Hey, Cat - I love Athens! (And REM and the Indigo Girls!!) You must love living there...my program is the only one of it's kind in the world (PhD in Holocaust History), so I had to go where it is..."lovely" Worcester, MA. Luckily, I have friends that live in a really beautiful, small NE town about 15 minutes outside Wuh-stuh, as the locals call it, and so I can escape. When I'm not here, I live in Vienna, Austria (my husband is Austrian and - sadly - there right now!), and so this depressed, post-industrial NE town isn't exactly meeting my aesthetic standards! emoticon

Your diss topic sounds really interesting! How did you get into it?

You appear to be actually weighing my goal weight, so I am a little jealous...but won't let that stop me...hints, tricks...hmmm...well, my favorite breakfast is 1/2 c. Fiber One cottage cheese + 2 T ground flax seeds + 1/2 c. (or more) raspberries. Tons-o-fiber, plus good protein.

I am trying really hard to eat 5x300 calorie meals throughout the day. We'll see...what's your "plan?"

Betsy

Hi Betsy!

I'm at the University of Georgia in Athens. I do southern history, with focuses on women and material culture in the super-long nineteenth century. My dissertation is on a quilter named Harriett Powers.

I'm still in shock that I have gotten sooooo unhealthy in grad school. All that focus on studies, none on health. So far, Spark is working good. But I am so focused on health, that the dissertation is a little side-lined. Can we have some balance please?!?!?

Anyway, I'm all about sharing tricks and finishing grad school!

I changed my site-name, so pardon the confusion. emoticon

Hey, CATBERLE - I'm a History PhD student, too...studying for Comps and nearing my all-time high. Again. I have been on Spark (off and on) for 3 years, and when I'm good...I'm good...when I'm not, I'm not. Anyway, it's hard to work 18 hours a day and eat 1200-1550 calories! Let's share tricks!

Where are you? I'm at Clark University in Worcester, MA, working on PhD in History, focus Holocaust history. My dissertation will be about repatriated Jews to Vienna after WWII. YOU??

I am sooo happy to find a graduate student team on Sparkpeople! I am dissertating at the moment and finally have a little breathing room in my life - time to get healthy again. I gained 35 pounds since I started! I have lost 15 since my all time high around the time I took my comprehensive exams. Now working on the stubborn 20 that simply haven't been willing to budge.
I look forward to getting to know y'all as I learn to lead a more balanced life again.
