Greetings and welcome. ...... It's great that you want to add hiking to your fitness regimen. I suggest that you get a good pair of hiking boots first. If your feet aren't comfortable, you may lose interest in hiking all together. Also, don't bog yourself down in heavy clothing. Pick out a short nature trail in your vicinity. Nature trails provide much more natural scenery and atmosphere. You'll be able to hear nature much better as well. If you like taking photographs, take along a camera, nature trails provide great photo opportunities. Find yourself different trails to hike so you won't get bored with one trail. I live north of Wichita and most lakes in our state have nature trails that are easy to hike and are enjoyable. Always take water and a healthy snack if you're going to be out for a lengthy outing. The more you hike, you'll find your endurance increase and that will lead to longer trails and much more enjoyment. Good luck and happy hiking.

Hi & welcome to the team! emoticon

Whether you're starting to hike, bike or kayak, start with shorter "excursions" and gradually build up to longer / more strenuous distances (avoids overdoing it and getting discouraged) ... And you're idea of finding others in your area to hike, bike or kayak with is a good idea... Odds are they would know the "good" trails and waterways ... If there's a local bike, kayak or sporting goods store they often sponsor group activities or clubs (here in my area we have REI, Bass Pro, Cabellas and Gander Mountain for our "big" sporting goods stores)

By the way, you'll find most of the "Outdoor People" team hanging out on the "Happy Hour on the Deck" thread....hop on over and join the chit chat (you'll find this is a very supportive, fun and sometimes "goofy" group of outdoor enthusiasts)

Choc :-)

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

One important lesson I have learned about hiking and will pass this along to you: always carry duct tape and a flashlight in your backpack! You never know when that trusted hiking boot will separate at the sole or if you run out of daylight!

Hi guys! I'm starting to be an outdoorsy person and want to get into hiking, biking, kayaking, etc...I'm even thinking about trading in my coupe for a 4x4! LOL Anyone in the Wichita area new to any of this or have patience for a newbie?
