I've come to find out that I have been asleep at the wheel for roughly 50 trips around the sun. Counting calories has never really been an issue/concern with me. I'm an active person, outdoor recreation in many forms fills a lot of my spare time. But, what I come to find now is, balance has been lacking.

The past 12 months have been wonderful for me. I have introduced three of my oldest grand children (A.K.A. varmints) to many outdoor activities. Ages 9-12 they are, and three of the most precious things on this earth. In looking at what they eat, and in particular what they like to carry in a back pack, I started getting cold chills.

So, that sparked me(pun intended), to look at my own diet in a much deeper sense than just serving size. The tracker has been an incredible resource. I have personally made some major changes in the past 6 months, and will continue. But, my major goal now is the children's diet. In particular, shelf stable, balanced, light weight, back packing meals is my goal.

I have been using this site for reference for some time, and just now getting started on the message boards. I look forward to my time here. And I especially look forward to sharing the knowledge gained here, with the varmints, out there.

There is no bad food, only bad cooks.
