I am new to the team...live in St. Louis region-lots of great local trails...when very young, hiked on the Pacific Coast Trail-had to cut it short as passes had 3-5 feet of snow in June!
Looking forward to getting back on our trails-been sidelined with injuries/illness this last year-just love getting back to nature...will post pics/blogs when I do! emoticon

Finally got back out on the trail this morning; just a short 2-mile urban desert trail with some very mild elevation and a bit of messy rocky stuff, but mostly a pretty easy hike (the DH did it in sneakers, so...). We took it easy and made the round trip in about an hour.
Just glad to be back out there, and looking forward to much more!

TIFFFIT,

So are you able to get any Fall/entering Winter Hikes in... Sorry so late in sending out the emoticon to the team.

LINDAKAY--I know what you mean! We lived in Dallas for a short while in the mid-90's (years, not temps LOL) and I grew up near Virginia Beach. Hot and humid, both places. Yuck.
Thankfully we've been spared the flooding in our neighborhood here in Phoenix but like always, we get a year's worth of rain in a week's worth of days. It's truly the wild, wild west!

AMARILYNH--I have only Googled the Havasupai Falls hike but a business associate recently hiked it with his wife and school-aged son and absolutely RAVED about it. The falls and pools would appear to be breathtaking but I want to be sure I can enjoy them, thus the multi-day plan. On the one hand I want to go alone (well, just our family) so that I can absolutely pace myself but on the other hand it would be nice to have a legitimate guide. I don't know yet which way we'll go when the time comes. :-)

Welcome to the team! Great hiking goal, a few members of the team have hiked that (or want to hike it) so I'm pretty sure there is a thread regarding that one.

congrats on the 40 pounds lost too! Bet you feel great! emoticon

congratulations on the weight you've lost! I think you'll have no problem reaching your weight goal and the hiking goal! I'm with you and can't wait for reasonable temps! I live in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex (Arlington) and it's been around 100 and high humidity. I can't hike in that type of weather. My daughter lived in Mesa at one time and I made several visit there before she moved back to New Mexico. The winter was so nice but I was there for the 4th of July when it was 118! I heard on the news there was a ton of flooding over there due to heavy rains. Hope where you are it's okay. Welcome to the team!

Please tell us more about the Havasupai Falls experience! My DH and I really wanted to do the hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, staying overnight at Phantom Ranch, but we were unable to get reservations. I'm wondering if this might be a good alternative?

I discovered hiking this spring, right before our Phoenix temps hit permanent triple digits. I CAN'T WAIT for the thermometer to get back down to something reasonable (for me) to get back on the trails.
My bucket list includes a hike down to Havasupai Falls and back out (looking at a two or more day trip so that we can spend the night(s) at the "hotel" at the bottom and recover a bit). I am hoping to be ready by next fall (2015) if we can get reservations.
I'd love to chat with other newbie hikers who are also on a weight loss journey. My goal is to lose 100 pounds; I'm just over 40 pounds down right now.
Glad to be here!
