During my off season I still swim and run, just reduce the amount...these are the sports I love, I also ramp up weights or do insanity and zumba for fun! My first Tri is May 5 with a half marathon a month later...my "A" race is not until September...my benchmark race. Rest is a tough one for me and I do suspect just not getting enough rest day to day if factoring in. Thanks for the suggestions!

Make sure you are getting your rest days in as well. Recovery is the 4th discipline of triathlon and it's when all your hard work gets translated into muscle. It's also the time where I get recharged for the next block of training.

I'm probably different than most, but racing keeps me motivated. All the little mistakes I make, anyone that passes me sticks in my mind. When I'm on the trainer in the off-season I remember that guy that passed me on the hill in my last race. It keeps me going and helps me keep an edge to my workouts.

When are your races? I try to do different things in the off season, so that when it's time to train for tri's, I'm excited to get back on my bike or do some more speed work outside. Everyone needs an off season. I stay active, but I do different things. For example, I did some long distance X-country ski races this winter. I never got on a trainer or spin bike. But when the weather finally cooperates, I'll be excited to get on my bike again and ride.
winter should be about building a base and maintenance. Have you given yourself an off season? Look at when your races are, and try to geet on a training plan with your race calendar in mind. And then decide on an "A" race or some goals for the races you have. That should help get you motivated.

This is my second year doing Tri's . I have at least three this year and two half marathons...I am struggling to stay motivated to train...some days I am so ready and some days I can not seem to wrap my head around doing much of anything....how do you stay motivated, focused or disicplined to train?
