Checking in too! Motivation is so rough to get a handle on - I've recently made some progress: I've stopped "trying" and just started "being". Like, I don't try to be healthy or fit, I convince myself I am a healthy person, and then do what a healthy person does. It's a bit weird, but its helped me make a little progress lately.

In other news, the hubster and I have hashed it out a bit more, and we aren't going to start trying until I have a job lined up. I'm starting to apply now, with the aim of beginning a new job at the end of this year (or so). It's a bit rough, as a friend of mine the same age and in a similar situation just had an adorable baby about a month ago (and I want one too!), but she has enough time left in school that it won't interfere with her job search and graduation. Whereas I would be fighting to get hired while pregnant, and that would be a disaster. I don't care how forward thinking a company claims to be - there is still some prejudice there that a woman with a baby won't be as invested in her job.

I too have been falling into the "I still have time" trap. We may begin trying again within the next 4 months and I have yet to do much at all to get back in shape. I'm honestly a little scared to even attempt any intense workout because I'm afraid of just how out of shape I'll probably be! At the same time, I know I benefitted from an active lifestyle when I got pregnant the first time around, and I'm really scared to start another pregnancy without getting a little healthier first.

Sigh... why is it so hard to get motivated!

Hi all! Just checking to see how everyone is doing. I am having a really hard time motivating myself to lose weight. We are planning to start TTC in the spring, so in my mind "I still have time." A true procrastinator's creed! But in reality, that's not true at all. I should start developing healthy habits NOW, and 60 lbs is a lot of weight to lose in a short amount of time. Is anybody else having this challenge? I feel like I'm denial.

Decided to try a mixture of lemon, peppermint, and lavender essential oils (diluted in olive oil) for allergies. So far, it seems to be working fairly well. There's a great little organic market about 10 miles from my house, and they had lots of certified organic & pure essential oils (gas chromatography/mass spectrometry tested). I also started my LAST ROUND of BC pills. So I'll make an appointment with my OBGYN or one of the midwives (I saw a midwife last time, and she was great), get all the testing and junk done, and hopefully be able to drop some weight soon. I think the hormones in the pills have been holding me back, but haven't been able to totally implicate them. I guess we'll see what happens when my body takes back over its own cycle.

I found the nettle leaf tea at a local organic food store - it was a tiny place, not a large whole foods or something. From what I've seen, you can sometimes find herbal teas that have nettle leaf plus other stuff in a lot of grocery stores, but to get the tea that's only nettle leaf, you need a specialty store. You might also try a health food store or look online.

I went to a Vitamin Shoppe once and bought something homeopathic for sinuses. It's called mezereum and it is used for nasal congestion. I will say it works pretty well but it doesn't last for a super long time.

Where did you find that tea? I'm taking the new car hubby and I bought the other day out for weekend adventures; if I can find it at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, I can swing by either one while I'm out running other errands. If it means I'm not taking pharmaceuticals, I'm all about it; I'd rather not be dependent on medication if I should happen to be pregnant during allergy season in the future.

I hear you about those trees! That's the worst of spring allergies for me. Lately I've been having trouble with any and all allergy medication. I've tried it all at some point, and there's always a side effect that makes it not worth it. I ended up drinking nettle leaf tea (a natural anti-histamine) whenever my allergies get bad, and that clears them up for a bit. It's nice because I only have to use it whenever I actually have symptoms, so when I'm inside all day at work, I don't need to be on unneeded medication.

I've been doing Flonase daily and Advil C&S when I need it. I doubt I could make myself do the neti pot thing; it took me years to be able to deal with nasal spray. Zyrtec makes me feel loopy, and Claritin does nothing. I really love spring; I want to get out and walk since the weather's so nice, but the trees are conspiring to kill me.

I just started allergy shots in an attempt to be off medicine before TTC. Daily I use Flonase (OTC now!) and zyrtec, and now sometimes Singulair added in if I'm going to get my shots, which I should be doing weekly. This may sound strange but have you ever tried a Netti Pot? It looks like it would be uncomfortable but it's really not. Very easy to use and it works WONDERS at relieving allergy symptoms. I use this one on the recommendation of my doctor: http://shop.neilmed.com/Sinus-Rinse-K-ENU-
US-Complete-Kit/dp/B00M8NZR2I. Good luck!

Do you take allergy pills too? Just curious. I used to take zyrtec, which really helped for awhile, but then it stopped. Unfortunately I think I have to go back to them once I get pregnant. Anyway, Allegra works really great too. Sometimes I have to take it with the nasonex spray if I can already tell I'm getting a headache, or add Advil Sinus. If you already take something like that, then I hope they will be able to get you something better!!

Haven't checked in, in a while...I started a self-awareness project on my own. In a nutshell, I listen to what my body needs/wants, and then respond. I'm finding what my natural balance is, so that I can reduce stress and figure out how to meet my body's needs in a healthy way. Yesterday it woke me up at 4:15am for a walk, so I went. Today I had to pry myself out of bed because my brain wanted it to be Saturday SO BADLY I didn't want to get up, but I had to come to work. I ate cupcakes yesterday because someone brought them in for coworkers' birthdays, but then wanted Brussels sprouts for supper (and ate at least 2/3 of a bag).

The breakthrough bleeding I had was odd, since I hadn't had it before, but I chalked it up to missing a pill or two and then having to double-up dosage (after doing a Google search on reasons it could've happened). Only 2 more months of BC left for me (including this month), and an annual appointment to schedule sometime around then. I also need to call my allergist, because I seriously need something more powerful than OTC nasal spray and Advil Cold & Sinus to keep from having allergy migraines. The worst part is, I WANT to open the windows because it's so nice, but the trees are trying to kill me with their pollen!

Just call me La. Most everyone else does.

Hi all -- thanks for the support! On my husband's suggestion, I hid the candy bowl in a cabinet. Problem solved! Out of sight, out of mind. I also told my one coworker (who I suspect is the one who brings in the treats) that I moved the bowl into the cabinet so I wouldn't be tempted every time I see it, because I am on a diet. It was no big deal at all. What a relief!

I don't have any experience working in an office setting so unfortunately, I don't have any ideas with the candy :( I think I would probably let people know that I was trying to eat healthier and ask them to help make sure I stayed away from the treats!

