Cheesecake and Fries! At the same time? Lol
I always knew americans ate funny stuff. Seriously though, I can relate. I miss not being able to eat anything at all without consequences.
My craving is strawberry cream tarts. Not good for a diabetic to snack on.
Lots of luck to you all with your targets. emoticon

I had fries tonight. I made them with canola oil but still they are fattening. I did not eat very many just a handful and I liked them. You don't have to give it all up you just need to avoid your target foods (for me oreos, I cannot eat just 1 or 2 or 5 or...). I can handle a lot of other treats though and once in awhile I do treat myself. We need to learn to live in this world and manage the food around us. So do have a small treat, just keep it very tiny and very seldom.

I keep bags of little dark chocolates, like the little dove squares or hersey kisses. I eat just one, that I can manage. I also buy little pints of Ben and Jerry's ice cream for a special once a month treat, I can have a very small scoop, my family eats the rest and it is gone. I buy fudgesicles and popsicles. Skinny cow ice cream is great and I can manage to just eat 1/2 of an ice cream sandwich at a time. It is just learning how to handle it.

First of all, welcome!

I don't deprive myself of anything - I just limit severely the things that I know will trip me up.

French fries are absolutely one of my worst downfalls! Love the salt and drive-thrus are easy. I never make them at home. To stop the drive-thru-fry addiction, I started keeping fat-free pretzels and cashews in my car in snack-size portions. That way I could have the salt and take the edge off if I was starving or snacky on my way home. There's no good reason to go through a drive-thru when you already have something available right there that's better for you and satisfies the same craving.

Sweets can't be in the house - so they're special treats when I go out - AND I have to have already worked out that day to the tune of a calorie burn that = what I'm supposed to do anyway + what I'm about to eat. Same thing with alcohol.

It's all a compromise. You can still work these things into your food plan if you want them, just remember that the key-word is PLAN. Maybe rather than a burger and fries for lunch, you do a salad with fat-free dressing and fries, then plan a dinner that is healthier also or plan a workout that makes up the difference between where you should be and where you are.

i suggest checking out the spark recipes for lower cal/fat versions of the things you like!
have you tried sweet potato fries? they are yummy!! basically you slice up a sweet potato, spray with some cooking spray and bake them till they are cooked. they are a great alternative. there is also a great "cheesecake" recipe with sugar free jello and low fat cream cheese and yogurt. its delicious!!!
don't deprive yourself too much, or else you will end up overindulging.
good luck!

I have been practicing portion control and have been doing so well at it. The only problem is cheescake and fries. Those are two things I have found so hard to practice portion control with. Now I have blocked them out and it is so true when you deprive yourself of something you want it more. ughhhhh.
