Hello All! I'm new to distance running, though I enjoy walking and plan on using the C25k approach to get started :D

Hi Scoutharps, first I want to say welcome to Couch to 5K group. I think that you are going to do well and that if you stick to program and take it easy it will help prevent injury. Good luck and school and I hope you get into nursing school because as a CNA you already do most of the work now.

I am no expert but I would think you will get your weight bearing exercise from the weight training.

I go by scoutharps on the web. Last November I reinvented myself, again. This time around, I am a CNA (nurse tech is what most people call us) which meant a whole new life style. Mostly that meant walking well over 6 miles a day, just in the halls of the long term care facility I work at, lifting a bunch of weight, in the form of bodies that may or may not do what the owners of said bodies want them to do, and coping with an 80% income reduction over the last few years. But, I am back in school, hope to be in the LPN program in September, and along the way decided this was an ideal time to finally get rid of about half of me on the way.

Som between eating better (mostly less), my miles at work, and in the last few months the employee gym, I am getting there. I have lost 42 out of 107 pounds. I've put in lots of miles on the elliptical, and my DD has me on a sensible wt training program. But I'm concerned on 2 points--is the elliptical going to provide enough wt bearing for my bone health, and the fact that my body is getting pretty used to it, even though I keep the intensity high, and do some intervals. I used to run, pre pregnancy, and was even starting to train for my first half marathon. Then I messed up an ankle, and when it healed, I was pregnant, and then i had a child care issue!

So, when I get off work, there is no one in the gym but me, and there is a well lit loop of road that goes back there. I'm just starting, but this is going to work.

Scars tell us where we have been. They don't dictate where we are going.