I just went to the library and requested Taking Charge of your Fertility. They have to order it from another library in the system, so hopefully it should be ready for me to pick up in a few days. I see people talking about it on other boards so I'm hopeful I can learn a thing or two!

Today is finally CD 3. This is only the beginning of my 5th cycle since last August so I was actually happy to see AF! Today I got some labs drawn today and I have my annual appointment next week. I hope I get some answers or some ideas of what may be to come down the road.

Other than that I plan on being better about temping this cycle so I can better understand my cycles. I really want to be ready to jump back into TTC as soon as I am able!

I haven't, but my office isn't so set on having candy and other bad for you foods sitting around. We do have a "cookie time" on Wednesday afternoons where we take turns bringing in treats. If I've had a good week - no cheating, I go and limit myself to one of whatever is there. If I haven't, I just pretend to be busy and don't show up. Not really sure how to tackle that one, especially when I end up refusing homemade goodies...

I do have one office friend who is at a similar place to me and we update each other on workouts and progress to check in.

Posting this question here because I usually don't get many replies when I post a new topic to a forum. Has anyone shared their weight loss goals with their co-workers? I have been having a GREAT staying on plan, and I think a big part of that was not having any candy in the office, which I always find so tempting. Lo and behold, today there is a giant bag of fun size Snickers. I've already had two. In the past, two fun size snickers would lead to four which would lead to eight, which would lead to intense sugar cravings and binge eating at home. But I feel so embarrassed asking my coworkers not to bring candy into the office because I can't control myself, which also carries some shame for me that I'm so overweight. Has anyone else tackled this issue before?

I'm pretty sure that women don't ovulate when taking BC pills. That being said, breakthrough bleeding is a pretty common side effect of BC pills. Your doc could prescribe you a different brand of BC that might curb the side effect, but in my experience, it always came back after a while. Good luck!

So apparently my body decided I needed 2 periods this month, because I had my normal one (according to the BC cycle), which was really light (like 2 days of barely anything, which has been pretty "normal" for that). Then, I started heavy spotting around when I should've ovulated (exactly halfway through BC cycle, heavier than my scheduled cycle). I'm not sure what is up, or whether my body is like, "Hurry up and ditch the pills so I can get back to normal."

Anyone else had this happen? Just wondering if I should call my doc or wait it out. No other symptoms.

Just call me La. Most everyone else does.

I just finished puppysitting for about a month, and having a dog in my life DEFINITELY inspired me to walk more. I miss her! I have been off of BC pills for about a year now and I'm so happy I made that choice! I use an app called "iPeriod" which lets me track my cycles (easily) so I can tell when to expect my next period (in case I'll be traveling, etc.) and it turns out, my body operates like a clock! I would have never known that on BC. Plus, the app gives estimations for ovulation, so when we finally are ready to start trying, at least I'm one step closer. I think we'll probably follow a similar route -- stop using protection for a while and see what happens, and if nothing happens, then start truly tracking with temps & whatnot. November seems so soon and I'm still not sure if I'll feel ready by then, so we're just taking it one day at a time for now!

Interesting about the birth control because my doctor said the same thing. Said people can get pregnant right away after being on it, but I sure had several months of getting back to normal. Maybe it depends on the person, but I still think putting those extra hormones in our bodies makes our bodies "lazy". If that makes sense.

Happy early birthday Aero_Nerdette!!

There's no Crohn's in my family, but I did used to have really bad PMS symptoms before I started on the pill. Everything from migraines and bad cramps to basically having faux morning sickness the week before I started. I'm really hoping that doesn't start up again, but it could've been exacerbated by my horrible diet during high school and college.

Hubby and I are doing well on saving; we are going to upgrade the car from a sportscar to a "responsible adult vehicle" big enough for us, a kid, and a dog (and all our crap) this summer. We both feel really good about where we are financially, and we're paying off debt as fast as we can. I'm making a diet overhaul priority so I can get a handle on meal planning as we move closer to TTC, and so that we don't end up falling back on takeout food so much. In a few months, I'll have the dog to accompany/require me to walk, so my activity level will go up some. Not looking forward to my gyno appointment this year, because Pap, but I will see if she can do body fat testing on me while I'm there (or at least recommend a place for me to get it done). In the meantime, I turn 30 on Friday. Yippee.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Yes, definitely give yourself time off the BC. I was going to finish off my last few months (through July), but then I found info on a new study linking BC use to increased risk of Crohn's disease, which my mother has and is at least partially genetic. So I stopped rather abruptly last month after about 7 years on, and my body is doing weird things, bad digestion, cramping at random times, and my first cycle was off by more than a week. My doctor said it didn't matter if I went right from taking BC to TTC, but after last month, I think it does for me and I'm glad I'm giving myself extra time to be normal again.

I think I'd end up adding stress by tracking stuff, like you said. I have a bit more leeway in our conception frame though! Hubs said he would like to be under 40 when we have a kid (he's turning 35 this year), and I'm almost 30. I would love to be located closer to our families before we have a baby, but if it happens, it happens. I have a couple more months of BC left in this round of refills, and it's actually good timing for me to stop since this is the year I have to get my Pap done (hopefully y'all don't think that's TMI). I also want to let my body re-normalize since I've been on BC for the last 10 years.

That's my plan too, at least for the beginning... start TTC without actually *trying*. From my time on this board, it seems to be rather stressful at times to track everything. But, if it ends up being hard to conceive, tracking seems the best way to start.

I think part of my attitude about it is that the hubster is already more than ready to start TTC (he told me the other day he wants a kid before he turns 29, which is August 2016), but I still want to finish up some things and get more settled in my career/job before starting! So, if we don't *try*, but just let it happen, then maybe I'll have a bit more time to get myself settled lol.

So...hubby and I had talked about trying in June (when I run out of pills), but I don't think we'll really "plan" it as far as cycle tracking/temping. We're getting a puppy in September, which will be a good "practice kid". I guess I'm just trying to say that we're going to let go of planning for a baby and let it happen, if it does. Having puppy will definitely make me exercise more, since she's high-energy, so I may be more likely to lose some weight once she comes home with us.

What do y'all think about this "let go, and let God" approach to conceiving?

