues). I'm retiring in about 6 months, and I'd like to enjoy it, but as it is now, many things are just too hard to do--they make my joints hurt, or take too much energy, or require fitting in seats that aren't meant for people my size. Having all that free time isn't going to be much fun if I all I can do is walk from my chair to the fridge and back! The first month of following a sensible meal plan wasn't too bad, but now it's hit home that I'm in this for the long haul--I'm looking at abut a year's worth of work here; that's not a diet, it's a lifestyle--and it's hard to keep motivated. Reaching my goal--assuming I can get there,would still put me just above the healthy range of BMI, but it's been over 20 years since I last saw that weight. Sometimes that seems like an impossibility that I will ever see it again.

Welcome Karla - you sound just like me as I have been a spark member for many years. I always start out gung ho and quickly fade. I too am determined to make it work this time. I usually fluctuate between 255 - 260 and I really need to get under 200.

This is a great team with really awesome ladies.

Hi all. My name is Karla and I am 53. I've been a member of Sparkpeople off and on for several years and this time I am sticking with it through all the ups and downs. I found this team today and joined because it sounds like my kind of team and there seems to be more activity that in so many of the others. I have a problem with consistency. I do well for a while and then slack off, lose a few and gain it back. I've been hovering between 250-260 for quite a while now and need to break the cycle I am in so I can be healthier. I look forward to reading about how everyone is doing and learning to share what's going on in my life too.

I have been a Sparker for many many years but can't seem to stay committed. I have been a member of several teams but have never found any to be consistently active or exactly what I have been looking for. I really need challenges and accountability. I need to be pushed. I have 100+ lbs to loose and am getting very upset that I can't do what it takes to get this weight off.

I am 57 and weigh 260 lbs. I have been living in Colorado for 30 years but still in love with my native state of South Dakota.

Hello - I've really let myself slip into some bad habits and now find myself with a little over 100 lbs to lose to get healthy. BUT I CAN DO THIS with your help!!!!! Well I am trying to get back into the swing of things after our short vacation. Feel very scattered today.

DH and I had a great time at Seaside, OR. Our hotel was perfect, right on the beach and next door to the Aquarium.
We will be staying there again. We had a king size bed, gas fireplace and partial view of the beach. They had free DVD rentals too. Weather was pretty good - mixed bag for springtime. There was torrential rain and then times of sun and clear skies. We did a bit of exploring and found some beautiful places. I was mindful of getting in my protein when we ate out. My freggies still suffered,but I still did pretty good. Much better than I would have done times past.


We did a short hike up a trail to a look out spot (1/2 mile total). My knee was hurting pretty bad when we were done so I wasn't able to do the trek down the stairs to the beach below. But I am proud of doing the trail - my first time.

We fed the seals at the aquarium - love those guys!! It was about a 6 hour drive there and it took just over 7 hours to get home on Friday. I didn't even think of us travelling work traffic on a Friday of all things! lol... took forever to get home.

Yesterday we took a special ordered cake to my mom's for Mother's Day. It was for my niece too, but her crew has been sick with bronchitis..so we skipped her house. It was a 5 layer chocolate cake with buttercream icing. I had part of a piece - it was too huge. Good, not as sweet as store cakes. A local mom bakes cakes as a hobby.

Well, I need to scoot. My desk looks like a bomb went off...lol I hope everyone has a good night!

Hi everyone, I just found this team and am excited to join. I've been back on SparkPeople since about October and am trying to lose 194lbs. My doctors are planning on doing a gastric sleeve, but I am hoping to do it with just diet and exercise. I have discovered a love of step aerobics recently, so that is my current obsession.

Hi all. I'm Robin. I actually joined Sparkpeople about a month ago. I was told about this site by a some friends, so I could track my daily calories. I am lucky to have the support of some friends who are on the weight loss and fitness journey with me, but they are younger than me. It is different being over 50. I also, currently have a physical limitation that prevents me from doing much. It is a temporary limitation, I had stem cell injections in my knees to help repair many tears in the muscle tissue and also to help grow new cartilage in my knees. I have to wear braces for 6 months and am limited have only recently be cleared for the stationary bike and water aerobics. I'm going to get on the bike tonight, I am not sure when I'll get to the pool, that one is tough with my work schedule. I can only do 10-15 min right now on the bike, but can build that up weekly. Anyway, tracking my calories has been really good for me. I still eat sweets, just smaller portions, but in the 4 weeks I've been tracking calories I've lost 8 pounds so that is nice. Hopefully that will pick as I can do more and more exercise as my knees heal.

Hi All I am Tonya, I have been on Sparkpeople before. Haven't been back for several years. I am now at my highest weight. I am older and it is important to me to get healthy because I want to live a long life and enjoy living. I am at a place in my life where I am able to have the necessary medical tests to see what may or maynot be hindering my weight loss and fatigue. I will be successful on this journey this time. Just from changing what I eat I already feel better! :) Looking forward to getting t know some of you!

Hi, I'm Maryann. I've been Sparking for years, sort of, off and on. That's my problem. I give up. Right now I feel like I'm "done." I'm sick of feeling weaker every day, stiffer and older every day. I've gained more weight. I'm tearing the blinders off because I know I am not actually "working" as hard on this weight loss goal as I tell myself I am. I'm 51, mom of 3, borderline many things--prediabetic, high bp, high cholesterol. I have gout, arthritis, sleep apnea, and some moderate injuries that I'm going to PT for. I also have a free gym, (just found out there's free yoga!!), a few supportive friends and my daughter who wants me to run a 5K with her in August, and time when I make it. I'm happy to be here and will try to keep coming here. I'm very easily distracted and forgetful-- things I'm working on.

Hello,

I'm needing help this season so here I am, trying again. :-) I find it hard to keep coming to SP. It seems like if I miss a couple of days of logging onto the site, I'm gone for a long time. My weight is stuck. I keep yo-yo-ing the same 5-10 pounds for the past 10 years and it seems like it doesn't matter how much I exercise. I was walking 3 mi a day 4 days a week, no loss. Stop walking? No difference. It's frustrating. But I am trying to work up my determination now and you all seem like a fun bunch to help motivate me. :-)
