emoticon to the team, FREEDOMLIGHT. What a great plan you have in place. Between the exercise, the support you have found in therapy and by branching out into more healthy relationships, you are sure to succeed. If you need anything at all, please feel free to ask for support, motivation and care. You are definitely NOT alone on this journey to a healthier, happier you.

Oh you are not the only one in this place or that place as I am working on me too....through therapy! I have been dealing with depression along with another couple of things since I was 10 yrs old. I am a whole lot better too....but that um...fear of when will the other shoe will drop is lingering lately here and there. So, I keep on with my new yet old loves of walking, biking, and taking pics right now! (Even in the rain...lol.)

And, actually you are giving me motivation to gain some more healthy relationships...
Like closer by rather only back in my hometown, which is over an hour away.

Anyways, welcome and I hope to help eachother...
I am not very computer savy, but you can contact me anytime! :-)

emoticon to the team, TOWARDTHEGYRE aka Gyre. SP is a great place to find support, motivation and care. When you are feeling lonely you might want to check on our numerous threads on the team page. There is a lot of chatter going on there and you might just find something relevant there to discuss. Know you are not alone on this journey.

Hi I'm new.
I've dealt with depression since I was a child. After this last year with a fantastic therapist to help work through the toughest job ever, I'm honestly emotionally better and healthier than ever before.
But it feels like depression leaks in all the corners and I have to constantly keep a vigilant eye open. I have more healthy friendships than before, but I'm very lonely. I'm working on my self esteem and trying to feel less like an imposter.

Hi, I'm not so new here, I was a member a few years ago but when I had to change my email address from Joco50beer to my present email address,Jocko56beer@yahoo.com, I lost track of time. I have severe depression but feel good now with the right amount of medications.
I take five different medications for my depression and insomnia, My Psychiatrist thinks it's the right combination too.
I'd like to re- join the team if that's OK. I'm now known as Jocko56beer1 here.
Thanks for lending me your ear, lol. John

Hello,

I started my healthy lifestyle change a while back when I found this site and joined but got busy with college and ended up deleting my account. But now I'm back and ready to get at it again. For the past month I have been eating healthy and exercising. So I'm committed to making it work this time.

Thank you for your nice welcome Tylynn61 and Mrs_Toad :)

I have set one smaller goal to the "big goal" for now, but I will have to put in some more smaller steps... but haven't yet made up my plan for it.

To help me with it, I'm writing a diary since a couple weeks and these days I start a kind of scrapbook, to become a visual diary and uplifter to help me stay on track.

Whilst I hope to find some (and also give some) motivation and uplifting when the road gets rough.

emoticon to the team, RISINGBEAUTY. Just as your screen name suggests, we are all rising beauties. While you may currently be an ex-competitive sport person dreaming of playing again, that can all change with one healthy choice followed by another. Set small goals while you are learning the ins and outs of this site. Simply things like measuring and tracking your foods can be an eye opener that leads to change. Whatever you decide, we are here for you!

Hi there,

I joined yesterday, and I'm still working on figuring everything out. It is sooooo much o.0

If I would have seeked for help as a teenager I would've probably been diagnosed with AD(H)D, but I didn't. So when I first seeked help in the beginning of my 20s I have been diagnosed with borderline and/or bipolar disorder - which by all means probably is because in my homecountry you don't have ADHD when you are an adult. (Which (my diagnoses) in adults often comes with aforementioned ADHD) So whatever it is at the end of the day - it often brought me into times of darkness that no one should endure.

And whatever it is, I need to fight it. As well as my weight - which is a totally different story.

Sooo today is a good day......... cross your fingers for me, that'll stay that way for a while.

Hi I am Jen and I have struggled with depression and anxiety since I was young. I want to gain the motivation to just get out and start taking care of myself both mentally and physically. I feel sometimes that it is really hard to get up each morning and really want to work out. I am so grateful that there is a group that not only knows what I am going thru but can be supportive as well. emoticon

Hello all. I just joined Sparks yesterday. I am very happy to see that this group is here. I have suffered from Depression, anxiety, and insomnia for most of my life. With that I have also suffered weight problems ever since I could remember. I have done SO many things to try and lose weight, all alone. I am very glad that there are people who understand what I am feeling, and don't tell me to just suck it up and get over it. Thank you, and hello!

We ALL can do anything we set our minds to!!

Hi Everyone, I just joined SparkPeople this week and I am glad to see a team that has other Depression sufferers - it's good to have as much support around you as possible and I know all of you understand about this daily battle. I've lived with this illness for 2 decades now and I keep hoping/praying a cure can one day be discovered. I've been on an array of meds and have seen countless therapists and psych docs. The psychiatrist I am currently seeing finally "Gets It"! I am overly sensitive to chemicals in meds so she is great with low doses and starting and stopping new ones until we find a good combo. I like that also she is empathetic to my weight issues and avoids meds with a weight gain side effect. At any rate - A BIG HELLO to all of you and I am VERY glad to be here with you all!! Have a good weekend and Smiles & Hugs for you!! Jodie

Hi everyone! I am new to this so am just feeling my way around! I have tried all diets out there and am just sick of looking at myself. I suffer from depression and anxiety but thank goodness there are meds out there that really help me feel better. I like this group because we all have a sense of what the other people are going through and feeling. I wish everyone luck!