Hi everybody, just wanted to check in and say thank you for the support! I have been feeling great the past few days. As I mentioned earlier, I saw a nutritionist the other day, and she basically confirmed my SparkPeople plan but also helped to give me a bit more guidance and structure, and so far, so good! I'm very confident in the livability of my plan-- at least on weekdays ;-) Weekends will be my next challenge to overcome! I've also had some heart-to-hearts with my dear husband about the pressure I have been feeling to prepare for the start of our family on the timeline we've discussed, and that has helped tremendously as well. With his help, we've identified a few financial solutions to be debt-free next month -- instead of Sept/Oct as originally planned! Which is a huge relief. And it gives me even MORE motivation to get fit NOW instead of later, because our dream of having a family feels closer than ever before :-)

Oh Marielle, you make a good point. I should probably schedule a time to see my allergist to see if there are any foods I need to be avoiding, and to discuss TTC and allergy shots with her. I'd rather not suffer migraines due to my allergies if I can avoid it; I can just imagine it being so much worse when I can't take a decongestant or anything to mitigate symptoms.

I feel like our finances are in pretty good shape; we have to trade the sportscar in for a "responsible adult" car (not a minivan), but we've got a good "emergency fund" going in savings so far, we can pay all the bills, and we're paying off debt.

As to "body preparation": I started lifting weights back in November, and while I haven't lost any weight, I've definitely changed the shape of my body for the better. I changed my point of view regarding exercise to "I work out so I can feel good," instead of "I work out because I'm overweight," and it's been more motivating. The food part is hard for me, but I need to get back on that wagon, too. Having a hubby who doesn't care so much about what he eats is difficult. I'm trying to get myself back into the mindset of creating a healthy "family culture" where we're active and cook healthy meals together. I have to visualize what my "ideal family" would look like and then work toward the goal. I've also learned to embrace the "Queen Elsa" (Frozen) philosophy and Let It Go. So I ate heavy food over the weekend. It's in the past, and now I can move forward. Letting go of my past dietary failures keeps them from holding me back so I can refocus and make positive changes.

Definitely talk to your husband about your feelings. He should be in the loop if something is bothering you, especially when it's something like having a baby, which impacts both of your lives. My husband and I are fairly logical about setting down a plan for near-future events. I will say that when you talk to your husband, speak from your point of view and try not to sound like you're placing blame or being combative. Approach it diplomatically. I started the conversation with my husband by saying something like, "What do you want our family to be like? How do you think we can work together to get there?" Making it a team effort can be helpful, and opening the discussion to share your thoughts and feelings about the situation will help. My husband knows that being healthy for myself and any kids we have in the future is paramount to me. While he doesn't care quite as much as I do, he still wants to set a good example, so he does encourage me in my fitness endeavors and make an effort to cook healthy meals at home when it's his turn to cook.

Just call me La. Most everyone else does.

Marielle, I found an article the other day on people's motivation. It said that no matter how important your long term motivation and goals, the main driver that makes you workout is how you feel during or right after. As a fellow procrastinator, I find this to be very true. Now, I only do workouts I like, or ones that make me feel good. I also found that while treats still taste amazing, my body doesn't feel as good after - its harder to workout, I feel sluggish, etc... That makes it a bit easier for me to say no, especially when I'm doing yoga that day.

Found the link: http://greatist.com/fitness/intrinsic-moti

I hope this helps, and just make sure you take care of yourself! It's a lot of pressure, and I'm sure the stress you are under doesn't help either! And we're here for you to vent or whatever you need to help make it through :)

I'm hoping to start TTC in November but I feel a lot of pressure trying to make sure we're ready for that. I'm trying to get our finances in order, which is difficult but I think we're still on track for November, I started seeing an allergist for allergy shots so I can go off daily medicine when I'm pregnant (also possible to achieve by November), and I've seen my primary care physician, who wants me to lose 60 lbs before TTC. I've taken baby steps towards that but it feels like, 1 step forward, 2 steps back. I've struggled with weight issues all my life, but I've never needed to lose so much at once (I'm at the heaviest weight I've ever been) and for such an important reason. Here's my challenge and where I could use the group's help: how do you motivate yourself for such a far-away goal? I'm a procrastinator at heart, so every time I have a bite of a cookie, piece of cake, etc., I tell myself I still have time to "make it happen" (lose all the weight). In reality -- I know that's not true... I need to start losing 1-2 lbs a week NOW. But working in such small increments, its hard to get the momentum rolling. For instance, I'll eat great and exercise for a month, lose 4-5 lbs, then gain it all back in ONE weekend of bad/"normal" eating (eating out, eating sweets, eating carbs, etc.). Does anybody have any advice? This situation is starting to depress me, and I'm not sure my husband understands the pressure I feel to prepare my body, our finances, etc for TTC :-/

I'm secretly counting down to our TTC date at the end of June. I almost hope that we're able to conceive immediately, since my husband and I are taking a beach trip with my parents for Labor day...it would be a fun thing to announce if we're able to do so. Also, conceiving at the end of summer would put the due date near my birthday or our anniversary, so there's a lower chance that hubby would forget the baby's birthday (he's terrible with dates...it took him several months to remember my b-day, and he remembers the day before our anniversary: "the Ides of March"). There's still a lot to do between now and then (still really hoping for a job that moves us closer to home), and I definitely need to be more vigilant about my diet.

I turn 30 next month...well, more like in a few weeks (17 April). Between then and June, I'd like to have my body composition tested to see how far off I am from where I want to/should be. I also need to have my annual girly appt (hooray for Pap smear year...not) and talk to my gyno about everything leading up to and after conception, since it's our first child, I'll have a lot of questions. It may be time I put in a call to my mom for moral support and to see what questions I should ask the gyno.

In the meantime...my MIL is coming to visit in a couple of weeks, so that's a whole ball of stress I have to deal with. I know she's going to ask me about babies since she's already tried to get an answer from hubby over the phone (he gave her a sarcastic, "good luck with that..."). Should be fun (/sarcasm).

Just call me La. Most everyone else does.

A sticky topic works for me! Now it will be easier to find, thanks :)

I was definitely sweating bullets for a few days there, but with it came an amazing clarity. I knew exactly which goals mattered the most to me and what I needed to focus on. So now that I'm back to muddling through normal, everyday stress, I try to remember what I felt then as motivation.

