Connie, I hope you are still reading this thread because I want to thank you for introducing us to Canyon Climbers Club. We joined (along with our grandsons ages 8 & 11) and have hiked Amicalola and Tallulah Falls. Actually we hiked Providence Canyon last year but we need to go back to get our card punched. So the only one we are missing is Cloudlands and we hope to get there soon.

Have you ever done any hiking in the central part of the state? We've discovered that FDRoosevelt State Park has some great trails! We've hiked the 6.9 mile Long Leaf Loop twice now and plan to do more trails there. Its only about 30 miles from us which is great - we love the North Georgia area but its a long drive.

Hi, Marilyn. Georgia state parks offers all kinds of hiking adventures. Yesterday we hiked from the top of lookout Mtn to the bottom into the canyon, the hike out of the gulch along a cascading stream with several waterfalls. A must-see for any hiker. But beware, its was strenuous but if I can do it, I am sure you will have no problem.

Connie, I'm from Georgia too, but further south than you, down near LaGrange. I am just getting into hiking and am interested in the Canyon Climbers you mentioned. I think I'll google it. So far we've done our hiking in the national parks out west, but I want to find some hiking closer to home!!

Kayotic - thanks for the welcome. There are lots of trails within a day's journey that are still on my list to hike, so this will give me an excuse to get out there and checkmark them off my list!

Motivated@Last - If you ever get a chance to cave hike, go for it! It's like hiking at night.

Cave hiking? Sounds cool!!

I live in the foothills of the Appalachians, so the hiking is great here! We are members of the Canyon Climbers of the Georgia State Parks, and are currently working on getting all those trails hiked so we can get the tee shirt saying we did it!! We have also hiked trails in many national parks including Yellowstone, Sequoia, Grand Tetons, Yosemite, Zion, Mesa Verde, Petrified Forest and Painted Desert, and look forward to doing them again if travels permit. But our favorites are Great Smoky Mountains and Mammoth Cave, both just a few hours away. Has anyone ever hiked in a cave? One trail at Mammoth Cave was 4 miles ... all underground but so worth it! If someone tells me to "go take a hike" - I just smile!
