Unfortunately, as a grad student all my classes are in the same small building so I don't have to walk around campus much.

Right now I'm trying to get in the habit of exercising. Hopefully the habit will stick once classes start.

I went to UT for my undergrad! I actually have to say I was in the best shape of my life there, but only because I had to walk EVERYWHERE on campus. So I guess my suggestion is to take advantage of all the hills there. It was the first time in my life I ever had defined calves.

But for my graduate school weight gain now (about 7lbs), the one thing that really has helped is just waking up at 6am every morning and going to the gym. I just make it part of my day, no matter how much I need to study later on, I always make sure and get my 30 minutes in the morning to myself.

Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.

Hello grad students of SparkPeople.

I'm in Austin, TX for grad school and originally from New York, NY. I decided that keeping track of what I eat and getting myself to exercise were too much work the first year, and my body's paid for it. The first semester wasn't too bad, but I gained a lot in the second one.

I'm hoping that if I get myself into healthier habits now I can get myself to keep them up once classes start up again.

Right now I'm studying for a qualifier I have to take in August, so I mainly stay at home which makes lowering my calorie intake easier. I also go out dancing every few nights, plus I've started to do workouts at home too.

We'll see how this goes.