Is that a normal experience? Does having a baby (or think you are going to) help show you what really matters to you in life?

MNEMONIKO - We can't really MOVE the thread without starting it over and it would still get buried in the General Discussion section, but I made it a sticky topic so it will stay visible in this section. Hope that helps!

Mnemoniko such exciting news, albeit I am sure a bit scary when you were unsure. But nice to know that if it were to happen or that if you decide to start TTC earlier that you guys will be ok! Congrats though it is a big step even just making the decision to start TTC!~

Mnemoniko, While I'm sure you were sweating bullets a little, at least you now feel more comfortable starting the process a little sooner. That's exciting!

How is everyone here doing? I love hearing about everyone's journey, and we hear from the TTC or pregnant folks quite often! But what about everyone who is still waiting to start TTC? How are things going for you?

I had a bit of an experience this weekend that made us start reconsidering our future plans and I wanted to share. I completely missed a period while on the pill, when I have never been off by more than a day (on or off the pill), come hell or high water. I was so sure I was pregnant, but tests showed otherwise (shout out to my first time ever POAS!).

So back to normal, but the whole experience made me think a lot. We had been planning to wait to start TTC until I graduate and move to a new job. Which could be at the end of this year. But after thinking for several days that I was pregnant and analyzing the situation, we realized that it would actually be quite manageable to get things started a lot sooner. We haven't decided for certain when to start TTC yet, but I'm going to stop taking the pill and start with prenatals in the next week or two. Then, depending on how we feel, we can start TTC at any point after 3 months from now.

How is everyone else's schedule and plans holding up to real life?

(Also, can we move this thread somewhere else, like general discussion? Took me ages to find where it was - this was the last place I looked!)

I downloaded Kindara 18 months ago. I use it to track my cycle, and at one point fertility. We then decided it wasn't the right time to try, so I just plugged in my period once a month and forgot about it. I am realizing now that it was one of the best things I could have ever done to get ready to conceive because I understand how my body reacts regarding my fertility. I highly recommend the app, either for baby making or period tracking or trying NOT to get pregnant.

One huge plus from the app is that I have noticed when my period weight gain is, so I don't get all pouty when I step on the scale and it doesn't move. I just remember that my body is trying to go through it's motions and I have to support it.

Forget all the reasons why it won't work and believe the one reason it will. --Unknown

So we started the "baby discussion" last night. I told hubby what I was thinking/feeling, and he gave me his thoughts/feelings in return. Yes, we're both anxious about our current location and the high cost of living here, but at the same time neither of us want to get stuck waiting when the nature of life is to never be exactly perfect. I don't plan to put so much stress on "trying" exactly, just kind of see how it goes and what happens, happens. I will probably download a tracking app just so I can get a better feel for my body and cycle after I stop BC. Hopefully all the horribly bad PMS symptoms I had when I was younger won't come rushing back once I leave my hormones to their own devices.

I think that both of you have a good point.

It is important to let your body experience 3 cycles and get the chemicals out of your system.

I had my first boy at 35, but I wish it were sooner. We did try earlier, but it just didn't work out right away. We want #2 now (I think), but I am 37 and my hubby is 40! We are getting up there.

I think that is a good idea Areo-nerdette!

I just went off it. I was originally going to take it for one more month but decided I wanted to go off it earlier. My DH wasn't excited... not that he doesn't want kids ahha but he hates condoms lol and now I am making him use them a month longer while we wait April. But I felt it was more important for me to get to know my body and cycle a bit better!

I've made the decision to stop taking BC when I run out toward the end of summer this year, whether or not I've lost the weight I want. I'm not sure how I'm going to broach the subject with DH, but I guess now is the time. Honestly, I'm already terrified that we'll be "stuck here" in our current location 900 miles away from my parents, but I don't want to end up sitting on the fence for too long and having the opportunity to be a mother pass me by while I'm waiting to be ready. I'll be 30 in April, DH will be 35 in June. I don't want us to miss enjoying having a little one while we can keep up with them through childhood.

To get more vegetables in, try blending them into other things:
1. grate/blend into pasta sauce
2. grate zucchini, carrots, parsnips, sweet potato into meatloaf (tastes great!) instead of adding breadcrumbs
3. blend veggies into fruity smoothies
4. mix spinach, etc. into eggs
5. mix into blended soups
6. mix into mashed potatoes
7. mix into ground beef for shepherd's pie

I hide them in the meat/sauce/potatoes. It works with no complaints.

I know! I've never bought one since I have yet TTC...., but dollar stores usually sell basic pregnancy tests for a $1.
I've read there are natural ways to estimate ovulation. But you have to be really in-tuned to your body. I'm going to start paying more attention!

QTLADY:
I've heard of New Chapter! I like New Chapter; I'm pretty sure most of their vitamins are food based just like the rainbow ones Aero & I are taking. Both of them are good brands. They sell them both at Whole Foods Market. WFM sells other organic brands too so check it out!

Aero:
My husband's picky about certain things too. He has a sensitive stomach.....Haha this One time I made a lemon based soup I found on Pinterest, and I put waaaay tooo much lemon. He was like 'you have to be really hungry to eat this' lol .....I suggest more soups and stews if you want to include more veggies. You can blend lots of vegetables for soup. You sneak a lot in that way. Also research recipes online made with veggies you both like or want to try. I find all sorts of cooking sites/blogs mostly through pinterest.

Tonight, at some point, I'm going make this http://www.poorgirleatswell.com/2014/11/re

Made it last week (added mushrooms too) and it was pretty good!

I HIGHLY recommend the Rainbow Light prenatals. I was able to find them at my local CVS for about what the other major brands cost, and sometimes they go on sale for even cheaper. They are literally the ONLY multivitamin of any kind that doesn't make me sick. I also noticed that they have some probiotics in them, too, so that's a little extra from the standard.

My two big things right now are:
Really focusing on meal planning and moving more toward veggies than fruits (I'm kind of a fruit fiend)
Sticking with my exercise program (3x/week lifting, at least 2x/week cardio) consistently.

