Dad said Grandma had to scoop a couple inches of dirt off the inside window sill every day. He also talked about her cooking three meals a day over a wood stove for 15 harvest hands in 100 degree weather. While they were eating, she used a dishrag to shoo the flies away from the food.

Much hardier folk than me. I have been a pansy about our long winter, and I only had to turn up the thermostat.

I live about 25 miles from Jennings, about 37 S of Oberlin. I just read a book about dust bowl era in SW kansas, OK & TX panhandles. I wish my grandparents had talked about those times. I have seen a couple of good dust storms in the last couple years.

Hi and welcome!

Don't be content with average. Average is as close to the bottom as it is to the top.

Welcome to both of you. I grew up in town, but we had a small tree farm and a small horse farm about 15-20 minutes from our house. I grew up listening to Kansas and North Dakota farm stories and I miss them. So here I am.

My Dad's family was from Oberlin and Jennings Kansas. Dad always said the dust bowl blew them all the way to Oregon. We still had relatives living in Jennings up through the 1970-80's. I can't remember when the last of them moved west.

Vballrock, do you live anywhere near Jennings?

I also have a friend that lives in Formoso. That is north/middle Kansas.

I never raised cattle, but I did place first in a judging contest in 4-H as a kid, but that was only because I paid attention to the instructions.

I would love to see cattle pictures on both your spark pages.

Have a great day.

I'd like to join this team also. My husband and I farm corn, wheat, soybeans and have a commercial cow herd in NW KS.

Hi. Thought I'd check out your team and see what's up. I live in the country, own and raise cattle. Garden (both veggie & flower) and stay extremely busy. Looking forward to getting to know each of you.
