Welcome to the team Crystal!

Though I am not a fan of Walmart, they do have some reasonably priced organic foods now. Cheaper than Whole Foods, usually. If you don't have a Walmart (I think Chicago just allowed them in??), maybe there is another low cost alternative?

As for cheap recipes, check out the Spark recipes. Some are very good and cheap. Creamy curried veggies was a standard recipe for me a few years ago. Chana masal is also a great cheap recipe. All it takes is some chickpeas, tomatoes, and a spice mix (better to do your own, but that costs more money).

Good luck with your studies and your weight loss goals!!

Yet there was a man within me
Could have risen to the clouds,
Could have touched these winds,
Bent and broken them down,
Could have stood up sharply in the sky.

Welcome Crystal!

I'd recommend rethinking the farmer's market. It is very easy for me to go there and spent an absurd amount of money because my eyes are often bigger than my stomach - but it certainly doesn't have to be a budget killer.

I'm just as likely to pick up carrots at the supermarket because I really can't taste the difference - but a tomato on the other hand - that is worth the trip to the farmer's market.

And the more flavorful the healthy stuff is, the less I need to drown it in less healthy fare (read: cheese - the place where I really blow money at the farmer's market)

Hello,

My name is Crystal and I am finishing up a master's in arts management at CMU in Pittsburgh. Currently, I'm doing an internship in Chicago.

I've been wanting to lose these "last 15 pounds" for years, and it was supposed to be this summer, when I only have to work 40 hours a week (what a luxury!), but alas, it hasn't happened.

The problems are: #1 I LOVE FOOD. #2 I am trying to eat just natural, real foods. No diet stuff. But also, I can't afford farmer's market stuff. I feel like I'm in a catch 22.

Anyways, I am so tempted to put off my "diet" until school starts, but really, what good will that do me? By joining this forum I hope to 1) receive support and motivation, 2) rejoice in the knowledge that it IS possible to lose weight while in graduate school! and 3) get some hella awesome cheap recipies :-).

Thanks all,

Crystal