Lately, I've been much better about exercising than eating, and that needs to change. I don't drink a lot of sugary drinks (take my coffee black, water most of the day), but I definitely need to plan better so I don't get pushed toward eating "lazy food" (frozen convenience things, takeout). Since hubby and I set a goal to only order out twice a month, we've been cooking more, which is good...but he tends to want the typical American "meat & potatoes" meal, which can be not so good. Any pointers on getting a 35-year old man to try veggies he claims to hate?? He's almost as bad as a toddler!

Just call me La. Most everyone else does.

Welcome Jan Marie!

For several months I took New Chapter prenatals and they were awesome. I had alot of energy with them but they were definitely expensive. The past couple months I took Trader Joes prenatals.Nothing really significant about them except they are major horse pills! I should be done with those this week and I'm going to try the Nature Made brand.

Welcome Jan-Marie,

I agree with Be-Amazing! it is so nice to get your home set up! And enjoy that part of it! But congratulations, this is such an exciting time!

So I went to the drug store yesterday and I was just looking around at pregnancy tests and ovulation tests... WOW I didn't realize they were so expensive! I have never taken one before and was shocked! No wonder I see so many people buying them online etc..

I heard of this too! I want both!... Isn't it interesting when families have all girls/boys? My husband actually had 5 brothers!! (one after another!) + one sister and step-sis...Huggggggeee family!

I love those vitamins too! I honestly feel more energized taking them. I think they also helped a bit with my hair. Had a period where it seemed like my hair was thinning (Nursing School). I think they are cheapest on amazon~ ....I pray you land a job closer to your parents. It's good to have help with kids! I live far from my parents too. We are hoping to send for my husband's mother once I get pregnant. She lives in another country so we have to send her an "Invitation" Visa to come to the U.S. Hopefully everything works out as planned. Or close to it!

Hi Everyone,

I just got married in November, but have been ready for a baby for years. However, my husband and I are only 25 and he isn't currently ready, so I'm still currently on BC. We both have great full time jobs and are currently looking to buy a house, so I'm hoping we will plan on TTC once we've purchased our first home. It's great to read what everyone else is planning. I also didn't think about taking pre-natal vitamins before I was pregnant though that definitely makes sense. I look forward to continue hearing about all of you in this group!

Lynn,

I take the same vitamins you do! Rainbow Light is the only one I've found where the amount/type of iron doesn't make me sick. I need to get back into the pattern of taking them regularly before I'm "scheduled" to go off the Pill at the end of the summer. I'm still hoping I'll be able to land a job closer to where my parents live, so I can get to my mom (or she can get to me) when I have an "OMG I need my Mama" moment once we're blessed with a baby.

Welcome Amber and Lynn! emoticon

CRINS, good for you ending your BC! I hope your cycles are comfortable and regular to help you track.

Amber, I like the idea of carrying your partner's egg. Either way, you will both be so in love with that baby that it won't matter.

I know how you feel Lynn. It is exciting to think about getting pregnant. It is hard to wait and be patient to lose weight and prepare.

I have just started Day 1 of my cycle. This is the second one that I have actively tracked, so I am glad that it seems I am regular and on a predictable, 28 day cycle. That will make it easy to predict ovulation when the time comes.

Did you know that male sperm are short lived but fast swimmers, and female sperm are long lived but slow swimmers. Therefore, if you baby dance a few days before ovulation and then don't again until well past ovulation, then the female sperms will be the only ones left and you will most likely have a girl. If you baby dance on the day before or on ovulation day or the day after, then the faster male sperm will win out and you will likely have a boy. Interesting food for thought. emoticon

Hello everyone I hope you are all doing well and following your goals!

You can call me Lynn and like you all I am so stoked for motherhood!

My husband and I wish to get pregnant in the next few months with our first. We're thinking around the end of spring or sooner. I'll be turning 22 this month and my husband is 27. I currently have about a year & a half left of nursing school. At the moment I am not working, but may look into working as a nurse's aid at the local hospital.

My current goals are to :
~Continue to keep my grades up & study everyday
~Eat clean, eat organic, eat high quality food
~Take a prenatal vitamin*
~Exercise daily (very hard to fit in!)
~Read/research about pregnancy & parenting
~Cook own meals frequently
~Gain some muscle and lose about 20lbs

I truly cannot wait to get pregnant! ^~^

I hope you all have success in all that you do.
Cheers!

Thanks! It means that we live in our 26' travel trailer full time, kinda like retired people do, only we are not retired! It enables us to change our scenery whenever we feel like it, and change jobs when we feel run down. We have lived on Federal Lands for the last four years! These are places that no-one is allowed to live on, except the people who work there. It has provided some extremely scenic moments.

Hi guys!

So excited to see this post! When I first joined this group it seemed like everyone was already TRYING and that no one was setting up for it.

My partner and I have been together for 12 years, I am 28 she is 30. We have been full time RVers for 4 years and are ready to make our place in the world, and that includes kiddos!

We don't have a start date, but I know I need to start getting healthier now in order to feel the way I want when we do try.

We have not yet decided if we will be doing reciprocal IVF (her eggs, my uterus, donor sperm) or artificial insemination. Obviously artificial insemination is much cheaper, but I would really love to carry her biological child. We still have some things to workout, but the thought of that little one keeps me motivated to keep on track and meet my goals!

Our goals for TTC:
1. Get to 160 pounds (or less!) 160 was a weight I felt healthy in, anything 10 -15 pounds under is just a bonus :)
2. Re-stock our savings account (a recent trip to TX drained it!)
3. Pregnancy vitamins everyday
4. Run a 5K!
5. Find a house in a town close to home. (Big Bend TX)

We are attached to the cooking school, so I usually order a fresh salad made to order with chicken breast for lunch. It is a great, big bowl that keeps me going all day.

Thanks, CRINS. I realize not everyone can haul 40 lbs of fruit to work every Monday, but it helps me stay on track. This week, I've made my own lunch almost every day. I stumbled upon a great filling wrap combination of deli sliced meat & cheese, spinach, and some chipotle black bean dip (which I use as a spread). It has a lot of flavor and plenty of the good stuff; I've been eating some carrots and hummus with it, along with one of my fruit servings.

Just call me La. Most everyone else does.

MNEMONIKO,

I have been carrying fruits/veggies with me to work every week. I have a shelf in my cubicle where I keep my "produce aisle", all the fruit/veggies I plan to eat during the week. It keeps me accountable; if I have leftover fruit at the end of the week, I missed a serving one day.

