I may be late responding but I've moved to the Houston area 4x over my career and I think Katy is the best. I've lived in the Woodlands 2x, Magnolia which is just north and west of the Woodlands and now Katy.
Great school system, competitive sports, family atmosphere, lots to do and great places to eat. The woodlands is a great place don't get me wrong.....but its like baskin robbins with only vanilla ice cream. Katy has a rich group of people, ethnicity, from businessmen to ranchers, etc. I didn't think I would like it as much as the Woodlands but I admit (wouldn't let the wife know) that she was right ......better place for the family! Hope this helps.

That sounds about right. When we've shopped real estate online (with property) online, and then mapped it to the trainyards, it was quite a ways away. I guess I'm just going to have to schedule a visit to see what's up!

Of course there are rural areas here. But the commute to those places, I believe, would be pretty long. I don't talk miles but it would be a minimum of an hour drive. That's if the traffic is flowing. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Kimbie! Thanks for the information about Katy! We are kind of hoping to find some rural property where we could possibly keep a horse or two. Are there places like that around Katy?

The BNSF yards that we are interested in are in Alvin, Pearland, and Spring. I wonder how the commute is from Katy?

I love Katy! It's rapidly growing becoming an engineering and medical area...among other fields too of course. Numerous parks in the area. Great communities (subdivisions). I've lived here for 13 years after 13 years in west Houston. I'm from Michigan originally but moved here with my son when I was 23. Okay...I just told how old I am. But...it was the best move I ever made! I hope to meet you one day in the future!

Hello there! I currently live in Central California and hope to relocate the family to the Houston area. I hear Katy is a great place to live! I'm always on a fitness/weight loss trek, and thought it would be nice to build some relationships for the future. Moving is still a few years off, but I'm hoping to get an insiders view of the area and activities available for myself and my family. My husband works for BNSF Railway and he hopes to transfer to the area. I believe there are 3-4 trainyards in Houston, and we're considering Katy as a good place to live and commute from.

Thanks!
