You're going to Tuscany? WOW!

Glad your hike went well! Let's hope the Trailhead Fire was the last one in our area for this season!

Following up, we had a terrific hike. Very clear air. No smoke was detected. We hiked from Gate 150 to Cool. It was 4.15 miles, 2:12 hours, and 963 feet up! Another hiker joined us. She was more experienced, and pushed our limits a bit further.
We have another hike scheduled tomorrow from Cool to the home of one of the hikers. Lunch and swimming will be our reward! I'm realizing that I need to include some downward slopes as well.
7.5 weeks until tuscany. But who's counting! HA!

Hugs,
Barb

The next hike will start at gate 150, and we will hike to the town of Cool. This at least 5 miles away from the fires. I will check with Jackie though, to find out if the air is clear enough for heavy breathing.

Hugs,
Barb

Hope the next hike isn't anywhere the Middle Fork! Doesn't seem like the best place, given the Trail fire.

You are absolutely right about the heat. We have another hike planned in mid-July. We'll get started in the early morning.

I didn't realize you live so close to me! The ARC is only about 20 miles up the road. Snall world, eh neighbor!

And you were lucky you did that hike last week -- you would melt if you did it this week!

Hiked again this week at the American River Confluence. This time, we parked one car up at the Auburn post office, and the other at the American River on Rt. 49. We had decided to walk the Stage Coach Trail up the canyon. Good plan, but somehow we lost the trail TWICE. We had to backtrack, and try another trail to get closer to our car. With help from other hikers, we finally made it. 5 miles, 3.5 hours, and 1,265 feet up. We were both famished. It was fortunate for us that this was last Wednesday, when it was unusually cool.
I'm happy to say that with a long soak in a bubble bath, and early bed time (ha, try to stop me!), I woke up without aches and pains. That is a huge accomplishment!

Welcome to the team! So glad you discovered emoticon emoticon ! It's one of my favorite exercises too, & as soon as I get this bum knee replaced, I'm going to be right back out on the trails! It's especially a treat to hike up on the crest of the Sierras when it's stinkin' hot down here!

1. What area of Sacramento are you in?
Land Park

2. What is your favorite way to get active?
Jazzercise and walking

3. What kind of music do you enjoy?
A capella singing of any kind.

4. What kind of books do you read?
Travel guides, and travel journals/stories

5. If you could meet anyone in person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
Eleanor Roosevelt and/or Barbara Jordan. Both of these women were strong with a lot of backbone. I'd like to know if they were always like this, or did they have to develop their personae.

6. What else should we know about you? Don't hold back, get your brag on!
I retired a bit early in 2014, escaping a bad work environment. I've lost 78 lbs since then, and become a fitness fiend. I start my day with Jazzercise, and continue to walk as much as I can. I also bicycle with my husband, although I am reluctant to ride on downtown streets. Today I launched a new activity - hiking! A friend in Auburn and I hiked in the American River Canyon. We've already established another date to do it again.
I am rewarding myself with two walking tours in Italy this fall. One is the hilll towns of Tuscany starting in Florence and walking my way to Siena. The second is hill towns in Umbria. The second one is more challenging, with greater changes in elevation. That's why I started hiking today, and will continue to do so through the summer.
June 5th, I'll be walking my first 10K race. I did this to help me to develop the endurance and stamina that I will need in Italy.
I'm about 25 lbs away from goal. I hope to reach it by September, but if I don't, oh well. I am stuck on a plateau right now. My metabolism is fine, but the body does not want to shed any more weight. I just keep plugging along. I am working with a diet councilor at Kaiser.
That's my story. Thanks for saying hello!
Barb

Hugs,
Barb