Just call me La. Most everyone else does.

Nice goals! I'm betting we will see some themes emerge as everyone posts their goals :)

My pre-TTC goals (in no particular order):
1) Lose 10-20 lbs (preferrably 20)
2) Graduate and get a decently paying job
3) Get a better handle on my stress levels
4) Workout consistently (I had a 4 month healthy streak and was losing before spraining my ankle over a year ago - want to get back to that!)
5) Add in more veggies to my diet
6) Switch out pre-natals for BC (not until #2 happens)

Great goals Be-Amazing!

My Pre-TTC:

1) Workout 5-6 days a week
2) Eat healthier - try to get my chocolate addiction in control, eat more real food and less processed foods, drink 1 green smoothie a day!
3) Take my pre-natal vitamin daily for 3 months and onwards - already on my second month
4) Quit the pill - I have one pack left and then will be done- a bit nervous for that one since its been over 10 years now.
5) Lose 30-40 lbs (25 would even be great)
6) Go on my honeymoon in April!

So, what are everyone's goals before trying to conceive? What needs to be in place for you to have a great pregnancy?

My pre-TTC goals:
1. Lose 25 lbs (30-35 lbs would be great)
2. Get my house organized, painted, and decluttered for sale
3. Save up for a new house with an extra bedroom
4. Stop Breastfeeding baby #1
5. Eat healthily, take vitamins and exercise for at least 3 months
6. Get my baby stuff back from SIL (touchy subject there)
7. Get through this semester at school (I teach)
8. Be happy and make sure our family is ready for this change
9. Go to the dentist
10. Have a checkup at the doctor's office

Going off the pill feels great ladies! I will never take the pill again. When I was young, I had terrible discomfort with PMS, but after going off BC, I feel okay/manageable with Tylenol. My hubby and I just use a condom or avoid O time while we want to avoid pregnancy. If we mess up, well, we are married and it was just meant to be.

Having been pregnant before, I can tell you that it is really tough to move around in the last 2 months, so I plan to avoid starting with extra weight this time and I plan to be more careful about gaining while pregnant next time. I gained 50-60 lbs last time and that put me up at 215 lbs on my due date (my son weighed only 6 lbs 5 oz when he was born).

At the end, I was really uncomfortable and had a tough time making it around our hilly block by the end. I had to take breaks on my little walk around the block. It was NOT fun. I also got heart burn, which feels like a heart attack and is frightening when you don't know what is happening to you.

Not only was it uncomfortable for me, it was unhealthy for the baby and all sorts of other complications could happen for both mom and baby. I am going to be much more responsible as a parent this time. I need to try harder. Having a sick baby has life-long complications and heartache, which I know from personal experience. My son is not well, and I worry that part of the cause was my eating and lack of exercise before and during pregnancy. I feel very guilty about it.

We all need to make our own choices for what is right for ourselves though. Ideal body weight charts do not necessarily apply on an individual level. We need to find our own happy/healthy body weights.

I was on the pill before I had my daughter. I started taking prenatals at the beginning of March 2013, went off the bill at the end of that month and conceived in June 2013. We didn't take any preventative measures after going off the bill to postpone TTC. I started the pregnancy at 208 and gained 55 pounds during it. My ideal range is between 140-150. I had a normal pregnancy with the exception of high blood pressure the last couple of weeks. My daughter was born healthy with no issues whatsoever. She is now an adorable almost 2-year old who continues to amaze me every day.

You can be overweight and have a healthy pregnancy.

I never went back on the pill after having my daughter and hubby and I are now going to start trying for baby #2. I have been taking prenatals for a few months now, but I am terrible at remembering to take them every day.

Thanks for all the feedback ladies.
I don't want to be an unhealthy mother. I have been an unhealthy person for a while but I will not let that effect someone else. A regular exercise routine and health conscious meals and snacks is where I need to focus my energy. Started with the meals this week and it's going well so far. My gym closed and relocated and I've been nervous to go to the new one. I used to be at a women's only club but this one is mixed. I'm so self conscious about my weight that exercising in front of fit people, especially men is utterly mortifying. Gotta buck up though - there's no time like the present!

My "happy weight" is on the high side of "ideal" for my height according to charts; I'd be happy anywhere between 135-145, maybe as high as 150 if my body fat % is in healthy range. In contrast, the middle of "ideal" for my height/age (according to charts) is between 100-120 (I'm 5'2"). That is never gonna happen. My mom is an inch shorter than me, my sister an inch or two taller, and they both look sickly at the low end of their weight ranges. My workouts rotate heavy weightlifting with intense cardio 5 days/week, and I don't want to sacrifice my muscle mass for weight loss. I'm prepared to be patient.

I just want to be in good general health and have a firm grasp on healthy habits before kiddos arrive sometime within the next 2-5 years so that I have a good "normal" to return to without a huge change.

It's great we're all kind of together in this. I'm glad I found some people I can talk to about all these fears I have regarding "woman stuff", who are all in a similar place in life. I also feel the using BC for reining in AF; my PMS was awful before I found my current pill. We're talking pseudo-morning sickness type nausea, migraines, crazy mood swings, cramps, and a heavy week-long ordeal. I'm scared it will return when I get off BC when we TTC. Anyone else experience this?

EDIT: I posted part of this last paragraph on the "Parenting & Family" message board and got what seemed to be a scare-mongering reply that the pill is carcinogenic and I should go off it immediately.

My midwife encouraged us to wait about 3 normal cycles after we get off BC to TTC just for my own knowledge. Basically being better able to pinpoint the due date and such. She said it wouldn't be the end of the world if we got a BFP earlier, it would just possibly make the due date harder to pinpoint because we might not know when O occurred. I am a little nervous about being off of BC (it'll really be the first time I've been off it at ALL in 9 years) but I do get some mildly negative side effects from BC (mood swings and mild headaches) that I look forward to being rid of at least temporarily. I'm not sure what we'll go to after the birth of our first. I'm considering a non hormonal IUD since I'd like to BF for about a year, but I'm just too afraid to get one now even though my midwife is willing due to the (however slim) risk of uterine perforation & such.

