Hi Ramona,

The way you explained the virtual walking really clicked for me...openned my eyes about it!

I am a west coast gal and I think I will create, or find, a Pacific Coast Highway walk!!!

I am also a lover of Runes...I haven't found too many others on SP yet...maybe we can start to do a daily rune for this team?

Oh...and BeccaBoo is why I found this team too! (She is a great big light in this world!)

When I rejoined SparkPeople.com in July 2011 I was reading about someone doing a virtual hike of the Appalachian Trail to make their walking more fun. So I created myself a word document to record my miles. I have two links here for you. The first link is the mile post points and you can start the entire walk either in Maine or Georgia. This link gives you the information on the mileages. What I did, which took a while is create a document with the information going from one point to the next. When I decide to log in my miles I will go to my mileages and put them in on my document to the correct point.
The second link is to maps. Some people like to have a physical map so they can see where they are.

http://www.atdist.com/ is the distance calculator between points on the trail

http://rhodesmill.org/thefox/maps.html is official trail maps

I hope you'll join me on my walk of the Appalachian Trail and if you're interested I'm the leader of the AT group here on Spark.

Here's how far I've come since July 24, 2011: on August 11th, 2012: I am at 555.41 + 5 miles (Abrahms Falls Trail) for a grand total of 560.42 miles. Iíve passed Knot Maul Branch Shelter in Virginia.

I am glad you joined! So sorry to hear about your fall and memory issues. That being said, you are doing really well nevertheless! You've remained to be an inspiration for me for some time now. I am still doing rehab with the knee but I have increased my walking by using a rollator.

How do you track your virtual walks? Is there a program you use? I would love to hike the Appalachian trail with you.

Hi, Ramona, I'm just glad that you are healthy and whole. I can only imagine the frustrations at losing some of those memories. But here's the thing about memories: they are perceptions of something that occurred. For example, on someone's wedding day, the attendees might have thought it was perfect, while the bride had expectations of something happening that didn't, so for her it was marred and brings less than the happiest memories! So, while memories might help to make us who we are, this may be the opportunity to use the change (or lack) of perceptions of the past to help make you into who you'd like to be.

Welcome to the team! I look forward to traveling the path together!

Hi Y'all, I'm Ramona. Thanks to BECCABOO127 I found out about the group. I have read a few posts and I have angel cards, runes, and some others that I have to remember where I put. Back in Oct 2006 I had a terrible fall and knocked myself into nothingness for quite some time I'm told - I don't remember. Anyway as a result of that baseball size knot on the back of my head, I've lost many many memories. Remembering things is a pain because there's so much I can't remember. As a result I'm always talking to the universe and the angels. I'm learning so much. My doctor says it takes 7 years to grow new brain cells to replace those that were killed when I fell. So it'll be Oct 2013 before they're done. Downside is lost memories stay that way. I hope to learn from everyone and hopefully be able to share with you.
Can't wait to read more of the posts. Until later...
Ramona
