Definitely take time to acclimatize. There is a little book by The Mountaineers about altitude sickness you may want to check out. I got it at REI, and found it to be a helpful resource.

Have fun! Sounds like a great trip!

Yeah, we'll be flying into Lukla from Kathmandu, so we thought about staying there a couple of days. We're also going to include a few extra days in our trip for acclimatization time.

Nepal? Awesome.

I've never been there, but I have experienced the effects of altitude in Peru. My advice would be to take things very gradually. Although Kathmandu is only 4600 feet, take a day or two to get acclimated, rather than beginning trekking the day you arrive.

Hello all,
My name is Emily, I'm 25, and live in Tennessee. My husband and I love to be outdoors and try to complete a day hike at least once or twice a month. We have lots of good trails here in the Nashville area, and actually, we've just started section hiking the AT. We have big plans in store for next year...we're going trekking in Nepal! I'm so excited, but know that I have to lose weight and get serious about my cardio routine/leg exercises if I'm ever going to make it. I'm also really concerned about altitude sickness because I've never been above about 6,500 ft. Has anyone ever experienced altitude sickness or been to Nepal? Or have any tips for hiking and weight loss? Can't wait to hear your suggestions!
Emily
