Wow, that is a busy season! 10 sounds like plenty. :)

For years my ds didn't know when his birthday was--I wasn't having kids over that soon after Christmas. lol

Blissfully, ours is very small this year since we already had it with the In-laws and some of my relatives are out of town this year. Just 10 of us will be there. Plus, since my stepdad and 2 of my kids are restricted on what they can eat due to food allergies, we'll be eating pretty clean. I'm not even buying a full turkey, just a breast and a duck. (I make a killer 5 spice and maple glazed duck. Yummy!) My SD has already requested roasted brussel sprouts and onions so I'll do those and a couple of other sides. I'll make Indian style cranberry chutney (although I'm sure my mom will also bring the junky can kind.

It will be nice to have a low key holiday this year because the whole season from Nov 16 (son's birthday) through the end of January is a mass of birthdays (Nov 16, Dec. 23 and 27, and Jan 28), holiday parties, yule, christmas, kwanzaa, NYE and other insanity.)

That's definitely a unique tradition! :)

My sister will do the cooking: turkey, potatoes and gravy, stuffing, kernel corn, cranberry sauce-jellied, and pumpkin pie.

Later I'll have my sil down and cook a bird myself. Just make it green bean casserole instead of corn, and I'm thinking of making baked sweet potatoes, too.

Just a day of visiting and playing cards here. :) If there's a football game, ds is suddenly crazy about those!

We have a very special family tradition, I believe it goes back 4 or 5 generations. We butcher pigs on Thanksgiving! Yup, dirty and messy and we LOVE it! Even my dh who had NEVER done anything like it before meeting my family. My family are a bunch of farmers and that's a true Thanksgiving, putting meat up for the coming winter. We do have a traditional Turkey that my Aunt and cousins prepare, we it it as we're finishing up in the butcher shop.
