Thanks Ladies!!

With my first two, conception wasn't a problem, but that was over 11 years ago in my early 20's. Back then I read a book called How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby. It had some pretty interesting things about the monthly cycle, strength of sperm etc. Yes, I got the girl I had always wanted since I had a boy first. This time around I don't really care, but hubby is hoping for a girl, since they are more fun to shop for=)

I did join the fertility friend app, and just found it way too confusing. I am going to have another go of reading how it works today, but if I still am overwhelmed, it will be my paper calendar.

Ah yes, agree with Abby! Charting is such a helpful tool. I learned so much about my body and what it was doing, so I knew when something wasn't right. And your doctor will find it helpful as well!

I'm sure there are some abbreviation guides out there that someone could link to, but I'm on my way out the door. So here a few quick ones:

O - ovulation, so DPO is how many days past ovulation you are
CD - cycle day __
BFP - big fat positive (positive pregnancy test)
BFN - big fat negative (negative test)
OPK - ovulation predictor kit
AF - Aunt Flo, or your period
PCOS - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
BD - baby dance, lol

Other people can add to this, I'm sure!


As for preparations, I say just chart and pay attention to your cycle. Hopefully it won't take anything extra for you. But if it wasn't happening right away, at least you will have all of that information to use to help figure out what is going on. Good luck!

Hi Hattie,

I learned alot by reading many boards and articles. I've heard of many things that people do, such as using something called pre-seed, which is a lubricant; herbal things like Maca, which I'm not sure if it truly works; those cups people use for periods- some use to keep sperm in place. I started taking B-6 to help with lengthening my luteal phase because mine was very short. I'm sure there are so many other things that people do. I even heard of some people eating pineapple core after ovulating. Who knows if that works! Sometimes I think alot of it is hope, you know? But definitely try to alleviate stress and continue your way of working out because whatever you are doing before getting pregnant, is pretty much what you can continue afterwards. But as long as you are trying to eliminate medications that can be harmful during pregnancy and taking a prenatal, that is great!

Hi Ladies,

I have about 3 weeks left before the hubby and I go for it. It has been 11 years since my last one, and I was wondering what new preparation things are they suggesting? I am LDS, so I don't drink, or do drugs, and consume VERY limited caffeine.
Just talked to the psych and we have come up with a plan to be off all of my meds by July 5th=)
SO what else am I missing? I have started charting, and we have a name, but that is it.

Please help this old mommy figure this out.

Oh also what do the abbreviations stand for?
