emoticon NB180788 aka Kirsten. You are off to a great start on this journey. Knowing that consistency in tracking your nutrition and exercise routines is a huge key to success. Another key is to clean out your fridge, kitchen and pantry and restock it over time with healthier choices. You can do this! It's about making one healthier choice after another.

Hi everyone

Thanks for just being there!

I'm Kirsten and I come from a long genetic line of depression in many forms. Like most of you, I take drugs to stabilise my brain chemicals and stop me becoming suicidal again. I can't ever take myself off them, but wish I could as they also affect my weight. Since being back on medication, I have picked up 25 kgs in 2 and a half years.
I am now trying to take back my life and starting with consistent tracking, exercise and eating right, I'm going to get back to a healthy weight, in spite of the medication.
I have no doubt I will stumble along the way, but it really is good to know that you are all there supporting each other and hopefully me when I need it!!!

Take care and have a great weekend!

Hi, I'm Erika and I joined yesterday. I have struggled with depression for most of my life. I have medication and a daily meditation practice which helps a lot but I need to get my food and exercise on track. Thanks for reading me.

emoticon to both Spark and the Team, KAYLEEFRYE6 aka Katie. I'm so glad you took the time to stop in and introduce yourself. The good news is you are among a lot of members who understand depression and anxiety. Even better news is that you have noticed that you have let your "health and fitness goals go". You are so ready to make some needed changes in your life as you continue studying for your exam. Start slowly by setting small goals and then track them. As you see your success, continue adding more goals. Whatever you decide, enjoy this journey to a healthier, happier you.

Hi! My name is Katie. I am new to SparkPeople and new to the team. I've been struggling with mood imbalances and possibly anxiety and depression over the last 4 years. I am studying for professional exam and have just kind of let my health and fitness goals go completely. I am the heaviest I've been in my entire life and would like to make a change. But I think that managing my stress/anxiety/depression would definitely help. Any suggestions and guidance would be much appreciated.

emoticon to the team, TAMADOR. It sounds like you are extremely busy! However, have you phoned your doctor and asked them about this recent episode of depression? It might be worth the phone call. If you haven't already, you might set one goal that you can work towards on a daily basis. Even success meeting this one goal can help lift your spirits. Whatever you decide, know we are here for you. Please feel free to ask for whatever you need.

Tamador, I found that after a prescription dose of Vitamin D and everyday now with a daily dose of 5,000 iu of vitamin D, that I feel more energetic. I don't feel like running around, but I can get up off the couch and go to work. I suffer from depression and fibromyalgia, which also makes you feel very tired and achey. The vitamin D has helped me immensely. Going to bed earlier then most (before 10) helps too. On work nights I am sleeping by 9. Hang in there, you will find your answer and what works for you.

Hi and welcome, TAMADOR. We're glad you've joined the team. I feel for you because I, too, have tried many medications and had much therapy over the years. My depression is hard-to-treat and it's challenging. I admire you for forcing yourself to walk - I know how hard that is when you feel depressed. It does make me feel better when I get outside and walk for even 10 minutes.

Several threads on the team forums lately have had team members talking about fatigue. Many of us have family members who found out they had sleep disorders (in my husband's case, sleep apnea) and my daughter's circadian rhythms were off. Sleep disorders can cause great fatigue and low energy levels. Other common problems are lack of Vitamin D (mine and my daughter's were ridiculously low and we had to take prescription strength for a while, then change to supplements), and of course thyroid disorders can cause problems. Just mentioning all this in case you haven't seen your medical doctor in a while - maybe a check-up could help in addition to your therapy and meds for depression.

Again, welcome to the team!!!

Hello I'm new here, I've suffered with depression many years. I've tried all sorts of medication, and therapy. I feel very fatigue, no energy or motivation to do anything. I've been forcing myself to walk and try to get into the excersise mood (which I use to love) but it's been hard.

emoticon to the team, KESIATAH. I love your goal you up on your Spark Page: "Learn to think, eat, and live healthier." That is a goal we are all striving to meet. I understand you love to cook and bake and you are working toward healthier recipes. What a great change to undertake! After going through all you have, regaining control is so important and this is but one way to do that! Tweeting recipes and trying new ones allows us to enjoy our food but in a healthier version. This change alone will help you find that healthier, happier you.

This allows you to make changes along the way. Also this is a great document to share with your doctor. They can help you dissect the info and add helpful advice. Hello Team,
I am 58. I have depression, but I am thankful that I have to work; it gets me out of bed. Some Saturdays I can stay in bed for hours and have to talk myself to get up, When I say this is the day the Lord has made, let us be glad and rejoice, then I get up. I realize that I am wasting a day. I have a wonderful husband that lets me sleep as he knows I work hard and tire easily. I also have fibromyalgia. I love food and always have had a weight problem since I was a young girl. I eat when I am tired, procrastinating a project, happy and watching TV. I just joined Sparkpeople and find that if I stay on the computer, I don't eat. :) emoticon then before I know it it is time for bed. (my husband is disabled and watches TV a lot) I love reading different articles and ideas from all.
Keeping track of all you eat is good so you can see where you can improve on. Have you tried hard boiled eggs for the protein? I find protein helps keep me fuller longer. Keep positive and don't give up. Small changes make huge results!

Hi, I am new here. I have struggled with depression and anxiety since childhood. I am 58 now. I comfort and binge eat. I often feel like a failure in life and about not being able to control my food intake. I am thoroughly documenting everything including how much I eat, even though it embarrasses me at times. I do see a trend that I don't consume enough protein. I really struugle to get to 10% protein when I know it should be more.
I am looking forward to getting to know the group.

Hi. I joined sparkpeople a few weeks ago. I am a wife and mother of two teenagers and struggle with my eating every day. I am a binge/compulsive eater who sometimes purges as well. Suffering at this point from mild depression, I am doing much better than I have in the past. I just don't like myself very much.
Am looking forward to reading about how everyone else copes and any ideas they may have for getting through the days.

Hi! I just wanted do say a quick intro - I'm 52, happily married, no children or pets, like walking, gardening, listening to music, reading and cooking, and am a born again Christian. I live in England and have been in a gloom for about 6 months I think. It's time to do something about it. I'll be looking over the spark depression teams I joined today and other websites, and walking more, as I feel sure that if I went to the doctor he would prescribe more exercise. Looking forward to getting to know you!

Hello friend! I, too, have the "depression is waaay worse than the mania" issue! I actually enjoy the mania because I rarely see it! But neither is healthy, so I guess we must tame both beasts! If you ever need a friend, I'm here!

Hello everyone! Rejoining Spark People after a few years! I have a few mental health issues, but the doozies are Bipolar Disorder Major Depression, and PTSD. Haven't been taking care of myself at all, and am now tired of being mad and sad all the time! Time for a positive change!

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

Don't be afraid to give your best at what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

Hi, I'm Susan. emoticon I'm sort of new. I think I was a member here for a short time a couple of years ago, but for some reason dropped out. I think I felt a bit overwhelmed with Spark and I felt overextended with teams. I have been on Spark for a few years on and off, but recently changed my Spark ID out of paranoia that people who know me could locate me here and read all of my personal stuff. I deleted most of my photos and blogs -- anything that could identify me personally.

So now you know about my irrational fears. emoticon

I have bipolar depression, but I feel more at home in groups dealing with depression than with groups of people with bipolar disorder. I am depressed much more than I am hypomanic. I also deal quite a bit with anxiety and OCD.

I look forward to getting to know all of you!
