Hey there!

I did Spark awhile ago, and while it worked for me for a bit, I got "kicked out" of the singles group I was in when I got a significant other. (grin) My world was wrapped up in the relationship, and we all know the age-old saying...."loose weight when you are dating, and gain it when you are in love/married". So...the weight was lost then gained when the relationship became comfortable. But then I lost the support of the spark group and I was simply to lazy to find another group (perhaps the time and energy commitment had something to do with it too)

I just finished my comps and somehow gained the dissertation weight in the comprehensive time. I have a wedding that I have to be in in a month and had to send my measurements in for the dress to be made....and that was, of course, a big wake up call - I gained back so much of the weight that I had taken off. Ack!

I am frustrated, but not overwhelmed. is my new (old) introduction. I am a PhD student (assuming everything goes well with the oral defense of my comps on the 3rd, I should be ABD) entering my third year. I am studying Counselor Education, and am in the 9th month of the new relationship. I lost 80 pounds about 4 years ago, gained every pound back and a few more for good measure. I then lost 70...and then comps started. I was having a rough go of it, not loosing (or gaining) anything for about 6 months. Thinking that it was time for the plateau to end, I started strength training 2 times a week with a trainer in addition to my cardio...but then I stopped cardio, so that backfired. (grin). I am not sure exactly how much of the 70 I have gained back, and I don't think I want to know. I am seriously considering not weighing myself but simply going by the feel of my body and clothes...I tend to be a bit of an overachiever (as the rest of you will relate to!) and get frustrated easily when I don't see numerical changes.

So comps were finished a week ago today (save for the defense). And today I spent 45 min. hiking, then had a smart lunch, and then played DDR on wii for about an hour, so I am feeling pretty good about that. I also made an apt with the trainer again so that I can actually go back to strength training but incorporate cardio into the time there so it is not all muscle strength (I took 3 weeks off due to a very contagious eye virus, comps, and then sheer laziness). Saturday I have asked people to go hiking with me too. So I am feeling pretty good about my choices, but still not feeling like I am doing everything I can. Curses to the overachieving graduate student mentality!

Regardless, I am hoping that this becomes a new place for me to begin again.

It is a pleasure to meet you!
