I lost most of the last picking of tomatoes because I was too busy to get them processed. I should have called my DIL and had her give them away to someone for salsa or something, but I kept thinking I would get to them. When I looked at them yesterday, they were mostly mush--how sad....but the worms in the compost bin were happy~

The Siberians are popular on the coast because they only take 65 days to ripen. I wanted to see how they'd do for us--although we're inland and have a much longer growing season. I thought they might just be very early, but they died instead. We have a good variety of tomatoes, though, and I'll probably be canning until the frost~

Sub-ar(c?)tic is the name of the tomatoes. They are about a two inch diameter, with wonderful flavor!

Decided to save working with the green beans til this weekend. I'm using some of the zucchini in a farm stew I found in a crock pot cookbook either tomorrow or the next day.

What's the name of the sub-artic tomatoes? I planted some called Siberians this spring, but they all died~ I don't know why. Son and DIL planted some beefsteaks from seeds and I bought starter plants for the rest. We've got lots of tomatoes, as DIL had planned to sell them to the Mexican restaurants, but they haven't even made a dent in our crop! We undoubtedly went overboard!

We picked green beans again today and it looks like they're slowing down. There are still flowers on the vines and the bees were all over them, but I think we'll be done in another week or two.

I finally got a couple of zucchinis, but we won't have enough to get tired of it this year. probably not enough to freeze, or dehydrate either.

Now that we've got the greenhouse, I think we'll do a lot more from seed next year.

Oh, and my two apple trees are about ready. We picked the McIntosh, but the Fuji isn't quite ready. We don't spray them, so we have to share them with a few worms... I think we'll probably dehydrate the apples like we did the pears. I've still got a lot of applesauce from last year. My family really likes my applebutter, though, so mayble I'd better check to see how much of that we have left.

The shelves in my basement are starting to look like I'm stocking up for Y2K again! LOL

got my first tomatoes. Smaller round ones... I'll have to see what kind they are. A woman from church just gave me a giant bag of green beans. Mine aren't ready yet.

The tomatoes are coming in by the wheelbarrow load! I canned 54 qts. yesterday alone, and already made a huge kettle of spaghetti sauce with meat and canned it. Our zucchini isn't doing well--go figure! Any other time and we'd be sick of it by now. Cucumbers didn't do well, either...don't know why.

The black-eyed peas are pretty much done, and the green beans are slowing down as the days and nights are getting cooler. I think I've got over 30 pints of the peas, and probably 50 qts. of green beans on the shelf. I didn't can any fruit this year, though--at least, not yet. We don't have many fruit trees, but our neighbor has a small orchard, so we're always blessed with her abundance. We may still get some apples, but I think I'll just dehydrate them for nut/fruit mixes in the winter. I usually make jam and fruit butters but we still have a lot from last year, so I skipped it. We didn't even get a chance to pick berries this year~

It's not. We have tried and tried to plant something here in town, but it just seem to work. Oh, how I miss the farm and country I grew up on.

I just put up 10 qts of peppers and my DIL called to say that they've just picked 2 bags of black-eyed peas! Last year I canned my black-eyes, but I think I'll freeze them this year. I think they have better flavor that way.

It won't be long before the green beans are ready to pick. Our first planting is making beans now and our second planting is starting to bloom.

Things are starting to come in. Tomatoes are ripening and will soon be ready to can, dehydrate and sell! We've got tomatillos, chilis and several kinds of peppers, too. My DIL sells to some of our local Mexican restaurants and I do a lot of preserving for winter. We're also getting some black-eyed peas and green beans pretty soon, as well as cucumbers and squash.

Hi - we had our strawberries and they are done now. We have 4 baby blueberry bushes and we should get about 2-3 cups of blueberries in the next month. The tomatoes are green and more blossoms are coming out. Just harvested 2 little zucchini and about 20 wax beans! Going to make some basil pesto tomorrow, and I have 3 butternut squash growing! Tried growing corn - not sure how that is going to turn out! And I am crossing my fingers that I have even 1 Cinderella pumpkin that gives me seeds to try again next year (planted too late, I think). I LOVE gardening and want to grow more next year, and I want to learn how to can, too. Will grow some kale and cabbage this fall. Can I plant lettuce for fall, too?

I have lots of tomato blossoms out there, and my zucchini has blossoms, too. Wonder where the rabbits are this year; no one bothered my beans and peas that didn't have a fence right away... It will be a while before I can eat any vegetables. We have had strawberries and raspberries!
