I deal with the weather by running on a treadmill emoticon

That means getting up a half hour earlier, and eating a quick snack rather than linger over a too-big breakfast with the morning paper. Morning running just makes the whole day better.

For me, it's worth it. I've got to admit, we had a string of 65 degree mornings last week that made me want to run outside. I've gotta get my HRM fixed so I can.

I'm not trying to be faster than you. I'm trying to be better than me.

Thank you so much to everyone for all the good wishes! I don't think I'll be able to keep this up without you all! How can getting in shape be psychologically harder than losing weight?

Yesterday was my first interval day, and today it rained like cats and dogs! How does everyone else deal with the weather? I chose a cardio DVD that I admit had me laying on the floor at one point asking "how am I supposed to do THAT that many times?" Considering getting up to go to the park before work tomorrow, since it's supposed to push 90 by the evening.

Congrats on your progress already! Amazing!!! And welcome to the team and to running...you are right - you don't have to run 15 miles a day but the rewards you will reap from running 2-3x are fantastic! You will get a lot out of it and prove a lot to yourself in the process. :-)Best wishes!

Yes, but so can a pretty good first date :-)

Congratulations on seeing fitness as a lifestyle, not a number on the scale. As awesome as your weight loss was, I hope getting fit makes you even happier with yourself.

Best wishes -

it sounds to me like that guy did YOU a major favor by taking you to a CRAPPY ASS DATE.

It takes some women years to learn what you did in one single date. Instead of you sulking and internalizing the situation you looked at it for what it was. You should be proud of yourself.

You did well emoticon

Awesome! Its great that you were able to take something away from the date :)

What an awesome story and a great way to turn a crappy date into a positive step for your life! Thanks for sharing. I am only on day2 of the C25K program, and I feel better about running already. I know it will get harder, but I like what you said. "I am worth more than I make myself out to be." That will be my new positive affirmation chant when the going gets tough. Thanks for sharing!

The title of your topic...well, obviously the answer is "yes, it can"...and you have done just that! It's amazing to me at how one's whole perspective can change and how we can glean things from every area of life. Good for you - the date wasn't a total loss, now was it?

I went on a terrible first date two days ago. Well, a terrible first, first date since that was my first date ever, at the age of 23. With a guy who is a client at the veterinary clinic where I work, and we had been ogling each other for about four months now. He finally asked me out, and I was ecstatic. Right until about five minutes into the date, when I think we both started to wonder why precisely we thought this was a good idea.

I met up with him for a picnic, and finally LOOKED at the guy. I realized he is thin as a rail and his main passion in life is running. MARATHON RUNNING. Running in the rain and the snow and in groups and during hikes and every day of the week. Now, I've been at this weight loss thing for a year and two months, and have gone from 184 to 126 lbs in that time period-- major success! But I wanted to smack this guy in the head for asking me out. Hadn't he seen facebook pictures of me when I was a size 16? What was he thinking we'd have in common?? His passion for running is not the reason the date went poorly (he was incapable of asking me questions about myself, only answering ones I asked him and then staring blankly at me), but it did make me re-evaluate how I'm approaching weight loss and fitness.

I lost all that weight by eating right and walking. I usually walk around the park for two laps 4 or 5 times a week, but I have avoided any more strenuous exercise since high school when I was last in a normal weight range. I just feel strange doing it, like people are going to stop and stare. But somehow this date, stuck at a picnic bench talking about running and the weather for an hour and a half, I realized that I should expect more of myself. I don't need to run 15 miles a day like this guy does. But I am perfectly capable of learning to run 2 or 3 miles a few times a week, and giving myself something to be proud of.

I think I have been floundering since I started getting close to my weight loss goal, and I need a new goal: fitness. I need to learn how to make use of this new body I have. I am worth more than I make myself out to be. I can have dedication to something new. And next time I see this guy at the clinic, I fully intend on saying thank you.
