Hi emoticon TIKKI_TIKKI and emoticon to SparkPeople and the team...Nice to have you with us on the journey to a healthier lifestyle.

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

Don't be afraid to give your best at what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Hi Darla - welcome to the team.

You can achieve your goals, but to do so you have to start at the beginning, and work through to the middle until you reach your goal. I won't say 'end' because this is a healthy lifestyle and there is no end to that.

I suggest that you read the articles on Nutrition and Motivation (if needed) in the "LEARN" dropdown of the toolbar above. You will learn a lot in there.

I suggest that you weigh all of your food for increased accuracy and enter it all into the Nutrition Tracker. That will help you to stay within the various ranges that SP has given you, UNLESS you are working with a Registered Dietitian or Dr and have been given different advice.

Just make one or two changes to start with and allow your mind/body to get used to the changes before you add something else to the mix. It might be as simple as reducing soda/juice but increasing water; or reducing cakes/ice-cream but increasing fruit/vege. Don't drop your calories right down to start with because this could set you up with a whole raft of new problems .... dizziness; light-headedness; nausea; poor/disturbed sleep, etc. Gradually work down to the advised calories. You might find that dropping in increments of 50 or so calories and staying there for 3-4 days and then dropping a wee bit more, will make the transition easier for you.

As far as exercise is concerned, please talk with your Dr about what is advisable and what is best left alone. A referral to a Registered Physiotherapist may also be of benefit, too, so do ask your Dr about this option ... and also about a referral to a Registered Dietitian.

There are chair exercises on SP you may want to explore. You can get some quite good workouts with them, without putting any pressure on your knees, but again, and especially if you have other health issues, please talk with your Dr first.

Good luck with your goals, and please don't forget to drop by and let us know how you are doing. Also, you will find that by being active on the message boards you will find you get a lot more support than you would likely ever have envisaged.

Take care,
Kris

Hi emoticon and emoticon to the Sparkpeople and the Dealing with Depression Team. We are really excited that you have decided to join us. Losing weight is hard to do and if you have a physical disability it is often hard to exercise too. Be sure to check out the chair exercises here on site. They are really great and even include cardio too. They will give you a great workout. I hope to see you on the threads and posting often, so that we can encourage you along the way. It is wonderful to have you with us !! Take care and God bless, Deb

My name is Darla, Tikki-Tikki is just a charter I created on a game . I am 308 pounds, and want to/ have to loose 100 or so pounds in order to have both of my knees operated on; they are bone on bone . My weight is crippling me, and I am tired of being like this.