CROFTAMY-- welcome! Like CRINS15, I was told to get as close to ideal weight as possible prior to TTC. For myself, I intend to try my best to lose around 100 pounds, but I am also trying to really just made lifestyle changes to get myself living healthier in general, so I try not to be TOO tied to the number on the scale. The majority of my "ideal" BMI range (between 121 and 154 pounds) is not realistic for me. I couldn't even tell you the last time I was below 150. Probably in middle or early high school! I think I'd be happy with somewhere in the neighborhood of 150-160, so it wouldn't be far off from the BMI chart, but since I haven't been that small in so long, I'm just going to see what it looks like as I get towards my goal. I won't keep pushing for a number if I get to a weight above my goal and find I'm happy, active, and healthy and the scale won't move further without more work than I'd be willing to do once baby comes along.

As to the risks & such you were unaware of, it's no guarantee, but the healthier you are, the less risk and complication your pregnancy should have. One of my good friends recently had an unplanned pregnancy (she was in the process of losing with no plans to TTC anytime soon) with a lot of issues, mainly pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes. On the flip side of this though, I have also known many women who were in an optimal BMI range and still had pregnancy complications that many OBGYNs incorrectly assume are only problems for overweight mothers. Many women in my family had perfectly healthy pregnancies while considered overweight by BMI, so I think there is more to it than just your weight. You just need to really hunt for a doctor who believes the same.

Hello ladies!

MNEMONIKO my doctor said the same thing regarding BC. I have been on it since I was 18 and I am not sure how my body will be without it! It is a bit scary to think about going off it, but at the same time I am kind of looking forward to understanding my cycle a bit better. I had wanted to go off it last month, but my husband wasn't keen on the idea as he does not like using condoms so he would prefer the less amount of time we have to use them the better. So my plan now is to go off BC next month (I have one pack left) and then waiting until April to TTC, so that should give me at least 1 if not 2 cycles.

CROFTAMY - Welcome! My doctor told me to get down to my ideal weight (120-140 lbs) I have about 40-60 lbs to get there... but I have never weighed that since I was in grade 9 and even when I was eating really healthy and working out 1hr+ at the gym I was still only at 155-158lb. So I just want to be at what is a comfortable weight for me - not what some chart says is an ideal weight for me. Yes I should eat healthy and exercise but it is not realistic for me to get there without starving myself and working out like crazy. That is not life to me. Ideally if you could lose 100+ lbs and if you want to wait that long then that would be great, but I think if you can lose anything between now and getting pregnant that will be helpful as well! Because it will be harder to get around once you are pregnant so anything will help! These are all my personal opinions btw!

Hey ladies,
I am new to this group and just wanted to drop in and say hi.
I just got married in October and hubby and I have been talking a lot about when we'd like to start TTC. We get a lot of the "enjoy being married for at least a year" but we've been feeling the pressure as well. Two of my closest friends are currently pregnant, about 3 weeks apart from each other. If we get pregnant now our kids will only be 3 months apart! At least that's what they keep telling me.
We are not TTC but at the same time, we're not not trying. I've been off BC for about a month and I'm not tracking O so we should probably be a little more careful than we're being but if we get pregnant now, we'll both be happy. If it doesn't happen for a year, we would be happy with that too.
I think the major thing is that I haven't thought too much about being pregnant. After reading through some of the posts here it's clear that I know absolutely nothing about it. I was unaware that you take prenatal vitamins before you're pregnant. I did not know that my weight could negatively effect my baby.
I suppose that would be the one thing that would make me stop and make sure I'm not getting pregnant until I get my weight under control. I have 100+ pounds to lose until I have a healthy BMI. Should I seriously reconsider things and wait until I get my weight down to start TTC?

We aren't TTC yet, mainly due to the fact that I'm in grad school right now and we have no money. Once I graduate (sometime this year) and get a job, we should be ready to go. Well, the hubster is ready for kids NOW. I'm not quite there yet - I feel like I need to work on my health a bit first. I'm pretty good at eating healthy (it's cheaper, and I like to cook), and I only want to lose around 20 lbs. However, I SUCK at exercising! I'm in no sort of fitness shape whatsoever, and at this point pregnancy will probably knock me flat on my behind for 9 months!

So that's my goal - handle the stress of trying to graduate and make time to workout more often. I'm glad I'm working on this so early - I'm 26 & hubster is 27. I don't feel the time crunch, but he does a bit - he wants to still be youngish and sporty when the kid(s) are old enough for serious sports.

On the note of BC, I asked my obgyn last time I was there how much before TTC I should stop taking my BC pills, and she said it didn't matter. She said it wasn't really an issue to let your body readjust to its own schedule, some women might not get pregnant until that happened, but others could right away and it wasn't a big deal if it happens like that. She stressed more taking prenatals at least 3 months before TTC. Not sure how I feel about that, as I tend to be in the "my body knows what it is doing on its own" camp and want to let it re-adjust before TTC. But then again, I take BC first for pain management, so avoiding several horrible AF visits is appealing as well.

I agree! So nice to chat with others who are in the same boat! I don't really talk about it too much with anyone else as I don't want to tell our parents, so that they aren't getting too excited and asking about it all the time... and my mom well she is an interesting one... I love her so much, but she doesn't really get excited about things until way after so if I were to tell her we were thinking of trying she would just be like oh you are too young (I am turning 29 this month!) and that we should work on paying off our mortgage etc... So anyway needless to say if and when we get pregnant I am going to be sending her something in the mail so she has time to adjust to the news lol! When I told her I was engaged she said she was eating breakfast so she'd have to call me back!! WHAT? So I think it will be a similar type of situation with this lol!

Hi, I am glad you two joined us too.

As for BC, I stopped a few years before we TTC. We just pulled out. I know that isn't reliable, so we also used condoms when I thought I was O. I figured if we got pregnant, then that was fine.

As for remembering to take my vitamins, I keep them on the breakfast table so that when I sit down for tea in the morning, they are staring right at me. It isn't pretty, but it works.

I don't drink coffee either, but I love tea and wine. I will miss wine when we TTC for real. I love my tea, but the first time I was pregnant, for some reason I hated tea, so that was easy to give up. I don't drink pop, so that is easy too. Wine is the hardest, but since I am still BF, I don't drink much anyway, and if I do, it is just a small glass with a meal a few hours before I have to BF again. I will miss the occasional glass though. I will switch it out for cranberry juice mixed with soda water.

