thanks! I really enjoy it :) I also have some basic lifting routines I do. Not as much a story as just giving the moves fun names, like "Katana Draw" for taking a deep side lunge while doing an behind-head tricep extension as though I'm pulling a sword from off my back ;-) Or "Dr. Strange Circles" is a move that works the shoulders. Stuff like that - it's fun!

Oh my goodness - why did I not think of looking for an app to supplement my not-so-great imagination? =) The task of finding the Zombies Run app you suggested or something similar is totally added to my to-do list.

I'm hoping to write up a bunch with different scenarios :) I had fun at a cafe drafting one about exploring an old cave and looking for some mysterious relic/treasure in it :) Makes exercise so much more fun when you can think of it as a treasure hunt, zombie survival, paladin or Ranger.... :D

And I LOOOOVE the "Zombies, Run" app!!

That's fun! :) And, good job on the parenting, obviously, to turn out a kid with some geek cred.

I started out just treadmill at the beginning (too out of shape to do more than lumber around a bit ;) ), and was sooooo bored. I had a friend turn me on to an app called Zombies, Run! (there's a SparkTeam for it here, too)
It has voice actors doing a storyline, mixed in with a playlist of your own music, and occasionally you get chased by zombies while on a mission picking up supplies, so you get to do a burst of speed for a bit. After you complete a mission and sync your supplies you picked up, you can go in the app and build up your base in exchange for those supplies.
It's really helped my intervals, and it's more engaging than trying to listen to an audio book or podcast.

Thanks for the welcome!

I'll keep you two posted on my "quests". I am only on day two, but so far, so good. LOL. And they are nothing spectacular - I just planned the days I wanted to do cardio, walking, or strength training, then made up a silly excuse to need to do them. For example, today I want to snowshoe around our property for my cardio; so my quest is snowshoe the perimeter of a facility on Noveria to look for Rachni (which is a reference to the game Mass Effect). My son is way better at imagination than me, so he totally gets credit for that one. Right now they are just exercise quests, so I need to figure out how to work healthy eating into it as well.

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome! I look forward to getting to know you two better as we work to get healthy.

Welcome back! (I originally joined in 2007)

I'd love to hear more about your quest.
I've been using spreadsheets to set up lots of milestones and goalposts for myself, and that has helped keep me motivated. But, I also had other issues I had to address along with it.

Hi everyone! I am new to the team and SparkPeople... although I did have an account back in 2008. For the last several years I have been trying to get healthier, but have not had much success. I am taking a different approach to it this time by trying to incorporate some of my nerdy-obsessions and create quests for myself. I guess we'll see how that works, but I am looking forward to creating friendships while using SparkPeople's tools to finally get myself in order.
