Hello, my name is Clara and I live in Laredo, TX. I am 59 years old and overweight. Well, truthfully I'm obese. I enjoy walking so much but there are days that my back hurts so much. I began this trip by scheduling some health screenings that I need to do to make sure I'm healthy. I scheduled a colonoscopy and had a mammogram today. I am going in for a bone density test on Monday and on the 3rd, I have my yearly checkup with my gynecologist. I am also going to get a blood test to check for any irregularities. I have 3 brothers and 1 sister who are diabetics. I know that if I don't lose weight, I am asking to become another static. So with this walking trip, I begin my journey to a healthier and happier me. I think this group will inspire me to walk by myself. I think I will walk to New York City. I have no idea how to get there but I will google it and get back to you with the mileage. For the next month or so I will walk early in the morning. Here in Laredo, it is usually in the mid 90s by 10 AM and the humidity is horrendous. I get back to work next month. I'm a teacher. I plan on signing up for a body sculpting class at the community college. It's cheaper than a gym and I get access to the machines at the college gym. I can then use the treadmills there. I also bought the Wii and do the Wii fit in the mornings before I go to work. Wish me luck on my trip and may we meet along the way.