I am feeling pretty positive right now. It is nice to chat with others in the same boat.

Have a great day on Tuesday!

Hey y'all,

I'm 27 (28 this year) & DH is 30, turning 31. We're hoping to start TTC for our first child anywhere from as early as Fall 2015 to as late as Fall 2016. There are a few reasons for having a year possible variance in our starting to TTC time frame, but one major reason is that I have a LOT of weight to lose before hand. I'm 241 now, have lost about 10 pounds so far (started at 251) and hoping to get down to somewhere around 150 before we get a BFP. I am taking some steps now, like trying to eat healthier, limit caffiene, and taking a prenatal vitamin as my daily vitamin.

A question to the ladies who already have had a baby: were any of you on BC pills before you started TTC the first time? What did you use as contraceptive while you were letting the pill's hormones cycle out of your system? We think I have a latex allergy, so I'm just not sure what we will be okay to use as a backup contraceptive since traditional condoms seem out of the question.

I have been really good about taking my vitamins. At first I thought I would have a hard time but I just take it every morning with my breakfast.. I never miss breakfast! I am not a coffee drinker, but I love my wine, so I am trying to cut back on that at the moment and sushi. I will eat fairly healthy meals but then I am like you Aero_nerdette and will junky snacks. I am happy to say I have been doing pretty good for the last week with eating, now I just need to continue!

I'm in the same boat as most of y'all are. We are not planning to start TTC until late summer this year or maybe later. I will be 30 in April (hubby will be 35 in June), and I have about that many pounds I need to drop in order to be close to my happy/healthy weight before we start.

I definitely need to jump on the prenatal vitamin bandwagon; I have some, I just need to remember to take them consistently. I've been consistent with my weight training, but I need to get on top of doing cardio on a regular basis. I go through spurts of eating healthy food, and then fall off a bit, so I need to get on the consistency bus for that as well.

Hubby and I made ordering takeout only 2x per month our resolution this year, which will help with saving money. The organization part is difficult. I usually do all the chores on the weekend because I can get all the time-consuming ones (like laundry) done in one fell swoop behind the other minor ones (sweeping, wiping down the kitchen/bathroom, etc).

Personally, I don't drink much alcohol, but I do drink a cup of coffee almost every day and indulge in "junky" snacks too often.

Just call me La. Most everyone else does.

Hey all, it is so great to see a few people with some similar goals. I am so excited to meet you and work to push each other.

I have started my Prenatal vitamins, but it has only been one week, so I want to take them the whole 3 months first. I hope that we can TTC starting in the Spring and also drop 30-40 lbs first.

I am glad I have found a great group of women here. Thanks for sharing!

I need to update my page :) I am 34 now...my second little one is 19 months old now, and he is down to nursing once a day. My cycles came back regularly in July, and I am using OPK's to try to determine best days so we can get pregnant quickly. We struggled for years to get pregnant with number 2 until we found out that I have PCOS. Luckily mine is pretty mild so through diet and taking metformin we got baby #2 after just a couple of months. My cycles were kinda wacky before that- so now that I have been tracking them again and seeing they are more normal I am surprised. I am trying to stick to my same diet as before but I am struggling this time. I also got on metformin again but it was costing $300/ month even with insurance and it made my stomach hurt. SO I am not on the metformin and still hoping that we can still get pregnant with #3 in the next few months.

Hi ladies!! I am in a similar situation! My husband and I want to start TTC in the spring, but I have about 30-40 lbs I'd like to lose. I have been working hard the past few weeks, but am worried I won't be able to lose it all before we get pregnant. But I am just going to be consistent with my workouts and eating healthy and hopefully by April I'll be at least at a better weight then I am now! I have also started taking pre-natal vitamins (on month two now) and will be going off BC next month. I have started drinking green smoothies every morning to make sure I am getting some good nutrients and am trying to eat healthy lunches, snacks and dinners. Also trying to exercise at least 5-6 days per week.

Hi!
I am going to be 32 at the end of this month and I am also hoping to TTC our first child later this year, so I am working on similar goals - I just started taking prenatal vitamins, I am working on exercising consistently, I am going to track my cycles to get a sense of that, and I am definitely working on losing weight. I have more weight to lose (I gained 100 pounds in the few years that have passed since my father died, I did not handle my grief well), so my husband and I are going to take stock again when summer comes. I know that being normal weight during pregnancy is best, and it makes me anxious that I won't be at a healthy weight, but I feel like we need to start trying (and my husband is ready too) because the time is going by so fast...

Take care and keep up the good work!
Patti

Hi,

I am 37 now, and my husband is 40, so I understand the worry of age. Our son is 2 yrs now, so I would like him to have a sibling. I am too heavy to try yet. I want to have a healthy pregnancy and do better managing my eating for baby #2. You don't need to worry about being 31. I was 35 with my son, and the doctors were not concerned about my age at all. Weight is more of an issue than age at that point. After 40, it is difficult to conceive and there are more issues, but the early 30s are not really a problem. People represent 35 as the cut off age, but it really isn't. Don't worry, you will be fine.

Are you still breastfeeding your 2nd? How long have you been trying? Good luck to you.

I have most of the same goals but we are ttc now due to our ages. And my oldest one is 14 so if we have another we want it to be soon. It also took me awhile to get pregnant with our second so I don't feel like I have time. I'm just working on these goals while we tttc.

Hello,

I am looking for friends/buddies who are trying to lose BEFORE TTC.

I would like to get pregnant this year with baby #2. My son is now 2 yrs old, and I am in my 30s, so I would like to be fit and healthy for #2 and do a better job with eating and exercise this time around. I gained 60lbs with my first, and I still have 20lbs hanging around with me, so I would like to get to my pre pregnancy weight or better before we TTC. I would also like to get into a good exercise and healthy eating routine to make it easier to transition into pregnancy.

GOALS:
1. Take Preg. vitamins for at least 3 months before TTC
2. Lose at least 25 lbs before TTC (Get to 145 lbs or less)
3. Exercise consistently
4. Eat clean, cut sugary snacks, cut caffeine, cut alcohol
5. Organize and SAVE $$$

Anyone else in my boat?