Hi LP, this is a great place to start! I am a big yo-yo dieter as well and I am living proof that crash diets don't work! I just joined sparkpeople yesterday and I already love it. I am focusing on just being more aware of what I am eating by using the food tracker and trying to get a walk in (even for only 5 or 10 min) every day. The more you stress about it, the higher your cortisol levels will be and that is no bueno for weight loss, depression, or anxiety. My depression and anxiety are relatively under control right now, but of course I still have my bad days. let me know if you ever need someone to talk to!

Hi Sarah! I'm new also. I also have severe anxiety and depression, although it is currently under control because of my meds. I want to lose 71 lbs. I know, for me, my weight is a big source of anxiety. Just remember to live one day at a time and if you slip up, it's ok. Just get right back on track. We are here for ya.

emoticon to the team, SOON2BHEALTHY23 aka Sarah. I'm so sorry you are experiencing high anxiety and are having a hard time starting this journey to a healthier you. The good news is that it doesn't have to be a very difficult journey. Set small goals perhaps beginning with measuring all your food so you know exactly what portion sizes you are choosing. You could also try focusing on going for a 10 minute walk each day or even getting 64 oz a day. Whatever you decide works for you, start with small goals so that you can find your footing for what works for you. You are NOT alone on this journey.

Hi everyone. I just joined SparkPeople today, and I'm still learning to find my way around.

I've been living with depression and anxiety for 10 years now. I've made a lot of progress, but I've still got a ways to go. In 2002 I developed panic disorder and was also diagnosed with major depression. My life fell apart. I couldn't leave my house, lost my job, and just withdrew from life. I also gained 60 lbs, partly due to the meds but also because I started to turn to food for comfort. I've been working my way back, slowly but surely. I don't have panic attacks anymore and I can pretty much go out anywhere. I also earned my bachelor's degree in psychology and I'm currently working on my masters in mental health counseling. However, I do still suffer from depression and it's something that I struggle with every day. I'm not giving up, though. I'm committed to changing my life and loving myself more, faults and all. :)

emoticon to both SP and the team, LA-LA_P aka Lauren. I am so glad you have joined the team. We are a supportive and motivational bunch that knows what it is like to struggle with depression. You can indeed get off those 25 pounds if you make small, healthy choices instead of resorting to those unhealthy habits we all struggle with. If you haven't already, peruse the many threads on the team home page. There might be something there that just might speak to you in your time of need.

Hello there,

Here is my story...Most of my 26 years I have felt overweight but the last 10 years have been the hardest. I have always been bigger than my friends and dieting was hard. I worked in theaters as a stage hand through college and after. This was my biggest form of exercise. Food has always been a comfort and while I never thought of myself as depressed my whole family suffered from it and I know that part of the eating was probably due to it as well.

In July of 2009 my father was killed in a car accident when an 80 old ran a stop sign. This was the biggest brick wall I first ran into in my life. My father was in Florida and was going to transplant my car back to our home in California. Since I had travelled across the country twice before with him I knew that I couldn't be in such a cramped space with him for that long without arguing. He was in my car and I couldn't see him anymore.

My mother, brother, and I struggled with this and then January of 2011 my brother (who was diagnosed bipolar and has struggled with drugs and alcohol) committed suicide. This was another brick wall I was not prepared to hit. At this point I accepted the diagnoses of depression. With this I have begun to eat. I hope that being a part of this will help me motivate me to better my life. emoticon

Welcome to SparkPeople and to this team! I am confident you will find this team to be supportive and non judgmental! I have sought comfort and support from members of this team and found it! This is a first time for me to speak out to others online or off. I have never joined a support group for dealing with depression and this has been wonderful for me. Please keep writing even if it feels difficult and takes all your energy, there are great people on this team who will listen, understand and support you! Welcome again.

Hi,

I just joined yesterday. I have struggled with my weight, anxiety and depression my whole life. I am ready to start taking baby steps to living a healthier lifestyle! My metabolism is ruined from years of crash dieting. Lately, I can't even get the motivation to start a new diet, but SparkPeople seems like a good place to start for me. I have hope that this can be the start of a new chapter in my life!

Hello everyone
Here's my story ... In March of 2010 I had lost 30 pounds and was feeling great. During the summer of 2010 I fell off the wagon and (although I didn't realize it) become depressed. Last summer, after a discussion with my husband, I went on anti-depressants and started seeing a therapist, Unfortunately, I have gained almost all the weight I lost back. I want to stick to my diet and fitness plans while juggling a full time, high pressure job and family life. I have two children, a boy in 3rd grade and a girl in 1st.

Sheri

Hi! And welcome to the team. You will find so much care, support and understanding from the members! I, like you, have been diagnosed with bipolar and definitely have major depressive episodes more than mania. For me, the highs take so much out of me and then I crash and suffer major depression than last much, much longer than the hypo mania. The psychiatrist that has helped me along for more than 15 years assures me this is quite common for people with bipolar. Somehow it doesn't make me feel better!
Learning not to mask my feelings and actually talk to people is a huge step for me! Also turning to positive healthy choices is a must for me.
Again, welcome to the team!
